will this product work to connect 2 hd tv's to watch the same channel on both tv's?

I bought this splitter to take HDMI output from my laptop (Aereo HD TV stream, etc) and split between the signal between the living room TV and the bar TV. It works great with no issues. I had originally thought I would use 2 Chromecast devices, but they only allow streaming to a single device. I then tried one HDMI and one Chromecast, but the Chromecast buffers and lags. Also the sound is cast to the Chromecast which left my main TV with no sound. So this seemed the logical next step and it is a simple device that works without a hitch. Basically this will split any source that puts out an HDMI signal (DVD player, laptop, etc). Keep in mind you will need three total HDMI cables, one to the input and one to each TV. (kind of obvious I know, but thought I'd point out) Also this does have a power pack so it needs to be near a power strip.

how far can you run the hdmi cable before the video gets bad?

I have one 3 footer and one 50 footer. Can't tell the difference. Try not go over 75 though

Will this support 2 non-identical devices? What I have is a sound bar and a TV. The sound bar will only accept an HDMI input and will not pass the picture so I need to split the HDMI source to feed both the sound bar and the TV.

This is a video only splitter. Meaning that if you were to attempt to split the HDMI source you will get two pictures and no audio. To answer your question ,yes you can use 2 non identical devices. But for what your doing your going to have to invest into a different product to get audio and video.
