1 out of 5 eggsNice when it works, but that's not always

Pros: With devices it "likes" it works fine. It's liked a variety of PATA optical drives and, up until yesterday, a couple of PATA HDs I'd had occasiona to use it with.

Cons: IME it either likes a PATA HD or else it "hangs". Symptoms I saw included long delays in the BIOS up to inability to load the boot loader or OS image. If the OS loaded, the drive might or might not be visible; if visible, it was inaccesible. And yeah, I know all about needing to strap the drive to be the IDE master; they were.

tl;dr: the adapter can fail for no visible reason.

Other Thoughts: Yesterday I began to understand the poor reviews it sometimes gets. I was wiping some drives, a mixed lot, and the machine I had handy had only SATA 6Gb ports. The adapter worked with a 40G Seagate and the 120G WD drives, while failing with the 120G Seagate and an old 3G WD. Didn't torture myself with the others, swapped machines for one with real PATA at that point.

I'd give it zero stars if i could - an adapter that works when it "feels like it" isn't worth buying.

2 out of 5 eggsuseless as supplied

Pros: Can't use it as-is so I don't know of any pros.

Cons: Does not come with a sata power cable, only the standard atx 4-pin connector. Out of the box you can't do anything with it. You need to find and buy a molex/sata converter cable and make sure you get the male/female ends right. If you're selling an adapter product, you'd think the kit would come complete with everything you need. There are competing products for the same money that come with the right power connectors. Can't use it unless you spend more money and too expensive to return. Frustrating.

5 out of 5 eggsJust perfect

Pros: Just perfect. Extremely compact. Fits well into it's place. just popped it in, connected the power and added a SATA cable and presto. PC recognized immediately my model 2000 TDK CD RW which still works. No problems of any kind. Very pleased.

Cons: Not really

Other Thoughts: It is lacking the middle connector tongue, to prevent installing it in the improper way. However this doesn't impair functionality. You cannot install this connector incorrectly without bending the pins... Fits very well into place, no force needed.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to hook up. Doesn't take up too much space behind the drive

Cons: Sometimes fails to detect the drive. Had to connect and disconnect with a few restarts to get it to read the drive. Finally got all of the data off my old IDE drives and move it over to larger capacity SATA drives

5 out of 5 eggsgreat

Pros: literally does what its supposed to do.
allows new am2 am3 and fm2 boaurds to use pata drives.

works on everything from the ancient wdcaviar 33200 up to the late pata era ata133 raptors.

Cons: none just be sure to set the drive jumper to master

Other Thoughts: was able to pull all the data off my old 486's wd33200 and copy it onto my 1tb hdd in my a6-5400k without any real issues, though I was a bit surprised when I powered on and winME booted right up and started detecting hardware (which it obviously had no drivers for)
turns out I had this in sata port 1 and my 1tb drive in sata 6 so upon seeing a drive attached to sata1 my mobo booted it instead of my win7 drive.
clicked restart winME shut down without a hitch, entered bios and set boot order to tell it to boot sata6 first. save and exit, and it booted normally. win7 came up without a hitch. entered my computer, wd caviar 33200 showed up as local disk D: accessed fine, and copied data to my win7 drive.
transfer was a whopping 21mbps which for an old ata33 drive is quite an accomplishment. Nice job rosewill.

4 out of 5 eggsRosewill RC-204 IDE to SATA Mini Vertical Bridge (for IDE device)

Pros: Works! Cheap. Quick Install. Came with cables.

Cons: Connector to hardrive is not terribly snug, easy to knock off if you don;t watch what you're doing while inside the PC case.

Other Thoughts: Works as advertised. Allowed me to use a WD IDE harddrive for an old ASUS P5AD2-E motherboard which prefers SATA as it's boot drives (I was already familiar with changing the BIOS settings, so it booted without a hitch on the first try). No lag when accessing the drive that I can see. On sale w/ free shipping = happy customer.

2 out of 5 eggsDecent little device when it works.

Pros: When it actually works, its a cool little device.

Cons: Had problems getting this to actually work, I dunno if I was doing anything wrong. Read the manual, installed everything correctly, and still didn't work.

Other Thoughts: Seemed like it was kinda hit or miss on when it would work.

4 out of 5 eggsyah it works

Pros: Kudos to the guy below who suggested that you check your bios sata drive settings - worked a charm. Also, kept getting BSOD when trying to install XP from ide rom to ide drive, switched the rom cable to the last of 4 sata ports - ASUS F2A85-M PRO FM2 mobo has ports 5,6 & 7 under a different drive in bios that goes away when you set 1st 4 ports to IDE.

Cons: No language at all in box or site about setting bios to IDE - doh !
1 egg off for that.

Other Thoughts: working right now as intended ... couldn't figure out the language about rom drive not working, take jumper off and put it to NC, but there is a jumper on the card, the pins below it are labelled LED.
