4 out of 5 eggsDoes what I need it to do

Pros: Works

Cons: Uses 4 pin connector for power instead of the standard sata power connector

1 out of 5 eggsTime and Money Waster

Pros: Compact, sleek, comes with additional wires

Cons: Through 6 hours of troubleshooting, multiple wire switches, and internet searches, this adapter will not work. I've followed the instructions to the letter (ensuring the devices are on master, plugs are secure, ect, ect) and I cannot get BIOS/my mother board to recognize the device it's hooked up to. Ive tried both a 120GB HDD and a CD/DVD drive, but failed. I'm extremely disappointed in my purchase and would not recommend this product to anyone. I will not be buying from Vantec anymore as I cannot trust their products.

Other Thoughts: Search elsewhere if you want a proper IDE to SATA adapter. I would recommend a IDE to USB adapter. This one is flawed.

5 out of 5 eggsVantec

Pros: Allowed me to use my old ide drive instead of buying new sata.

Cons: Its a little hit and miss. Sometimes it works beautifully with no problems, other times i find myself wiggling the adapter before it will even recognize my optical drive or read/write a disc. Not to big deal for me either way as i don't use the disc drive often.

Other Thoughts: Other than it malfunctioning from time to time it is still a handy device and it worked for what i needed so no docked eggs.

1 out of 5 eggsMine didn't work

Pros: If it worked it would be a perfect product since it really doesn't take up too much room at all on the back of optical drives. Its compact, sleek and feels easier to plug in than the IDE cables themselves..

Cons: UEFI did not detect my DVD drive using this IDE to SATA adapter. I tried multiple SATA ports and a identical drive I have mounted in the same computer ....didn't work.

Other Thoughts: I've bought Vantec products before and figured I wouldnt have a problem with such a small part. I was wrong ...it is the only thing in my latest PC build that is DOA .......which unfortunately prevents me from installing windows since I don't have a Windows 7 or 8.1 .iso to put on a USB drive to boot from.

Guess I'm gonna have to either buy another adapter or buy a SATA DVD drive....

5 out of 5 eggsOld HDD saver

Pros: I didn't track the transfer rate of this, but it does upload / downloads my files very quickly. Its a great product to get files off of old hard drives.

Cons: The only downside to this is its size.

Other Thoughts: My case isnt very big, so i had to move my HDD's around to get things to work. Not a problem if you have a large case. Its nothing against the product, but if you have a small case, my might want to measure to be sure if you have enough room.

3 out of 5 eggsIt works, kind of.

Pros: This product was very easy to install and it recognizes all of my IDE drives just fine. But.......

Cons: The transfer speeds are extremely slow. I am averaging between 1-3 MB/s. Can take hours to copy over gigabytes worth of data. If you need to access large files and copy them to the another drive, this product might not be for you.

2 out of 5 eggsYour mileage may vary

Pros: Like other users, I bought this to reuse an IDE optical drive in a new all-SATA system I built. The new system uses a B85 motherboard with AHCI BIOS. The form factor of this device is better than alternatives - you don't risk breaking anything by inadvertently pulling a drive out of the system with this attached.

Cons: Even after taking pains regarding drive jumpering and making sure of the connections, this unit recognized the optical drive only intermittently with the BIOS in IDE mode, and rarely (and unreliably) in AHCI mode. Therefore of no practical use to me. Like the title says, your mileage may vary. The problems may relate to specific hardware/BIOSes.

Other Thoughts: I ended up buying a SATA drive. This item costs too little, and shipping too much, for it to be worthwhile returning. A particular disappointment because earlier Vantec purchases worked out well, raising expectations.

4 out of 5 eggsTakes time to figure out

Pros: Does what it's made for once you install it properly

Cons: No way to troubleshoot... Have no idea if it works when plugged in.

Other Thoughts: Make sure to set jumpers on your IDE to master. Make connection to mobo your last step and try reconnecting several times.. Newer mobos won't find older drive right away..
