Is this cable riser rated (CMR)?

I do believe that the cable is riser rated. I believe that is why I bought it. I did some quick research prior to answering u and what I found is that it is riser rated.

is it shielded?  is there an esd?  how is the shield?  foil and braid?  why would I buy this without knowing?   surely not for the price.  I can find cables for half that.

CAT6 isn't shielded that's not part of the specification, CAT6 is 4 twisted pair separated, with each pair separated by an insulator

What is the difference between this and the Orange colored cable that is also for sale on newegg? This one gets great reviews but the orange cable does not.

I don't know of the orange cable personally, and have not looked into the specs. I really like this black cable because it has a plastic core which keeps the individual twisted pairs very consistent. This is important for very long runs. It also serves the purpose of giving the wire great strength. I also like it because it is very easy to work with when terminating the ends. I work for a chain of convieniance stores installing and maintaining the network and security functions. I can not stress enough the importance not to go cheap with your wiring. There is a lot of labor involved with running wires, and if you use good quality the extra cost pays for itself in the long run by preventing the need to rerun a wire.
I hope this helps, and if the only differance in the specs between the two is its color, then that is just preference. One tip I can give is compare the weight of wire by length... And always go heavier.
