5 out of 5 eggsWorks for it's purpose

Pros: I purchased these for a client and then one for myself. It works well and reliable but ONLY for 2.5" drives!!! (it won't power up a 3.5" drive). I didn't realize that at first and it was easy to overlook. It does work good with the smaller drives however.

Cons: I wish it worked with 3.5" drives!

5 out of 5 eggsawesome cable connection.

Pros: love this cable, works great, I was using old usb 2 external cases for 2.5 sata hard drives, and for ssd also...

works faster and better.

but of course it will not work on large 3.2 hard drives due to power issues...

Cons: none for me...

Other Thoughts: everyone should have one..

5 out of 5 eggsStarTech USB32SAT3CB ADAPTER CABLE

Pros: Inexpensive compared to alternative adapters.
Simple, plug and go. Works fine.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Samsung Evo software unable to recognize drive connected through this as Samsung's own brand but did see it as a hard drive. Samsung software also failed to migrate operating system to 850 SSD drive. Had to go the slow way and install from recovery media and go through a million updates to W7. Not fun.

5 out of 5 eggssolid & reliable plus simplicity

Pros: Connects SSDs and 2.5" SATA HDDs to USB 3.0 ports and provides enough power to run those devices at full USB 3.0 specification.

Holie wow (since "holie" spelled with a "y" is considered an obscene word by the newegg censorbot) is this convenient and reliable! FLAWLESS VICTORY! Every. Time.

Actually is MORE reliable than three other USB 3 2.5" external enclosures I own from three different manufacturers.

I've connected over a dozen SSDs to various systems and It. Just. Werks. Every time. USB 2 ports provide plenty of power for SSDs (of course, data transfers are slower by spec).

Most times I can attach 2.5" notebook HDDs and they run just fine on USB 2 ports. Of particular note, the rather power-hungry (for a 2.5" HDD) Western Digital Black Scorpio 7200 rpm 750 GB HDDs connect & run just fine on USB 2 ports. I still try to use powered USB hubs when possible, just for safety & data integrity, but they don't appear required in MANY cases.

However, I have had occasional issues with other 2.5" HDDs, just minor interruptions. Normal quirks of running mechanical HDDs over USB 2. USB 3 has never been a problem, powered or unpowered ports.

Cable is "long enough" and "substantial" ... SEE Cons, too.

Cons: It is not an external enclosure. This doesn't really matter with SSDs, but for 2.5" notebook drives this can be an issue for anything other than a quick, temporary solution. Of course, no eggs off because this is an obvious feature that is clearly described.

Cable sometimes isn't long enough. Depends on your situation. For me this is rare and minor inconvenience.

On that same note, the "substantial" cable that delivers all that power & data throughput might be considered a bit stiff in some uses. Doesn't bother me: I'd rather have the power & data integrity.

Other Thoughts: I have since found another model adapter like this one, but with a detachable cable (by IOCREST). This is an even more ideal solution since I happen to also have 1 meter USB cables for those rare times when this 18" cable isn't long enough. If, for some reason, I had the need, I can even get 3 meter cables. The IOCREST has a thinner cable, slightly more flexible, but I have not noticed a performance difference between these. I highly recommend both ... which ever you can get on special (I paid $10 for each of these and am exceptionally happy with these products for that price).

Having two of these on hand has also been fantastic. Allows me to multitask on several systems while data flies over the USB 3 ports.

I've pushed drive images of over 300 GB across these cables & never had an issue.

I never use my external enclosures anymore. It's too frustrating to swap drives around them, plus all three of my enclosures have barfed on various data transfers under different circumstances, so I don't consider them as reliable.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome

Pros: Wow. Plug your SSD and so fast. So much better than a jump drive. I use with my old 830 and works at 100MB/s

Cons: Not enough power for a 3.5 Hdd. But there are better options for that anyway.

Other Thoughts: Cable is very steady. I love this

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works just as advertised, allowed me to simply hookup to my laptop, make a backup of my installed SSD and replace it with the copy. Works for hard drives too, just have to be careful and work on a static free area!

Cons: None, was simply plug and play.

5 out of 5 eggsVery happy

Pros: USB 3.0, Heavy Cable, Solid feel, End connectors are solid hard rubber NOT 2 plastic pieces stuck together like some I have seen (that break the first time you drop it). Fast!!! Able to transfer at HDD's max speed (NOT an SSD). No more driver update than a Jump drive upon 1st plug in!!! (Win7 Pro, Win8.1 home and Win10) Works with USB2 but you will take a MAJOR speed hit!!! Shipping was QUICK!! As expected came in a bubble envelope, Packaged inside a heavy duty zip-lock bag (with manufacturers logo imposed on it- trivial but to me good packaging shows a company takes pride in their products) with manual ( which I don't think you will need and was well done if you do)

Cons: Cable may be short for some. Total length is about 20inches. Not a problem for me. Pro if you are using it for a portable solution!! NOTE: It does NOT work with full size drives (HDD or CD/DVD) USB3.0 does not provide enough power to run these. FYI: Drive in constant spin up when plugged in so I do not keep it plugged in unless it is in use. Drive spin is the only real con for me as it could contribute to drive damage/wear.

Other Thoughts: Wish I had a good HDD case to protect my drive. Very happy with this adapter. Does everything it should. Easy to use. Plug SATA end into drive, Plug USB to computer. (first run only, quick driver install) Click "My computer" and there was my external laptop drive, ready to go!! Windows even knew it was a removable HDD and not a Flash/Jump drive.
