5 out of 5 eggsstill running...!

Pros: nice small low power CPU/board combo.

Cons: wudda been nice to have a second PCI slot.

Other Thoughts: This baby was my network router/firewall box for 5 years. Ran Fedora Linux. I put an DEC21042 network adapter in the PCI slot. Along with 2 SATA drives, an 80GB and a terabyte unit for logs.

2 out of 5 eggsThe 40mm VGA cooler fan is too loud

Pros: Good motherboard. No need for drivers with Windows 7. Linux automatically detected all the hardware too. Windows XP needed drivers, but intel supplied a CD that had all of them. The drivers were easy to install. Good price for a small form factor board. Dual core CPU with Hyperthreading. The CPU runs cool without a fan. Supports Windows 7. Windows user experience of 2.8 with 2gb of RAM. Supports both 32 and 64 bit.

Cons: The 40mm VGA cooler fan is too loud. This fan is even louder than my power supply fan. I replaced it once but now it's getting louder again. It's almost impossible to find a replacement heat sink with no fan that fits. Only 1.6 ghz. Only 2gb DDR2 533 RAM max. Only 2 SATA ports. VGA only, no DVI or HDMI.

Other Thoughts: Now I'm looking for a replacement board with NO FAN!!!

4 out of 5 eggsgood board

Pros: Cheap, small pretty powerful all things considered

Cons: Only native Vista Home premium drivers allow for dual displays
Intel drivers stink on this unit unless you sign up for the developers and make your own - I'm not quite that good

Other Thoughts: To Johnthedj you will need Vista Home premium oem to use extended desktop on this unit for video or karaoke output through S-Video.
Hope this helps

1 out of 5 eggsBoard and support s*ck

Pros: Using this for car computer. Good bang for buck, S3 sleep mode.

Cons: 1. Three of the drivers that came with the board would not load.
2. Changing the boot order in the BIOS had no effect.
3. You can only enter the BIOS by changing a jumper. Not a problem when you are building a system, but a pain in the butte when the computer is embedded in the dashboard of a car.
4. During POST Error message comes up saying "The firmware has determined that the system time/date has not been set." After setting the time and this message came up twice I figured the battery was dead and not keeping the time. The battery was replaced with a new one and the error still comes up. The computer can be still be booted by pressing the "Enter" key, but once again, there is no keyboard in my application, just a touch screen which needs to get beyond this point to function, not to mention how annoying it is to have to wait around to press enter every time you boot.
5.To combat the problem, I figured I'd download the latest BIOS. Intel's page was down.

Other Thoughts: 6. Tried to email them about it, but they seem to only deal with support through a phone call (Mon-Fri only) or their chat support which was also not available on the weekend. It said to fill in some info and they would get back to me, but one of the required fields is "Channel ID." What is channel ID?
7. Every time I tried to download something or use an automated help feature on their website, it wasn't working, in either Mozilla or IE.

So I'm left in the dark until Mon-Fri, when, imagine, that, I work.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: First i will say that i am very satisfied. Currently running a 2Tb Windows Home Server machine. Runs quickly enough to backup all the PC in my home (3), run as a uTorrent Server, allows logmein remote control while doing everything else, serves up HD files across the network to my Media center machine, saves all of my recorded tv, organizes my Tv shows using Tvrename etc.. Basically i have a lot going on with this machine, and it never skips a beat.

Purchased with the 2Gb super low profile memory and it runs well. Also, I would not have purchased this if it didnt have the Gigabit network port. That was a must.

Cons: There are a few things i wish it did better, none of which related to speed. I wish that it had more than 2 SATA ports since this is a server. Also, apparently atoms get very hot. but this is normal from what i read so, meh. And why does it have a PCI slot? I would prefer a pci-x 1x slot, but that is just preference.

Other Thoughts: Great little board, runs super well as my home server and does everything i can throw at it. Will have to figure out an inexpensive way to add more storage in about 6 months, but I will deal with that then.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little board

Pros: Mini-ITX. Low power consumption(<35Watts). Low Price. Makes a great little file or webserver when used with either Linux or Vista.

Cons: Doesn't have DVI or HDMI connections, but this may be expected due to marketing reasons. Limited to 2GB of RAM.

Other Thoughts: This is the second one of these boards I've bought. I bought it to make a spare computer as these boards are entering end of life according to the Intel website.

I run Vista Ulimate 32 on these boards just fine, and use it for a fileserver, VPN server, mail server, webserver, and a weather station server for a Davis weather station.

I've left my older board on 24x7 for several years now without any problems.

My configuration is:
Intel D945GBCL2
2GB low profile Kingston 533MHz valueram
Western Digital 640GB blue laptop hard drive
Morex 3677B( purchased from a different website )

My total power consumption is less then 35 Watts compared to my desktop which is almost 200 Watts.

These boards will run Vista 64bit, but I didn't notice any performance improvements since the board has a maximum of 2GB or RAM.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: I've had this running 24 hours a day for almost a year. Never a problem with heat or noise. Love the multithreading with 64-bit linux on this system. The built-in SATA made it very easy to cable both the hard drive and the DVD writer.

Cons: It would have been nice to have a better built-in graphics system. It plays video mostly ok, but not as well as the larger faster machines. The single slot is PCI, which works for my TV card, but doesn't let me put in a quality graphics card.

Other Thoughts: A PCI/E slot would have been nice. For this size this machine is excellent.

5 out of 5 eggspretty sweet

Pros: mini itx form factor
runs cool
ubuntu 9.10 server shows 4 logical cores
works great as a linux server (LAMP)

Cons: for what I am using it for there are no cons.

Other Thoughts: works with no issues with ubuntu 9.10
I have 2 drives in a RAID 1 running the OS
and a 4 drive RAID 5 for data.
I use it as a server, no so sure how it would work as a desktop.

1 out of 5 eggsVGA doesn't work

Pros: Cheap?

Cons: After firing this board up, I found that it wasn't outputting any VGA signal, after testing multiple monitors & VGA cables. Bummer.
