4 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: For the price, this will give you a ridiculously fast computer.

Cons: The onboard Audio is NOT compatible with Vista. I'm going to have to add a sound card. I emailed ECS customer support regarding this issue and they never got back to me.

Other Thoughts: I bought an extra half gig of memory and I also installed a low end video card. I can't tell the difference between this and higher end computers. I ran it with Ubuntu Linux for a few days and the sound worked just fine, however, Windows Vista doesn't know what to do with the onboard audio and ECS was no help.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Compaq Upgrade

Pros: Easy to install, nice features for such a cheap board, it seems stable enough, great bundle package. Fast shipping!

Cons: Audio drivers didn't work, I had to find them. The rebate took awhile to get here, but it finally came.

Other Thoughts: Went into a Compaq that got hit by lightening. The Athlon replaced a P4 Celeron, and recycled the 512 stick from the Compaq to up the RAM to 1gig for a great upgrade. The customer was very satisfied with the end result.

5 out of 5 eggsTough to beat for the money!!

Pros: Solid instructions, easy to install, lots of features, CPU and fan already installed, fairly quiet, great for a basic build. Integrated sound and video worked perfectly.

Cons: No firewire 1394 jack or connectors. Driver updates hard to find online. The floppy drive connector has the third pin keyed and all my floppy drives have the second pin keyed. Special ribbon cable needed to adapt this.

Other Thoughts: I took the other reviewers advice by adding another 1 Gb of memory. This system just took off with XP SP2!! It really is almost as fast my AMD X2 4200! Newegg's warp drive delivery is always the best!

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of junk

Pros: n/a

Cons: will not power on at all!!
I'm going to have to return it for a refund!!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

There could be a number of reason that's causing it not to power up and not necessary the motherboard. We also encourage our customers to contact our support dept for assistance should they run into any issue. We can be reached at support@ecsusa.com or 510-226-7333 (option 6).

Sincerely,
ECS

2 out of 5 eggsNot for linux...

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: SiS is terrible about linux drivers. If you want to revive an old machine with a light linux distro, this probably isn't the best choice. The video card isn't supported well at all by the company. You won't get the 3D rendering and I have had trouble with any resolution beyond ~1200x700.

2 out of 5 eggsBe Prepared for work

Pros: This is inexpensive and has RAM, fits in a mini form factor

Cons: Driver support is horrible. Audio codec for Vista is lousy and it takes work to find vista drivers for the LAN in Vista. Linux has a problem with the audio

Other Thoughts: Check out the PC Chips website (not ECS) if you want to find drivers. Vista audio still sucks because of the particular chipset and the soundmax website may update their support for the audio eventually (it's under construction as of this post)

5 out of 5 eggsRuns very well

Pros: Runs good, stays cool, does the job.

Cons: Use 333 RAM , Not 400. I got a BSOD with 400.

Other Thoughts: Try it, you'll like it.

3 out of 5 eggsNot packaged well

Pros: Good enough for basic use or a secondary PC

Cons: No PCI-e 1x slot, only 2 SATA ports. (Two EIDE - would make a good replacement for an older system with failed CPU or motherboard, but see below.)

Other Thoughts: I will choose a different combo if I decide to go with one again. This comes complete with memory and cooler, with the cooler mounted to the board already. The problem is they then ship it in the box designed for the motherboard, which is the same height as the board + cooler. I'm sure the pressure on the processor was the reason the first one I got was DOA.
