5 out of 5 eggsVista Install tips Value PC build

Pros: I have built over 32 systems with this board and it's step sister that comes with the Sempron 3000. Vista builds require one thing thats a Sound Card as soundmax not ecs or pcchips has never updated a compatible driver. I reccomend PC3200 RAM at least 1gb ram for XP, 2gb for Vista. Gaming is pretty good on this board if you use the Athlon 3200 and are playing games that meet the specs I have tested FARCRY, DUNGEON SEIGE2 of course using a discrete Video Card additionally it was once advertised at a higher price and had a HSF however I never use Stock Heatsinks you can get a very quiet EVERCOOL K801-825CA here on site its very cheap and delivers good cooling. This board has had not one DOA or customer return all year and my partner uses one everyday I built his last March. I even got at least one rebate per promotion which is the limit per household/promotion they just took awhile to arrive.

Cons: Vista build requires discrete soundcard

Other Thoughts: Best Bang For the Buck it performs DVD Creation, Photo Editing, Music ripping & burning, onboard Video will play Hulu & Netflix streaming just fine for gaming or higher video quality add a Video Card 128mb or better. I used lots of left over parts from customers older systems most had Pentium 4 or Athlon Xp systems this was a marked upgrade w/ good speeds, a value price. They have returned for additional pc's as christmas gifts or birhtdays that is more telling than any techie info I can give you when a buyer is satisfied the only compliment I need. The average user doesn't care about dual core or this speed and that they want a pc that boots up in reasonable time & performs well for the beginner to average user & light gamer this is perfect...now if I get a real pc enthusiast I turn to ECS 780G & ECS Geforce8200 mobo's the quality of this board has made a a faithful buyer of ECS products & ECS bought PCChips several years ago but used both names till now.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter luck with new boards

Pros: Decent performance from a very cost effective board/cpu/memory. In an earlier review I had described a board with bad USB ports. Since then I have received a replacement and ordered another board. Both the replacement and the other new board have been built into systems and work flawlessly. One board is running XP Pro and the other is running Fedora 10.

Cons: None to speak of.

Other Thoughts: Since the board is using older memory technology it is not suitable for something like a virtual server (vmware, VirtualBox) although it can run these products at a minimal level. This barebones setup is perfect for a workstation however.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Motherboard

Pros: This board can get the job done. The processor isn't one of the newer ones, but i play may games online, with a high demand for memory and speed and i haven't had any problems.

Cons: I wish it had more PCI slots.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Everything went fine with a new install if Vista Basic except->

Cons: No vista driver for the on board sound. ECS web site no help at all. They don't even list a Goal3+. Be sure to order a cpu fan - none included.

Other Thoughts: Guess I'll have to buy a pci sound card with Vista drivers.

5 out of 5 eggsNo Problems Here...

Pros: Easy Setup, Included all Drivers, Threw it in my case and was ready to roll. I didn't even have to put a new copy of xp on the hdd. No issues to date.

Cons: None, it is not the best set up, but for the price it cant be beat.

Other Thoughts: I used this combo to replace an old motherboard and processor that died on me to hold me over till I bought a new setup. (Which I ordered from Newegg today.) Cost me about a hundred bucks with the cpu fan and 2 day shipping. Not bad to get my system up and running again so I could research my new system parts. Will use this setup in another case and give it to my sister who is stuck with an old 500mhz celeron, I'm sure she will be happy.

2 out of 5 eggsBad USB ports

Pros: This board with the accompanying memory and CPU is a bargain. I've owned several ECS products over the years and although they are often low-medium performance they have been very reliable. I recently built another system using a more high end ECS motherboard and it's running flawlessly.

Cons: This board - the Goal3 is not identified by that name on the ECS web site. Unfortunately none of the USB ports on the motherboard I received worked. Oddly, Windows XP recognized the USB hardware but when you plugged a flash drive or an external USB hard drive into any of the ports, they weren't recognized. Even the USB ports that are used with front connectors and are headers on the motherboard didn't work. The tech support number listed for ECS appears to be wrong.

Other Thoughts: I received this board via UPS and the Newegg box was heavily damaged. The motherboard box inside appeared to be Ok but when the entire corner of the outside container was ripped off you wonder about the beating the package took. The USB port problem could very well have been due to invisible shipping damage. Newegg as always is a pleasure to deal with and none of this is their fault. When I checked Newegg I was looking to order another one of these boards and at the same time RMA the bad one but unfortunately they were out of stock. ;^( I'm now waiting out the RMA and hopefully Newegg will have a replacement board for me.

2 out of 5 eggsDon't believe what they're telling you!

Pros: Nice board for the money. I've built about a dozen PCs with this board in the last year and so far all have worked well.

Cons: They were, however, less than thruthful in the description of the board capabilities! They advertise 64 bit support. THERE ARE NO 64 BIT AUDIO DRIVERS for SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio!!! In order to run an audio card with 64 bit drivers you must buy an aftermarket card. Kinda of negates the savings on the board.

Other Thoughts: The fact that ECS was less than honest in their description of the Goal3+ will keep me from buying anymore of their products!

5 out of 5 eggsSweet

Pros: This is a refinement of my previous eval.
This board works great. Running Simply MEPIS LINUX and it moves right along. All the board connections are easy.

Mepis installed flawlessly. This was a machine for my 84 year old mother. 1 GIG of ram, otherwise stock.

Cons: Never did get the supposedly included fan thing sorted out. I ordered and received a fan on my own from newegg.

Other Thoughts: it would be great to see what the performance on average game settings would be after you pop a decent pcie video card in....I'm thinking it would pretty much run any linux game. Not sure about something heavy like Steam under CEDEGA or Crossover office, or under VMWARE.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: cheap upgrade for those who need a basic computer. It WAS advertised with the fan when I ordered it also. There is something going on here, because I see the fan not advertised. I'll email and see what response I get also. I have ordered several of these boards and they are all working great.

Cons: The advertised fan not included

Other Thoughts: All combo deals should include a heatsink and fan.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost ready

Pros: I bought this to revitalize my mother's machine. She's 84 - you get the picture. I'll finish the review once I get everything installed.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I could have sworn this was originally advertised with a cpu cooling fan. Upon arrival, and not seeing one, I emailed Newegg, (and have not received a response). I have since ordered a fan. So, once I get that, I'll finish the review. I also now notice it is not advertised with a fan...hmm....
