JetWay presents the perfect merger of form and function with their mini-ITX mainboard utilizing the VIA C7 processor. The small form factor makes it an ideal choice for POS systems, home servers, information kiosks and monitoring systems. While the C7 processor and associated chipsets include hardware support for MPEG-2 and -4 as well as hardware encryption.
Since the system can't survive in isolation there are 2 Gigabit LAN ports and 4 USB 2.0 ports. Six channel audio and UniChrome graphics are also included. You can add up to 4 drives with the PATA and 2 SATA connectors. Get megautility in a microboard -- take home this offering from Jetway and see what you can wring out of it.

Great low power mini-itx board
- Pros: This is a speedy little board, with all hardware fully supported by Linux. The VIA PadLock encryption is great, but the dual GigE ports were the selling point for me. Haven't had any stability issues reported on some websites for this series (J7F4). I highly recommend this board.
- Cons: The manual is trash; download the one from the Jetway website instead. No BIOS USB-HDD support is annoying. Likewise, the 1 GB RAM limit is annoying, but seems to be the current "standard." Can't get frequency modulation to work in Linux, but this seems to be a kernel problem, not a hardware one, so don't let that stop you.
- Other Thoughts: The information on this page is incorrect, there is only ONE PATA port, not two (see the picture). I hope the industry migrates to DVI video out and increases the max RAM to 2 GB. And seriously, is it too much to ask to have a well written English manual?
You definitely do not need a 24-pin power cable for this board to work properly.
Has memory compatibility issues
- Pros: Great tiny form factor, low power board. Had no problems getting it up and running with FreeBSD. Dual gigabit ethernet ports make it a great router/firewall. The CPU fan isn't silent, but it's certainly quieter than a standard 80mm case fan.
- Cons: Beware of the memory requirements! The board does take DDR2 533/PC4200 memory, but NOWHERE on either Newegg nor Jetway's site does it say that it requires low-density (64M) DIMMs. I tried to use a 128Mx64 1GB DIMM that Crucial's online memory selector recommended, and the system only recognizes half of it (512MB). I tried a 64M stick instead, and I get the full 1GB capacity.
- Other Thoughts: I realize English may not be the native language of the manual writers, but you'd think they'd be able to spell the word "board" correctly. On the cover of the manual.

Nice Unit - Too Bad DOA
- Pros: Nice sized, low power board. Planning to use it in a catch-all computer that would run Ubuntu, surf the web and play some music. Price was not to bad...
- Cons: First of 2 units that were DOA. We tried everything from new memory, 3 power supplies, not too many jumpers but we methodically went through them all. Even without memory, the unit would not enter POST - not even a single beep... Fortunately, Newegg sent me another...
- Other Thoughts: None
Nice little unit
- Pros: Works with Ubuntu 8.10, Suse 11 and others. Nice having 2 Nics. Wonderful for proxy server, email server, dns server even cvs server.
- Cons: Bare bones model is a better value with brick PS and case.
- Other Thoughts: I used this in a shuttle case. The shuttle mb died and this fit well. Just had to add an extension to the shuttles ps cable. Works great.
Excellent Small Computer
- Pros: Extremely small. Lots of great features packed into a tiny motherboard. Add-on cards give a larger selection of IO ports for embedded or LAN applications. Linux, BSD, and Windows all seem to run just fine on this system. I've been using it for a FreeNAS server for the last 6 months or so, and haven't had any problems. I use the onboard PATA and SATA together with (4) 500GB drives in a software RAID5 and get very respectable speeds.
- Cons: Kinda high priced for what you get. Bummer there's only one memory slot. And too bad they don't make a add-on card (like the gigabit ethernet or serial adapters) for additional SATA or PATA controllers.
- Other Thoughts: The low heat output and low power requirements make this an excellent embedded system, or an excellent always-on server.
