1 out of 5 eggsFirst Failure From Newegg

Pros: Has the features and expandability that I need in a network server application. Will replace a Jetway board with a VIA chipset for this board, if I can get a JNC92-330-LF that will work.

Cons: On-board video would never stabilize or sync to monitor. Swapped out everything but the motherboard and the problem was still there. So I had to RMA the board. I hope the replacement arrives this year.

Other Thoughts: Newegg RMA process was kinda smooth: 4 stars. My first RMA with Newegg. Email RMA guidance needs some work (lose a star for this one). No link to the prepaid UPS label in email so I had to log into my Newegg account, find the link, and print it out. I hope the replacement works otherwise I have to 'take the hit" on the restocking fee so I can get a refund.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This board is the only mini-itx board I could find that supported more than two 10/100/1000 lan connections without using the single pci slot. This leaves the pci slot available for a wifi card and makes it perfect for pfsense, as the other reviewer noted. It also has plenty of bios options, including fan speed controls based on temps so that you can make the board whisper quite.

Cons: Not really the mobos fault but those looking to use this with Smoothwall (and likely IPCop) should know that a sata hdd won't be detected on installation. This is do to the Smoothwall kernel not currently supporting the chipset.

Other Thoughts: Great little low power board that's good for an edge router or small fileserver thanks to the various available daughter boards.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent board with a lousy chipset

Pros: Dual-core Atom is quick enough to use as a light-duty desktop or an edge router, accepts expansion daughter cards from Jetway (not sold by NewEgg for some reason), CPU is fanless.

Cons: CPU is fanless but chipset is not (and actually draws more power than the CPU), single memory slot limits you to single-channel, "USB2" on the motherboard is too close to another component and won't be able to be used if your case or backplane adapter uses a keyed cable.

Other Thoughts: This board, combined with the triple Gig-E daughter card from JetWay, makes an excellent edge router with pfSense for a small-to-medium business.

My plans are to get two and use CARP for failover.

For reference, this board with a 1GB DIMM, an 8GB SLC CF card, the triple-Gigabit daughter card, and a 160GB WD Scorpio Black 2.5" drive draws 26W when idle while powered by a PicoPSU 120W. That would probably be 5W less if the board used the GN40 chipset.
