1 out of 5 eggsexpected much more

Pros: android on a big screen, plays many games, and internet works well

Cons: no flash support, in order to install appear you have to use a hack to access play store, video streaming services do not work well if at all so netflix is out, no built in wireless and limited support for add-on devices, worked well for streaming videos over a lan (shared folders) but since updating appear that has gone down the tubes as well.

Other Thoughts: I would wait for a more usable version to come out or consider other brands. I am personally going to stick with mini pc variations for now.

1 out of 5 eggsHow do you rate less than 1 egg?

Pros: Could be used as a paperweight.
The red board looks good as a wall ornament.

Cons: Too light to be an effective paperweight.
You can only hang it on the wall with the ports facing down.

Other Thoughts: There is a forum on forum.apc.io on this "thing" Do yourself a favor and visit it before you even think of buying this...

1 out of 5 eggsJunk. DO NOT BUY.

Pros: NONE. Well, I guess it is cheap, but for a paperweight it's still expensive.

Cons: Useless OS, NO support from VIA, NO updates to the OS in 6 months to fix MAJOR issues, crashes constantly, no native/clean way to install apps, limited access, and VERY bad hardware specs for the price.

Other Thoughts: It's just really really sad. VIA advertised a rethink of the PC, saying that it really is basically for web browsing these days. Problem is the APC can't even do that without crashing constantly. And don't try to install a better browser. Oh no. The APC can't install apps in the standard way from Google Play. And even if you do manage to find an .apk file for what you want, well, the APC is so slow it's painful to use anything.

This is a BUGGY, overpriced, paperweight, "running" outdated software on mind-numbingly underwhelming hardware by even smartphone standards of today.

Buy ANYTHING else in this category and you will be more satisfied. Raspberry Pi, Rikomagic MK802 IIIs, etc.

I wish I could give it half a star or none at all.

1 out of 5 eggsGet the RasPI instead

Pros: Guess I can't leave this blank

Cons: The OS it ships with is unusable even for web browsing (the intent of the device). There is no official support for adding any apps and side-porting has mixed results at best. Lack of source and drivers mean you don't have any realistic options for alternate OS.

Other Thoughts: I'd strongly recommend the raspberry pi over the APC (or even an inexpensive Android tablet)

If you're unsure just check out the official user forum at apc's website (apc.io)

3 out of 5 eggsAPC - A piece of c...

Pros: Fast startup and shutdown times
Good quality sound
A lot of USB ports
Audio In jack (unavailale in Raspbery PI or the Cubie)
Additional VGA port (unavailale in Raspbery PI or the Cubie)

Cons: Slow performance
Lack or GPIO pins
Relatively large size compared to Raspbery PI and the Cubie board

Other Thoughts: I have this board connected to an HDTV though HDMI. It is apparent that the hardware installed in this board is not sufficient to adequately serve as an alternative to a lightweight PC for internet browsing, Youtube etc. It takes some time to load web pages, the keyboard response has a bit of a lag, and the Youtube videos have a lag between the video and the sound in addition to accasional skipped frames.

Because of the above problems, for a lightweight computer replacement I would purchase one of the motherboard / CPU / VGA combos sold at Newegg (some of which cost less than this APC board), with a cheap harddrive and some memory and use it.

Maybe APC could still be useful for various hardware experiments, however it lacks GPIO pins compared to the Raspbery PI and the Cubie board not to mention larger size. Unfortunately I don't currently have a Raspbery PI or the Cubie board to compare with the APC in terms of performance, I just hope they are better than this.
