1 out of 5 eggsWindows Driver Issues

Pros: Cheap

Cons: If you want to use this for Windows RAID, forget it. Let me be very specific here. I used this controller with 2 1TB drives. I created a mirror from the BIOS and proceeded to install Windows XP. I upgraded Windows XP to the latest release+patches etc.

Soon after that I started getting errors on the system log. Within 1 day the RAID device had failed. It seen one disk as bad. However, the second disk failed as well. This is impossible. No way 2 drives fail within 1 day.

So, I figure that in 1 TB disk situation there are bound to be bad blocks. RAID should try to re-map the bad blocks and continue.

The RAID on this card doesn't seem to like that.

I tried a similar experiment with 2 500GB disks and guess what? Same thing.

So, now I will use this card on a Linux box and I will let Linux do the RAID. No driver from KINGWIN.

Let's see how that goes.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware!!!

Pros: None, except for NewEgg's return policy. I am going to return it right after I write this review.

Cons: Crashed repeatedly. I bought this controller card in order to add a Westrern Digital Caviar Green 1TB Drive (WD10EACS)to my Dimension 8250. Drivers went in OK and I could copy data to my drive through the controller card but could not read from it without the system slowing down to an impossible speed. I then tested it in a pavilion a820n which already has SATA ports but I just wanted to test the controller card. Same results, system slowed to a crawl and became useless. Next I just put my 1TB drive in a SATA port on the pavilion just to make sure that it wasn't the drive, and it worked like a champ. This controller card (or it's drivers) are no good. Oh yeah, I checked for updated drivers from Kingwin and Silicon Image, they didn't work either.

Other Thoughts: DO NOT buy this card unless you want to spend many hours wasting your time trying to get it to work. I hope that NewEgg will discontinue this item so that others will not have to waste their time like I did.

5 out of 5 eggsVERY SATISFIED!!!

Pros: Does what it says it will do. What more can you ask for? I bought 5 for customers adding HDD's to older computers. No Brainer if you know what you are doing.

Cons: No cons that I could tell.

Other Thoughts: Buy one if you need one!

1 out of 5 eggsVery poor quality - don't buy it!!!

Pros: one of the few pci to sata RAID cards on newegg...

Cons: Very poor quality. Pins not gold plated, soldering very poor too. Everything made as cheap as possible. My card works for 15 mins and getting crazy... Was big headache to figure out what's going on...

Other Thoughts: I will be happy if newegg will have something better quality

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well!

Pros: Works well with a 250GB Seagate Drive
Was cheap
Installs with ease
Works in Windows Server 2003 32bit

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: It did what I needed it to do. I added this to an old PIII box that I am using as a fileserver.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: Cheap, Kingwin quality reputation.

Cons: DOA - Shipped with 2006 firmware and BIOS - latest on SIL website is 2007/08 - This card drove me nuts after checking my drives and trying in different machines. Ultimately there was no other culprit - the card was a DUD.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card because it was a little more expensive, and seemed a better choice than the cheaper Serial ATA 150 cards available
