1 out of 5 eggsWill not work with Presonus FireStudio Project and Studio One Artist Software

Pros: NewEgg's awesome service...

Cons: This card will not work with Presonus FireStudio Project and Studio One Artist software. You will not be able to record anything. The chipset on the card is made by NEC. If that information is made available in the item description, I would not have bought this at all. Who ever wrote that they used it with Presonus could have gotten a card with some other chip set (may be)... For an ordinary chipset PCMCIA card, this is expensive.

Other Thoughts: Darn, Presonus is picky when it comes to what Firewire devices it will work reliably with!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for purchasing our Syba products. We are sorry to hear that the product has stop functioning as it should be. Please refer to our reviews. You are a special case because Presonus FireStudio Project does not except the NEC chipset. We always try to provide the most reliable products to our customers and all products come with at least 3-year warranty. So please don't hesitate to contact us at support@sybausa.com for replacement or question.

Regards,
Syba Customer Service KN 081610

1 out of 5 eggsSyba PCMCIA Card IEEE 1394a 2X

Pros: none: I had to give this item a one star rating to get this review submitted - my rating now is really "zero" stars

Cons: Can not get the computer to recognize the device. Manual installation results in Windows returning - "Installed but may not work error code 10"

Other Thoughts: I appear to be the only person to not be able to install this device in a Dell laptop running WinXP SP2. I am using Adobe Prem Elements 4 software to download video from a Sony DV camcorder. Like the device, if I can get it to work I will love it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

This device is Plug and Play under Windows XP. If your driver is corrupted, please uninstall the driver from Device Manager and right click to select ‘Scan for hardware changes’ to reinstall the driver. All of our products come with at least 3 years warranty. Please don't hesitate to contact us at support-us@syba.com if you have any problem or question.

Regards,
Syba Customer Service

4 out of 5 eggsVery Decent Firewire card

Pros: No drivers to install, device was picked up by windows right away and was installed seamlessly. Transferring video from my DV camcorder within minutes of plugging this thing in. Ordered it on a Wednesday and received it the next day. Very fast shipping. Very nice product.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: If you need a cheap easy way to get video to your windows based laptop this is the most bang for your buck.

4 out of 5 eggsFlimsy Construction, Works Perfect

Pros: Cheap, Works Great w/ some configuring. So far completely reliable.

Cons: The actual plug insterts are only mounted to the circuit board and not the casing so they move around when you plug in your cord. If you travel with it, you'll want to put it into a hard case, the extended housing actually bends from the slim PCI hardware housing.

Other Thoughts: XP supports it well, but you might have to re-install the XP driver when switching from different applications such as video cameras and hard drives.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks for some devices

Pros: Inexpensive. I purchased this card along with the Rosewill RC-602. The SYBA card works with my Canon Digital Camcorder, whereas the Rosewill card doesn't work reliably unless I use a (not supplied) 12V DC supply.

Cons: The SYBA card does not work with my external firewire drive, whereas the Rosewill card works fine, even without the 12V supply.

Other Thoughts: Between the two cards, the Syba is more convenient if working with a camcorder, since it doesn't need an external supply, unless you are trying to control an external hard drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Worked as described. Using it to connect DV camera to laptop. Works like a charm

Cons: none at all

Other Thoughts: I wish they would make the Firewire cards that are flush to the PCMCIA port and have included dongle, but I guess thats just another thing to lose.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine

Pros: Easy to use, cheap, works fine with windows, my hard drive, and my webcam.

Cons: Doesn't supply power to devices.

Other Thoughts: Does there even exist a PCMCIA Firewire card that supplies power? If there is it should advertise that feature.
