1 out of 5 eggsCrashed my system 2X

Pros: NONE... They released a driver update, but I'm no convinced to try.

Cons: Crashed Win7 twice and I removed the unit from my system and Win7 booted.

Other Thoughts: They shouldn't release a product with drivers that crash your system. So I don't care if they fixed the problem, they caused me several headaches!

5 out of 5 eggsNo complaints, just works

Pros: Worked right out of the box, Windows 8 recognized and installed own WHCL drivers. I did replace with the latest ones from Etron because I generally run the latest drivers available.

Cons: None that I can see so far. Instructions were adequate and box not fancy, but didn't expect anything else.

Other Thoughts: Tested with a Hitachi external 3.0 1TB hard drive. Speed increased considerably compared to the old 2.0 USB ports on my computer. I've seen a number of complaints on Etron but seem related to older drivers. Time will tell.

PS: Don't forget to plug in the 5V power line (from a normal Molex drive power lead) otherwise you won't be supplying power to external products that need it such as mobile hard drives.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Work - Junk

Pros: None. Just another junk card from Syba.

Cons: Didn't recognize any USB device when installed in a Windows 7 PC. I even updated the driver but it still didn't work.

Other Thoughts: Syba must make a lot of junk cards because this is the third card that didn't work on two PC's.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

Making affordable and feature rich controller cards are our mission. USB 3.0 is a new technology and a lot of the USB devices on the market have not been fully tested for compatiability.

If you give us a call, may be we can find a solution for you. We have tested the products we sold. And all the cards are make with State of the Art SMT equiements.

Out of box defective is very unlikely.

We found that driver installation is one of the causes for problem of USB 3.0 card.

Please remove the driver been installed. Manually install the driver from our mini CD. Windows will usually guess the wrong USB 3.0 driver for our card. If you use our driver, our card should work fine.

Our technical support team is available to help 9am-5pm M-F. Feel free to contact us during those business hours at support@sybausa.com

We apologize for any issues that you are having. As you know we are more than happy to provide our customers with a hassle free exchange when a product is defective.

1 out of 5 eggsEtron chipset + driver is buggy

Pros: This is an update to my review. As another poster stated, the Etron chipset and driver are well, pretty bad. I am now 100% sure that this is what hangs up my computer when I use ANY USB 3.0 device. I updated the driver on Etron's wacky website (shows the driver as a pdf file!) and no improvement. Their given link in their "literature" gives you an old driver which doesn't work either.

Cons: After searching, I found that this chip is roundly panned. It's not just Gigabyte boards that it doesn't work with apparently. Maybe it works with some; I sure don't know.

Other Thoughts: Replaced it with a Trendnet TU3-H2PIE (available at good old NewEgg) and no problems. This one has a NEC chipset which is apparently the way to go. Speed may be limited by your computer internals, but mine is much faster than USB 2.0, that's for sure.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are working hard with the chipset manufactures to provide the newest updated driver versions when they become available. Please visit our website from time to time to for updated dirvers.

There are few tricks to make our USB 3.0 cards work better:
1. Always connect the optional power to the back of the card. Nowadays, a lot of the high performance USB devices need power. Without the power feed, it might generate problems.
2. Try the card in different slots. It might suprise you when you switch slots.
3. Keep the Windows version you are using up to date. USB 3.0 is a new technology and there are many upgrades that will effect the performance and stability of the controller cards.

We are more than willing to provide all of our customers with prompt exchanges whenever a product becomes defective.

SYBA offers an on-line RMA form, the user can easily fill out the form and submit it for a quick RMA return and exchange. It is SYBA's policy to answer all customer inquiries within 24 hours (M-F)

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid This Card

Pros: Price. That's all.

Cons: Card doesn't work at all with Linux. Card works sporadically with Windows7. Drops connected drives randomly. No driver support, along with confusing source information from either syba or VIA. We found VL800 chipsets listed along with Etron chipset, neither of which is updated.

Other Thoughts: This card was purchased as part of an experiment to trial all available usb3 cards, and it and one other are dismal failures. Buy something with an NEC chipset if you want compatability, and buy anything else if you want it to work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer;

This card does not support Linux. There is no Linux driver available at this time.

Many of the problems can be fixed with a new driver update. USB 3.0 technology is still in its infancy so driver updates are release quite frequently. Please check with our website for thenewest driver update.

You may visit the chipset manufacturer website for driver updates for Linux.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good

Pros: Two USB 3.0 ports. It is powered so the ports are too. Easy install. Doesn't take much room in my crowded box.

Cons: Sometimes seems to hang up computer when both ports are used - the first with a USB 3.0 device and the second with a USB 2.0 device. So I don't do that. Driver on disc is out of date. But at least they tell you where to get it in the little booklet that comes with it. Website for Etron who made the chip is out of date, with dead end links for the driver. For me, it's faster than USB 2.0, but not real fast.

Other Thoughts: Wasn't too expensive so it was worth a shot. Some people complain that this chip doesn't play well with certain Gigabyte boards (I have one), so maybe that's why it hangs. Eh, give it a shot!

4 out of 5 eggsNice Card

Pros: - Small foorprint
- Looks to be good build quality

Cons: - Must have internal power cable connected to use and USB device.

Other Thoughts: So far this has been a good card. I ran some initial speed test and get 150 - 160 MB/s up and down. I am guessing the bottleneck is my Sata 2 connection to my internal drives otherwise I would probably get a better speed.
