1 out of 5 eggsBe cautious

Pros: good speed

Cons: 1 - Dead after four months
2 - fried a USB video card

Other Thoughts: I should have read the other review about how this board can fry devices and four months of life seems limited

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear about the issues you have been experiencing with this card.

This is not normal behavior for this card. It should not fail after 4 months nor should it destroy USB devices.

We would advise you to complete our RMA form for a replacement device.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Works great. No issues.
Fast USB3 speeds.

Uses the standard power connector, the one with 4 pins you use on old ATA drives. Comes with every PSU, as far as I know.

Cons: This one time I thought that it had stopped working. Realized after a few days that I had forgotten to plug in the internal power connector.

Other Thoughts: Owned for 5 months.
I believe the internal USB3 slot takes place of one of the external ones, so there're only 3 usable slots, not 4.

5 out of 5 eggsSyba USB 3.0 3+1 port PCIe Card - Works Great

Pros: - 3 external USB 3.0 Ports
- 1 Internal USB 3.0 Ports
- Reliable
- High Speed Data Transfers
- Reasonable Cost
- Has both std. and Low Profile Brackets

Cons: - None that I know of.

Other Thoughts: I have this card installed in a HP Proliant N54L Microserver. I have all external ports connected up to external HDD and the internal port connected up to a SSD. The server has be running 24/7 for more than 4 months and I have not experienced any problems whatsoever with the Syba card. Reliability is a key feature for a server application and this card is doing great so far.

Data transfer rates through the ports is as fast as the connected drives. I measured transfer speeds between Seagate 7200rpm HDD's at peak speeds of 220MB/sec for short periods with sustained speeds in excess of 150MB/sec. That is as fast as those drives can be. I measured data transfer speeds with a Vertex 3 SSD in excess of 500MB/sec which is what the mfg spec says is the maximum speed.

This card has a total of 4 USB 3.0 ports. The cost of the card, including the low profile bracket (important for a Proliant Microserver where space is very tight) was the same as several other PCIe cards with only one or two ports.

I went to the website and downloaded the drivers for this card. The CD that came with this card had the most current drivers so there was no difference in performance. Be aware that the CD has many other drivers for different device than just this card. You will have to choose the drivers you want or you load up a lot of extra drivers if you select them all.

I only tested this card with supplemental power supplied to the card to power the ports. Some people want cards that do not need secondary power. My research indicates that USB 3.0 ports require more power and if you wish to use devices which pull power from the port (for charging or to run a device) it is necessary to put supplemental power to the port. Its a reliability issue.

I am happy with this USB 3.0 PCIe card performance and reliability. I recommend it.

1 out of 5 eggsFries Hardware

Pros: Works with externally powered hard drives

Cons: Fries devices that require power from PSU such as flash drives, keyboards, mouses, etc. Lost over $100 in fried equipment.

Other Thoughts: DON'T buy unless used exclusively for externally powered devices. Even so, I would RISK IT.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great for me

Pros: No issues -- installed, with power cable, and it works with Seagate external USB 3.0 drive.

Cons: Had to order SATA-to-Molex Y-cable with SYBA card.

Other Thoughts: Installed in Dell 8300 that only had USB 2.0. It uses SATA drives, so I ordered an Athena SATA-to-Molex Y-cable with the SYBA card.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: I bought this card because Antec, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the front panel USB 3.0 port would best be served by a normal USB male end on the cable, not a motherboard connector. Why? I don't know, but they provided a nice little plate to pass said USB end out the back of the computer, blocking a potential PCI slot, and into a USB 3.0 port on the back of my motherboard. Insanity!

The internal port on this card serves nicely to remedy said issue, and I have had no problems to date with any of the other functionality. All in all, a great card.

Cons: Molex is a bit of a pain but I understand the need completely.

Pros: cant give it a pro when it doesnt work

Cons: Not recognized on a commercial Hewlett Packard Z800 machine. Nothing works, will have to RMA it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

From our past experiences, our cards should work with most HP systems out in production.

Not knowing too much about HP Z800, but from our research, your issue might be caused by the Z80 server slots. Which use different voltage.

Please check your motherboard and see if there is a voltage jumper for 3.3V setting.

Please also check what type of OS is on your Z800.

We apologize for any issues that you are having.

2 out of 5 eggsreliable Renesas chipset, Bad design

Pros: Renesas is among the most compatible usb 3.0 chipsets.

Constant stream of driver and firmware updates on station-drivers to keep it up to date.

Cons: Wish I could get UAS protocol support in windows 7

Badly designed, makes you connect molex connector to power up even low powered or self powered USB devices.
My other Renesas USB 3.0 cards only make molex power connector optional, this one is mandatory.
Drivers on CD is old, dont even bother.

Other Thoughts: Manufacturer does not even specify that Molex power is mandatory on this card, every other card's molex connector is optional for high powered USB 3.0 devices.
Had to buy a molex extension cable cause the one is the system did not reach.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

The reason we recommend a power feed to this card is that more and more USB 3.0 devices demend more power.

Most of the older motherboards do not supply enough power through their PCI-e slots. Many large USB 3.0 flash drives consume more power than the PCI-e can provide. The USB 3.0 chipset also consumes power to opearte.

This card also cannot function without molex power cord, we apologize for the lack of details and misinterpretation.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work for me

Pros: None.

Cons: I installed it on my Dell computer and it did not work. I followed all the steps and tried to troubleshoot but still did not work. I installed and reinstalled physical card, drivers few times too. Tried few working USB devices to plug in but none was recognized.
