5 out of 5 eggsGreat for firewire audio

Pros: Like many of the other reviewers, I'm using this firewire card for Pro Audio, in my case an M-Audio Profire 2626. The ten dollar card I bought with my computer (with a Via chipset) was working sometimes, but would get garbled when CPU usage was high (such as certain games or when running VirtualBox), sounding like it was underwater.

With this card, everything works and sounds great even when taxing the CPU. 100% stable so far.

Version 8 of this card is plug-and-play under Windows 7 and 8. It's unlikely you'll get an older version if buying new.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: With Pro Audio, you can't take the risk of a failure while recording, which is why I bought this card rather than taking a chance with something else.

5 out of 5 eggsthe best

Pros: like the other reviewers here i bought this card to remedy intermittent troublesome firewire performance on my desktop for audio. this card brought me crackle free audio performance from my presonus fp-10. super easy to install, just plug it in and windows 7 does everything else. if you read online, this card is pretty much the be all/end all of superior firewire 400 performance... not just great for audio, but for video and everything else as well. on top of all this the card seems to be made very well hardware wise.

Cons: none, this is firewire perfection!

Other Thoughts: i was using an onboard VIA chip (vt6307/vt6308) and it was making my ASIO meter jump around and spike/timeout in cubase, along with delivering crackle/pops on playback and in recording whenever i used any virtual instruments or guitar amp sims. i then tried a VIA pci card i had lying around and while it seemed a bit better i decided to get this premium product. my ASIO meter now stays steady in the 15-30% range with no timeouts and no crackles, all while i have all of my normal background processes running (internet, virus scanner, etc). you owe it to yourself to get the best (especially for this price) for whatever it is you do with firewire on your desktop.

5 out of 5 eggsMOTU Approved

Pros: Worked instantly when previous device had not. No trouble with ASIO drivers. Clear transfer of audio.

Cons: ?

Other Thoughts: Replaced Syba device with this one which had TI chip as recommended by MOTU for my Ultralite. Worked right out of the box when the previous had not. Saved tons of money over swapping audio devices.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great For Audio Recording

Pros: Plug and play. Chipset plays well with others (ProTools, Steinberg, ect.) Used heavily with ART Tubefire and Steinberg AI7. Also used w/ Motu & Protools. No problems able to set clock speed pretty fast....Works great for audio recording. XP O/S - 32-bit.

Cons: Kinda big...but it works, so I deal with it.

5 out of 5 eggsFirestudio Project (PreSonus)

Pros: - Auto-Install (Vista x64) Plug-n-Play (Even though on the box vista is not listed as being compatible)
- Made my Firestudio Project Work
- Has 2 Firewire (My Dell Studio XP came with 1)=3
- Fast shipping (arrived 3 days earlier)

Cons: Can't come up with any, I'll re-write a review if any come up (i'm hoping not....)

Other Thoughts: Other thoughts.
I go into Guitar Center on my mind of Buying M-Audio USB Interface about 500$. Dealer tells me to buy Firestudio Project same price but better. I Buy it, come home, it doesnt' work! I search the internet, can't get it to work. I try to install windows xp on my new vista computer, install sonar, uninstall sonar, tried all kind of things but no luck.
Than searching the Presonus forum i came accross the firewire Topic (not sticky) and i thoguht let me try it. When i read reviews about it that this is what you need to make it work, i was verry veryyy mad at Presonus for a great product but no clarification about firewire might cause problems OR You'll need certain firewire....but anyway this is how i ended up at newegg.com and i'm glad, no time to waste, back to recording, thank you newegg i hope you get a newer egg...

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Card - Works Great

Pros: I needed a Firewire card for my old Xaser II full tower case, especially for an internal connection because the one and only front firewire port that Thermaltake provided was connected to a long firewire cable that ran from front to back. There were no other connections.

This is an easy install. Windows immediately recognized it and video capture went smooth from our mini-DV recorder.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: This definitely has a Texas Instruments chip that SIIG will cover with their own decal. It does what it is supposed to do plus I have two other firewire port connections if needed.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Like the other reviewers I needed a card with a Texas Instruments chipset for audio work. Plugged it in, booted up, and it worked. I actually started looking for the drivers myself before i realized it had done everything on its own (windowsXPhome SP3)

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Its a good piece of hardware, installation is as easy as it gets. If you need a pci firewire card, get this one.

5 out of 5 eggsTexas Instruments Chipset

Pros: Was flaky on my optiplex 755 at first, had to reseat it and reboot a few times. Once the chipset burned in, it worked flawlessly. I got this because presonus recommended it for its firestudio product. This is the first card that works with the presonus firestudio and I've been through 4 now.

Cons: Didnt work right away, most likely not seated in the pci slot completely, or due to dell's hardware choices.

Other Thoughts: Texas instruments chipset is the big winner here. They seem to have the most compatible firewire chipset out there.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect card for Pro Tools LE or M-Powered

Pros: Works excellent if you are a Pro Tools LE or M-Powered user and are having trouble with your built-in firewire.
Easy install, no CD needed with WinXP. Just unplug your computer, pop this in, close it up, boot up, and windows will install it. This has the Texas Instruments chipset on it.

Cons: could be a little cheaper. but price isn't THAT bad.

Other Thoughts: A lot of motherboards have a VIA chipsets, which can be problematic if running Pro Tools and possibly other audio software. Texas Instruments chipsets are recommended, and this card is specifically and officially qualified by Digidesign for use with Pro Tools LE and M-Powered. I had all kinds of crackling with the built in firewire on my Asus P5K. I got this SIIG card and my firewire troubles are gone gone gone!
