5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Extra driver not needed. Packaged well.

Cons: It's perfect.

Other Thoughts: Did a 2 step installation, first the card and boot, then hook up IDE CD drive and Hard Drive. It has to be the easiest installation ever. Not a single problem or configuration setting.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked great on GA-AM1M-S2H

Pros: I Upgraded an exsisting Case that Had a great Power Supply. I ordered a GA-AM1M-S2H mother board and it had only two Sata Connectors. I need both for a SSD Drive and Hard Drive. Didn't realize the CD drive was IDE. Eventhough this was a bit expensive, I bought this for the IDE CDRW Drive. It need NO drivers and the Motherboard Recognized it before loading WIN 7.

Cons: NONE

5 out of 5 eggsNice Little IDE Controller

Pros: I had two old IDE HDDs that I wanted to "recycle" in my newest computer build. Since my new motherboard has no IDE headers, this card did the trick. It was simple to install, required no drivers, and works fine. I can now access these old drives using my Win7 system. The attached HDDs were automatically detected by the BIOS

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I wanted my old drives to both be running as "Slaves." After reading the spec sheets for the drives, I concluded that my Seagate Barracuda 200 GB ST3200822A drive should have no jumpers (correct conclusion) and that my WD 320 GB WD3200AAJB drive should have a jumper cross pins 4 and 9 (incorrect conclusion). With this configuration, the system did not recognize the WD drive. The WD drive was recognized after I removed the jumper. Note that the included IDE cable was too short for my purpose. I purchased a 24" cable separately.

My build components are as follows:
Antec Gaming Series One black steel case
GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD3H motherboard
Intel Core i7-4771 Haswell 3.5GHz LGA 1150 processor
Dynatron K17 92mm CPU cooler

Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB HDD

1 out of 5 eggsShort Cable/BIOS Boot Priority Ignored

Pros: Adapter card recognized my IDE drive.

Cons: Included IDE cable is only 12". This is a very short cable that will only reach the bottom shelf drive. Do yourself a favor and get a 24" IDE cable. You can find one here on Newegg.

Some BIOS setup may be required. After installed, my computer tried to boot the IDE hard drive, which was not correct, giving me a blue screen. It did not allow my SATA Drive to boot, even if I give it #1 priority. After several frustrating days, I gave up. I give this product 1 egg. I could not get it to work.

Other Thoughts: This product must not work with UEFI motherboards.
I emailed Startech, but they did not reply.

4 out of 5 eggsShort Cable/BIOS Setup Required

Pros: Adapter card was recognized. So far so good.

Cons: Included IDE cable is only 12". This is a very short cable that will only reach the bottom shelf drive. Do yourself a favor and get a 24" IDE cable. You can find one here on Newegg.

Some BIOS setup is required. After installed, my computer tried to boot the IDE hard drive, which was not correct, giving me a blue screen. Still figuring it out.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: - Easy installation
- No drivers needed in Windows 7 x64
- No hassle to setup

Cons: - None so far

Other Thoughts: This card worked as expected right out of the box. I didn't have enough room for an SATA optical drive in my newly built PC as I filled it with HDDs. I already owned a good IDE DVD RW drive that I wanted to re-use in the new build so I purchased this add-in card. I configured the jumper on the optical drive to the Master setting. No configuration of the card was necessary.
This card recognized my optical drive. It does not interfere with the operations of my RAID configuration that I use on the system. Great product, easy to use.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Just Fine

Pros: +Easy installation
+Includes an IDE cable if you don't already have one.
+Includes small form backplate if you need it.
+Was automatically recognized by Windows 7

Cons: -A bit expensive

Other Thoughts: I purchased a hard drive back when the tsunami hit Taiwan, but stupidly bought an IDE one because it was one of the cheaper ones. This was also before I knew more about computers. So when I bought the hard drive I didn't know I needed an IDE port on my motherboard. Now that I've updated my motherboard, this IDE drive is inferior, especially when it comes to transfer speeds. So I bought this IDE controller because my new motherboard only has SATA ports.

Lesson: do your research and know the product before you buy it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!!

Pros: This PIC-E card works great! It doesn't do a whole lot expect for providing a IDE connection. That's pretty much it. AND you can boot of of any IDE hard drives if that is something you want or need to do. Overall, this card is simple and it works just fine, so far.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes exactly what it's made for

Pros: *Small
*Reasonably priced
*Effective
*True Plug-n-Play operation
*Includes IDE cable
*Installation could not be simpler
*Includes low-profile mount bracket
*Automatic drive detection and reporting

Cons: After installation and confirmed operation, it would be nice if there were a way to disable the on-screen splash information, but I'm just being nitpicky. It only shows for about 1.5 seconds.

Not a deal-breaker, but documentation does not include pin-out information for the drive-activity light header. The header is mentioned and illustrated, however.

Due to physical aspects of PCI-E cards, it's very easy to partially remove the card from its slot when removing the IDE cable, even after the card has been mounted to the case. Not so much a con, but a heads-up caution for anyone who has to change the IDE cable after card installation.

Other Thoughts: Consider grabbing a longer IDE cable to use with this card; the included cable didn't quite fit between my HDD and optical drive, with case mounting options not allowing them to be placed closer together. There's also the possibility that this card will most likely be sitting lower in your case than onboard IDE motherboard headers, putting it further from the drives than us old-school guys are used to. A 24-inch cable gave me enough reach, and allowed placement for unobstructed airflow.

While building an updated system to replace my mother's hideously slow old rig, I grabbed this card to utilize a 160GB IDE hard drive and a DVD/CD-RW drive I had laying around. It works exactly as expected, even allowing me to clone the old hard drive with GHOST for DOS.

The boot BIOS requires no setup, automatically reporting itself and attached drives to the motherboard, requiring no setup within an already-installed XP operating system. Also plays nice with ASUS' current UEFI BIOS system.

This card will deny power to drives not connected properly to an IDE cable. It is sensitive to master/slave jumper settings and cable connector locations, so be sure to follow any directions for proper cable connections! It hung the system with a splash notice about detecting drives until I changed the cable connectors around.

While not documented with pin-out, the drive activity header was simple enough: A 4-pin header for 2 lights, it is marked as [+- -+] on the circuit board. Considering that orientation probably follows alignment of the 40-pin IDE connector, my first shot at connecting the master drive activity light was successful.
