4 out of 5 eggsFast , but a pain to set up

Pros: Cheap , and fast.
Works good....When you get it working.

Cons: As others have stated , it's a pain to set up (hence the 4 eggs).
I was prepared for this.
Plugged it into my Windows 10 home server to see if windows would pick it up (nope).
Installed drivers from disk (saw device in device manager but wouldn't read any drives).
Uninstalled the drivers , and rebooted.
Downloaded and installed drivers from Rosewill , and it worked.
See other thoughts...

Other Thoughts: After I got it to work , it is working good.
Getting write times with a 4 BAY USB 3.0 enclosure @ an average of 110 MBps (While I have the drives mirrored using Window's Storage Spaces).
It ocassionally dipped below 50 MBps (to be fair , I have MANY folders with many sub-folders in them).

After I got it working , I am happy with it.

BTW , USB 2.0 flash drives averaged around 30+ MBps in it.

1 out of 5 eggsVery troublesome drivers and no XP functionality

Pros: It works in Win7 after getting the drivers from the website.

Cons: I purchased this specifically for Windows XP which it says it supports. I downloaded all supporting drivers from the Rosewill website and could not get any of them to function in XP. The latest ones would get it to appear in the device manager but with an exclamation stating that it wasn't functioning properly. Firmware updates would not work at all in WinXP.
In Win7 I managed to get it working with the latest drivers from the site but the Firmware update still would not work. The older updater would start and just hang without completing the newer one errored saying couldn't find the controller.

Other Thoughts: At this point I have a USB controller that I purchased for a Z170 platform to get USB functionality in Win Xp32 but can't seem to get it working.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works okay, just frustrating to set up

Pros: The price is right, it comes with a low profile bracket, it works (finally) and arrived on time.

Cons: Too bad Windows buggered the install twice by trying to install updated drivers through Windows Update. After removing the card twice to start over I just let Windows install the stock driver. My ASUS boarded machine's dual booting Win 7 Pro x 64 and Ubuntu 14.04LTS now has no device conflicts. Only reason for a one egg deduction is for the "frustration factor," and the fact that the instruction sheet is a bit lacking.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I'll get brave and attempt to update the firmware and drivers later. For now I'm happy that it works, maybe not up to its full potential, but my new usb 3.0 external hdd transfers files faster than usb 2.0. If this one keeps working I'll consider it again for my other pc.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple installation & Excellent performance.

Pros: Greatly packaged and RC-505 was sealed in a Conductive Grid Bag to prevent static from damaging the components.

Connected it to my motherboard, Corsair PSU and installed the drivers on "Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit" from the disc provided. Had no issues.

Recognized my USB 3.0 devices such as the AverMedia LGX (USB 3.0 Only) and other devices right on plug-in.

The speed and performance is very stable and no issues whatsoever. My Avermedia LGX is streaming 1080p60 uncompressed with 0 FPS Drops & Ultra low latency right to my computer's screen through the RC-505.

Cons: I did have a little problem when i first downloaded the Drivers from Rosewill's website which didn't detect the device.
After that, i used the disc that came with the RC-505 and installation was successful.

Other Thoughts: Would recommend this to anyone who doesn't have onboard USB 3.0 ports and needs it .

My PC Specs since 2013

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64
CPU: Intel Core i3 2120
Motherboard: Foxconn H-CUPERTINO2-H61-uA TX (HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1210t)
PSU: Corsair CX430
SSD: Corsair Force Series GT 2.5" 60GB

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well, simple and reliable

Pros: It hasn't had any problems in about 1 year of always-on use.
Rosewill always seems to deliver exceptional value.

Cons: There was some initial confusion about drivers and getting it recognized by Windows 7, but that was solved before long. In this case the driver on the CD worked rather than the newer, downloadable drivers.

Other Thoughts: It was the perfect upgrade for an older PC that developed a problem with the on-board USB 2.0 controller.
Of course the motherboard BIOS doesn't allow for booting from USB devices through an add-on like this.
Having a USB 3 interface doesn't magically make a drive any faster, and the USB 3 flash drives I've tested it with weren't designed for a high enough bandwidth to test the maximum transfer speed of this card, but because it uses a common NEC/Renesas controller chip it's likely that the PCIe x1 slot would be the limiting factor there.

1 out of 5 eggsNot recognized on either of 2 systems

Pros: Good price. Good specs

Cons: Did not work.

Other Thoughts: Not recognized by windows. Tried on 2 different systems - Win 8.1 and Win 10. Neither would find the card. Driver CD installation not recognized. Wasted 2 hours finding and installing newer drivers with no difference. Power was supplied to the USB 3 device, but windows saw neither the device nor the USB card.

Returned for a refund. Will try another brand.

1 out of 5 eggsDriver issues with OS and system

Pros: Unknown: Can't get it to work.

Cons: Rosewill. The card arrived, and I've tried to get it to work on multiple systems. The drivers may or may not successfully install (depending on the version of the driver); however as Rosewill uses an "install" program (rather than allowing the OS in pick an install location) this presents problems. One driver install package had an error message stating that it needed run as administrator. (It was installed from administrator account, run as administrator). If you get a later version of the install, it includes a update for the bios on the card. HOWEVER: There is no read-me as what the user is to do. (Chicken and egg problem: does the driver install first or the bios update?) Rosewill is of NO help. I sent them an email for support; received an automated response (one week ago) and no followup. Automated response: "Our estimated response time is currently 1-2 business".

Other Thoughts: In short: Look for a system compatibility list (there is none) or someone that has already stated that "it works on system X with operating system Y" before I would consider purchasing. Now I have two unused cards. As others have stated; this uses a non-standard chip-set: You are dependent on Rosewill to provide drivers THAT WILL INSTALL AND WORK for YOUR system and OS.

It would be nice if Newegg (and others) would state that they use a non-standard install for the device drivers.

1 out of 5 eggsWIn10 will not recognize

Pros: lack of USB hub causes drop out of USB3.0 drives into

Cons: but drivers , very serious problem with WIN driver for this card while WIN 7 worked quite fine. Actually no Win transition driver exists .

Other Thoughts: failure to work , so bought a Inateck PCIe card that works like charm including the USB3 hub.
