2 out of 5 eggsNot good enough on Win7 64 bit

Pros: It works for a while.

Cons: I have the same problem Matthew has. The communications stop after a while, It sometimes fails after 20 minutes, and sometimes runs for 24 hours. Sometimes after waking from sleep it will be dead, sometimes not.

Other Thoughts: I have Win7 pro 64 bit.

I tried every which way to get and install drivers. It still will die after a while. Twice I got a BSOD when installing.

As Matthew said, using Device Manager to disable then enable the port will fix it for a while. You must close the port first for this to have an effect. Rebooting will also get it going.

I have an RC-301 two port PCI card that has worked fine for a couple of years. I will get another.

2 out of 5 eggsOS recognized but...

Pros: To get these installed all I did was load a new windows 7 64bit OS and do all the OS updates before any driver installs. Recognized just fine. Couldn't get the card to work any other way with any other drivers mentioned in the comments below.

Cons: I got the OS to recognize the ports but couldn't ever get any peripheral to be recognized connected to any of the COM ports. I rechecked everything I could.

Other Thoughts: I ended up going to a cheap USB to serial solution.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks in Win764Bit

Pros: Works great. Instead of following protocol on a new build and installing drivers then installing OS updates do the opposite. After OS updates installed they are all there for the most part. I had to go into device manager and right click on an unknown device and update the driver searching via updates for one of them.
I am putting these cards into 20 Point of Sale register builds in the near future if all goes well with this initial 1 month test. So much better then a USB to Serial solution. I am hoping it is dependable through the years. These will be put to the test in my builds!

Cons: At first I tried all the drivers from V1.0 to V1.2 from their website. I then went off and searched for the Syba SD-PEX15022 2 connector drivers and They actually worked if I searched for the drivers myself through update driver in device manager. I reinstalled the OS from some messups with other things and decided to let the OS with all updates try and figure it out these Serial connections which it did after the first 50 OS updates.

Other Thoughts: I will report back if anything happens. If no report than you can safely say I am happy and all is working well with no hiccups.

4 out of 5 eggsWindow 7 32

Pros: Low profile design, performs well, recognized by windows 7

Cons: Not really a con but windows control panel device shows 4 ports when I only installed the 2 ports.

Other Thoughts: Had no problems installing drivers. It befuddles me how so many had problems...

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with Win7 HP

Pros: None

Cons: Does not work with Win7 64 bit. I tried multiple PC at work and all freeze during Bios POST. All PC are HP model. Seems like the MOSchip devices are not supported by some HP boards. I tried the Syba SD-PEX15022 (also with MOSchip) with same results.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

2 out of 5 eggsIssues with Win7 64-bit

Pros: Installed easily enough. I did not see any BSOD as other reviewers have noted.

Cons: The card would simply stop working. No data would be sent out or received by any ports on the card. Programs would not report any errors on opening or closing the ports. Device Manager would not report any problems.

If I rebooted the PC or disabled and re-enabled the ports in Device Manager, the card would start working again for a while. I had the port fail in the middle of a comm session after successfully opening and communicating with the port.

Other Thoughts: I didn't realize I had a problem until I delivered the system to my customer and all the hardware was connected and started seeing issues. So, it is possible that there is something wrong with this specific card, but I don't have the option of swapping it out with another to see if the problem goes away. I also didn't have the opportunity to test it with another OS to see if the problem was only related ton Win7-64.

1 out of 5 eggsNo Win 7 Pro 64 bit for me

Pros: Great price and easy install for adding 2 to 4 DB9 ports to todays PC.

Cons: Sadly I could not get these to work with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit like some of the other reviewers have.

As of 09/20/12 I purchased two of these cards for a complete new build to get at least 6 DB9 ports to run some old laser timing equipment.

On a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit fully updated I tried installing the drivers from the provided disc, during the install the computer kept crashing with a BSOD. I went to Rosewill's website and downloaded both the 1.0 and 1.2 drivers. The 1.0 driver gave me the same result of crashing upon install and BSOD the 1.2 driver would install but the ports would be disabled in the hardware manager claiming there was no driver installed. After contacting Rosewill they forwarded me to the chipset manufacture ASIX where I downloaded their revision v2.0.0.1 driver that upon installing crashed the computer and BSODed.

Other Thoughts: All in all I think these cards at their price point were worth a try, I see a couple other reviews that say they work with Windows 7 64 bit but I could not get their drivers to work with mine.

I am upgrading a computer that is used for a laser timing system that some time uses up to 6 DB9 ports so in my new build I needed to make sure to accommodate the old hardware. The computer itself was an OLD gaming rig but now that we have the money we wanted to get something much more modern, smaller for portability, lower power consumption, and lower heat.

These cards would have been great if I could have gotten them to work but looks like I will have to try a more expensive version, oh well it was worth a shot.

BTW Newegg ROCKS, I RMAed the cards and got my refund that I can put towards the next one.

THANKS!!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me on Linux

Pros: Works for me fine. Linux sees this as a ST16650V2 and the plain vanilla 8250/16550 driver works great. Just remember to compile your kernel for more than 4 total serial ports.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Work - Win 7 64

Pros: None

Cons: 1st board received - could not load drivers
Called technical support. Went through uninstall and try to install - no luck. Was told board was bad. After working through RMA details was told that Roswill has problems with the RC-305E and the driver for Windows 7 - 64 bit systems. Many do not not work!

Received the 2nd board and the exact same problem! Tech support was no help. Escalated to Customer Support Manager who admitted significant problems with Windows 7 - 64 and their needing a new driver not yet created.

This is a known issue to Rosewill

I have will be given credit for the unit, but my wasted time and return of the first product far exceeds the cost of the unit, $24.95.

Other Thoughts: Until this driver issue is fixed I would recommend that Rosewill and Newegg.com remove the Operating Systems Supported: "Windows 7 64 bit" statement from their product listings
