4 out of 5 eggsWorks Win 7 x64

Pros: Despite them not being a standard on many motherboards anymore there are still a lot of devices that require a parallel port - We still use an old Zebra thermal printer at work -- when upgrading the shipping computer we needed parallel port to communicate with the printer --- Install was painless -- in machine running 24/7 since last year so --- yeah -- the pros are that it worked

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: they should not list Win 8 as a supported OS - though that might be Newegg not Rosewill's fault ---

2 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with Windows 8.1

Pros: Nice looking card, fits well in PCIe slot.

Cons: After installing in a new HP Pavilion desktop running Windows 8.1, the computer could not see Epson LQ-570 Dot Matrix printer, even though printer would make some noises whenever PC was restarted. Rosewill tech support says they do not have drivers for Windows 8.1 and no idea when they might be released. Drivers for the printer are built in to Windows Vista/7/8.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with Windows 8 using Hewlett Packard Laserjet 6P

Pros: It worked LOL!

Cons: The setup Application files were not able to run in Windows 8

Other Thoughts: Through-out my interim using Windows7x64, I have used many cards to make my printer work and were all useless. I wasn't able to use my HP Laserjet 6p for about 2 and half years and refused to sell / throw it away / donate it because it was still working plus I had 2 brand new toner cartridges. In December 2012, I completely upgraded my computer with a new motherboard etc .. in preparation to to install Windows 8. I dusted my HP LaserJet 6p and decided to give it another shot making this my last final attempt.

I installed the card and booted up my computer and hoped to see the "New Hardware Detected" window (making it easier) but I did not. So I went to the device manager and saw that Windows detected the card (Parallel Port) but had a little yellow (?). I think we have all seen this at one point. I downloaded the latest drivers for Windows 8 off the Rosewill website and browsed for for the driver from the Device Manager. Browsing for the file resulted in a blank folder and for some reason it wasn't seeing the drivers. The folder was not empty because I saw the files under normal Windows 8 viewing conditions. So I decided to download the previous version of the drivers from the Rosewill website and the same thing happened; the folder was showing up blank. It didn't give me the option to view ALL FILES as sometimes the files show up that way. It was clear it was looking for specific driver file. The first thing that came to my mind was ...daym here we go again and was headed to Craigslist to put my HP LaserJet 6p up for sale but...

I then decided to let Windows 8 (via update) decide the best possible solution; it didn't find any drivers. Lastly, I right clicked on the Parallel Port > Update Driver Software > Browse my Computer for Driver Software > Let me pick from a list of Drivers on my Computer > and selected Standard / Generic port types > Model > Printer Port and named the Parallel Port LPT3. I then realized that I was getting somewhere LoL! At this point my HP LaserJet 6p was already connected and plugged in from when I booted the computer. Additionally, I checked under Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers and VOILA my HP LaserJet 6p was already detected and was listed. Finally the moment of truth, printing the TEST PAGE.

I am happy to report that the TEST PAGE printed fine, and I printed a couple of other documents that I need for work and all is good! I didn't need to install the drivers that Rosewill provided because Windows 8 had generic drivers built in. Additionally, I forgot to mention that under regular Windows 8 viewing conditions the Rosewill Setup Application files in both driver folders that I downloaded did NOT run. It said it wasn't compatible with my system. I expected the Windows 7 drivers telling me that but not the Windows 8 drivers from Rosewill.

I will update this review in the next couple of months if anything goes wrong but it looks like its a solid printer installation. My printer seems like its indes

5 out of 5 eggsGood for legacy printer support

Pros: Worked fine in a Dell OptiPlex 390 SFF, which no longer includes a parallel port. A low-profile PCI bracket is included in the box, which is on the product picture but not on the product description.

Cons: As stated in other reviews, the default parallel port for the card is LPT3. You can change it to whatever port you want through the driver interface in Device Manager, though.

Other Thoughts: Ugh. Didn't realize Dell stopped putting parallel ports on their newer systems. Had to scramble to come up with this card to support legacy ticket printers at a remote site. These cards were cheaper than buying USB to parallel adapters and gender changers.

5 out of 5 eggsAs advertised - it works Great!

Pros: Small form factor, easy to install & configure. Works great.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Used to add a 2nd parallel port to drive an old HP Laser Jet that still has plenty of life in it.

5 out of 5 eggsWow! It works on EVGA x58 sli 3 MoBo

Pros: Worked Right out of the box with parallel port printer hp 4200 laser jet

Cons: you may have to mess around with port configuration but its fairly simple unless you have no knowledge of ports

Other Thoughts: its says 2.5 Mbps but i think it really means 2.5MBps
(capital B). Make sure your MoBo has a X1 usable pcie port (not obstructed by wide Vid Card)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: I've had a large HP LaserJet printer connected to this in a business environment for a long time, in a computer that is on 24x7 serving a small business for printer sharing. It has been flawless.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: You can't go wrong with this.

1 out of 5 eggsDoorstop

Pros: Win7 detected card just fine, and downloaded drivers for it. Then the old HP 712C was detected, and Windows loaded drivers for it as well. Easy enough...so far...

Cons: No print. Nada. If I sent a print job to the HP, I'm told that the print spooler service is not running (it certainly was before the job was sent). Card installs at LPT3, but can be changed in Device Manager to LPT1, 2, or 3. No matter...there was no setting that would allow the card to function as intended.

Other Thoughts: Total waste of my time. Looks like I'll have to upgrade to that USB printer after all.
