3 out of 5 eggsIt worked good... but not the firewire.

Pros: This is exactly what I need for my PC. Great selection of ports for the price.

Cons: The firewire ports does not work anymore. I have other firewire PCI cards that work just fine but for some reason the ones on the Vantec don't anymore. I tried the device manager but nothing seems to tell me why they don't work.

Other Thoughts: The USB ports still work well and will continue to use this card in aother PC of mine until it no longer runs.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Controller!

Pros: Ubuntu Linux Compatibility:

- Ubuntu 12.04, will work however on my motherboard on every reboot you must unplug everything from the ports in order to boot without error.

- I did notice some degradation of the signal from my usb sound card in which music will sometimes slow down, but it's really negligible.

Window 8 Compatibility:

Absolutely 100% Compatible.

Cons: None other than what was mentioned.

5 out of 5 eggsproblem free firewire solution

Pros: This is a nice solid device. I haven't had any issues since I installed it last winter. I did it essentially for the firewire ports but having extra USBs is never a bad idea for someone like me. The back of my computer tower looks like and octopi gang-bang.

Cons: none

4 out of 5 eggsGood, but don't buy for Audio!

Pros: Solid!

Cons: Can't tell if it's a VIA chip unless you zoom in on the pics!

Other Thoughts: This is a decent item, just don't buy it for audio use! Plugged my 610 in and got nothing but cracks. Looked at the chip and turns out this is VIA - apparently not all Vantec is TI. Switched to a TI and my 610 runs flawlessly now.

4 out of 5 eggsKeep Some Things In Mind

Pros: This just works. I plugged it into a PCI slot, flipped on my computer and Windows 7 recognized it and installed the drivers without any effort on my part. My wireless keyboard receiver and mouse both work great plugged into it.

Cons: While this card does work, keep some things in mind:

* The card requires a free 4-pin Molex power plug and is not fully powered by the PCI slot.

* The "internal" USB and 1394 (FireWire) ports are NOT 9-pin internal ports but actual external USB and 1394 ports located on the inside of the card.

* The external ports are a very tight fit; be careful ordering if the slots on the back of your computer are oddly shaped or particularly thin.

Probably all of the above could have been discovered if I'd looked more closely at the pictures, but keep these things in mind so you don't make the mistakes I did.

4 out of 5 eggsOk Card

Pros: Got this to add USB 2.0 and 1394a to my Tyan K8SE workstation board.

Cons: VIA Chipset.
Will NOT work with pro-audio or devices that demand consistent transfers. My external HD will drop in speeds just like USB. The TI 1394a chipset I use on my recording rig does not do this.

Other Thoughts: I was wishing this would work with my pro-audio gear, not for recording but for controlling/monitoring. It drops signal and has all sorts of pops and clicks even during playback on M-Audio ProjectMix I/O. Looks like I will need to get a 1394 card with a TI chipset.
USB works great, that was my primary purpose.

5 out of 5 eggsQuick and easy! It works prefectly!

Pros: Where to start? Easy installation, drivers installed by turning on my computer, works great! REALLY happy about my purchase!

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: For the price and the ease of installing this card, you cannot go wrong! Keeps an old computer going for just a bit longer.
