I am assuming this does not come with a Processor correct? We would still need to purchase it but it already has the motherboard?

Yes, you will need to purchase a processor.  If has the motherboard and also includes hear sink.  If you purchase a retail processor you will end up with an extra heat sink (you must use the heat sink that comes with the rack mount system due to size)

Question 2

Do you need to get drive mounting brackets with this case?
(Like you do with Dells?)

Accepted Answer

For 3.5 inch disks no. For 2.5" disks yes, it's about $8 here (2x 2.5" fit in the bracket, INCLUDING the big 15mm 2TB 2.5" drives).
You could, in a pinch, just screw one screw in from the bottom of the case to a single 2.5" drive and not use the bracket.

What do I need to mount this in our server rack?

If you only have a 2-post rack, you will not need the rails. This chassis is light enough to mount by the front tabs alone.

Question 5

Fans seem to rev up and are louder than I would have thought is there any tips on any settings for them?

When the case is first powered on the fans should go to 100% utilization then slowly spin down.  If they are not reducing speed after that then there may be a problem with a component on your motherboard overheating or a bios setting under the power options.  Even under normal operations 1U chassis fans will make a considerable amount of noise.  I only hope you're not trying to use this on your desk and it is racked in a data center somewhere as that is what the case is designed to do.

Question 6

Has anyone put an additional 2 port or 4 port NIC in this? If so, which card did you use?

Yes, Supermicro makes a 2-port (AOC-SGP-i2) and 4-port (AOC-SGP-i4) card for this chassis.  The card is built on the Intel i350 chipset.

Question 7

Does Newegg have compatible memory in 8GB sticks? The Supermicro website lists some Hynix memory that Newegg doesn't seem to carry, is there other memory that Newegg carries or should I go elsewhere for memory?

what limits this to a 4th gen core i3?  I could not use a 4th gen i5 even though it is the same socket type and only 84 watts?

Accepted Answer

They only take 4th-gen Core i3 because those CPU's support ECC. Core i5, on the other hand, do NOT support ECC. As such, it does not support it. Hint: You do not want to run a server without ECC.
