2 out of 5 eggsFlimsy

Pros: Slim and works

Cons: Flimsy

Other Thoughts: To be honest I wish I spent a few bucks more on the better models. I wanted to save space with these but have regretted it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The rails are nice and smooth. They are very sturdy and feel like they will hold much more then the case I have attached.

Cons: The instructions are very poor. The nuts and bolts to mount to the rails are not sufficient, however they do accept standard bolts.

HINT: When using a 4U case, center the rails between the top and bottom units (between units 2-3)

1 out of 5 eggsWHAT?

Pros: It worked, after waiting 2 months to order it because of perpetual backorder status from Newegg

Cons: I have 4 rosewill rack mount cases, and I finally was able to order the rails. I ordered one to verify fit. Now I can't order any more? Really? Wow Rosewill you are the Harry Houdini of availability. This blows because the rail I ordered to test worked perfectly. Now I have 4 rack mount cases and only one can be rack mounted.

Other Thoughts: I can't believe that Rosewill won't let me order the rails for the cases I bought from them. This has to define poor customer service. You bought a car.. thank you, you want parts? Sorry we're not selling parts I suggest you check some third party sales website (e-bay) or the local boneyard. This is far from optimal.

3 out of 5 eggsNice for the price but a few dings

Pros: Strong, well-lubricated (messy to install but not a negative in the long run). Length-adjustable to fit any rack. Elongated mounting slots vs. individual mounting holes means these rails fit any rackmount case.

Cons: Slides do not have a locking mechanism that locks the slides in the fully extended position. This means that it is impossible to get the server onto the rails without a helper holding the rails in the extended position. Also, supplied mounting hardware is pretty skimpy. I have a very common Norco 4U case. I had to use the larger supplied screws to mount the rails to the case, meaning I had to come up with some of my own small nuts/washers/bolts to attach the rails to the rackmount ears. Not that big of a deal since I have hundreds of nuts/bolts/screws on-hand from my projects over the years. But would be a big deal if I didn't have those parts. Would mean a run to Lowes or HomeDepot.

Other Thoughts: Decent value for the money, but few a few bucks more you can do better.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Construction is solid.

Cons: These rosewill rails were purchased for RSV-4000 chassis's. While they technically fit, it has become obvious to me that this chassis was never intended to be rack mounted. The rails install on the middle of the chassis. WAT. Further, this 1U rail has 4 holes, of which only two align with standard Dell-style 3 square racks. WAT. Further, the handles and tabs of RSV-4000 consume a little bit more than 4 Us. WAT. This 4U server + rails thus consumes 5Us and doesn't align at all. Inner rails must be aligned properly, otherwise it won't sit flush. Actually, as far as the RSV-4000 goes, I had to remove the handles entirely just to close the door on the netshelter.

Other Thoughts: I don't expect top-dollar features for bottom-dollar prices, however, this product gives me sad face. I am returning the rails and letting these servers sit on shelves ( it's consuming 5U's anyways).

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
If you have the RSV-4000 chassis, then we can send you updated handles that will be shorter and will fit in your setup. Please contact the Rosewill support team either via phone at 800-575-9885 or via email at techsupport@rosewill.com so that we can assist you with your issue.
Thanks,

4 out of 5 eggsRosewill Rails

Pros: See other comments. Best way to mount and unmount is to pull out rails.

I presume you have already mounted the rails to the side of your server / workstation chassis with the screws and/or standard mounting hardware.

Place the "male" rails on the side of the chassis and glide into the extended female rails that are mounted in your rack. The unit will only slide in so far. Then you will have to take your fingers and trigger some extension locks so they snap in so that your rails will continue to slide in all the way.

If you have very heavy equipment, enlist the help of a second human being to lift up or hold up the chassis while the racks are connected and fully extended and you are triggering the extension locks. You could have a bad equipment accident or stress failure if you don't.

Cons: Can't seem to figure out how I would get this product to mount my various server chassis boxes fully flush inside my APC NetShelter 25U box. Oh well, the exterior doors still close and can lock if I need to so I guess I can't complain.

Other Thoughts: Nothing else really. I think it's a decent product for a fair price.

5 out of 5 eggsQulality Rails

Pros: Very smooth action, high load rating, supports can be customized, great value

Cons: Instructions were low quality. Oh and the grease on the rails gets all over your hands when you install it, but that's not really a con.

Other Thoughts: I had to customize the supports to fit my application - a 16" deep rack designed for short audio equipment. I utilized 3 of these and they work great. I have the Rosewill RSV-L4000's and when all the way extended they sag a little bit, but no worries.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks, terrible instructions

Pros: It works with my Rosewill 4u server chassis
It fits perfectly in my rack

Cons: The instructions were a blurred photo copy. It didn't have a "common sense" construction to install it without referencing the instructions. The portions that were legible didn't provide enough detail about what screws are meant for what areas

Other Thoughts: I had to get this as it would fit my Rosewill server chassis. For $40, I'd expect to get better instructions. After all, it's a bunch of formed metal that probably cost at most $10 to manufacture.

3 out of 5 eggsWell that was fun

Pros: Solid and smooth once they're installed. Seems to hold my 4U server alright - definitely isn't going anywhere when pushed in, bows a little when fully extended but I don't feel like it's going to snap off or anything.

The brackets that mount to the posts are separate pieces and adjustable on the rest of the rail, so you can mount the rails in just about any rack. I have an older heavy gauge AV rack with the posts 19" apart in the depth and not adjustable, so these worked by mounting all brackets pointing backwards so none of them collided.

Cons: Thing was a PITA to properly install. I had the thing out of my rack and back in twice before I figured out that I had inadvertently moved the little sections with the ball bearings in the middle rail section. If you move them back, you can't get your case into the rails and it seems like the rails take up too much width.

I found the easiest way to get the case in once the rails were installed was to pull the middle rail all the way out, move the ball bearing sections to the front of the middle rail, and then carefully insert the case with the rails into the ball bearing part. This lets the case roll about halfway back smoothly, and then you can just gently push back firmly to set the rails all the way back. Once that's done, everything is in line and all is well.

Other Thoughts: For the price, they're decent enough and heavier duty than the other "universal" rails like the StarTech ones, which have a lower rated capacity. I'd still be careful with a bigger case when the rails are fully extended, though.

Good buy overall.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks in an open telecom rack

Pros: 1) Easy installation. A few screws to fasten inner rails to the PC/server case, a few screws to fasten mounting brackets to equipment rack, and a few screws to fasten outer rails to mounting brackets.

2) Smooth action. No grinding or binding

3) Supports several different mounting options

4) Rosewill has a downloadable manual on their website for the RSV-R26 that’s got more pictures than the installation guide that ships with the product.

Cons: Can’t really think of any…

Other Thoughts: I have a telecom rack with no internal frame or posts, so I had to mount these sliding rails on the front and rear vertical equipment mounting rails in my rack. The rear vertical rails in my rack are only 7 inches behind the front vertical rails, as opposed to two or more feet of separation in a deeper rack. But, these sliding rails seem pretty strong and everything is working well so far. I’m happy with these sliding rails and just bought two more sets.
