5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: Cheap, efficient use of space, expands number of hard drives, easy access to hard drives

Cons: Front bezel a little hard to get to fit

Other Thoughts: I had to remove the front bezel of my computer because the bezel on the cage is a little wider than the rest of the cage so the lip that it created was catching on the front bezel. After some fiddling got it to work.

Some have complained about the heaftyness, or lack thereof, of the drive trays. They are more like drive rails than trays and as long as you are careful you shouldn't have problems.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: I needed more hotswap bays and found this. Along with a new SATA PCIe card I now have 4 more bays. It's pretty much plug and play. As others have mentioned, it feels like cheap plastic, but the bays slot in nicely and don't catch; you don't need to force anything.

The big fan at the back definitely pulls air nicely; drives in this thing are 2C cooler than my other internal drives (and that's with all 4 bays and all disks running building a RAID array, compared to a mostly idle disk with plenty of space around it).

I put 4*4TB Seagate drives in it and they all span up and were recognised within seconds. So far, so good!

Cons: One of the LEDs doesn't light up (top bay). I'm not overly concerned about this.

The bay, itself, is _large_. It was so tight to fit that I had to remove the front cover of my machine, fit the bay, then force the cover back over. It couldn't be any larger and still fit.

The connectors are on the wrong side. This may sound like a triviality, but it's pretty big. The connectors are away from the opening of most mini-tower PCs. If you're lucky and have access from both sides then you may be OK, but otherwise you need to plug in the 4 SATA cables and the power cable before you slide the drive into place. Because you'll never plug in a cable once it's there! This also means the cables may run close to motherboard components.

Other Thoughts: This isn't enterprise grade equipment, not by a long chalk. But it seems to be perfeclty adequate for enthusiasts and maybe even for small-office setups.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: This is so superior to iStar BPN-DE340SS. I know you have trays with this and not with iStar. So What!!! At least it works where iStar is dead and this is working.

Cons: No complaints

Other Thoughts: The coiling fan is the best i have seen on this types of units plus having the good quality sata cables to come with the unit. The iStar units i have own which are many, the back planes will fail after a year of service. Just got tired of paying their high cost of ownership.

4 out of 5 eggsMy drives are caged

Pros: This is one of the cheapest hot swap drive cages I have been able to find. The fan keeps the drives cool my WD Reds are never more then 32C and they were running about 38C when they were deep inside the case. Something I noticed on the bays, they seem to be setup to hold 2.5" drives as well. Nice extra feature.

Cons: It is made out of plastic but it was what I was expecting when I bought it. It was a little hard to fully insert into my case as the face plate caught on the edges of the case. A little bit of sanding corrected that. Also, as others have said, the ports are on the wrong side. I needed to plug all of the ports in first and then put the cage in the case. If I did not do that first, I would have had a heck of a time plugging them in next to the motherboard. That being said since I connected all of the ports, I will never need to do that again.

Other Thoughts: The hard drive lights are a bit weird, at least for me. They are on all the time unless there is activity and then they blink off and they are a very bright blue.

I replaced the fan before installing since others have said it was loud so I don't know if that is true. It has a standard three pin fan header

All in all, not a bad cage for the price and it keeps me out of my home server. Most of my cons are just nitpicking.

5 out of 5 eggsRosewill SATA/SAS Drive Cage

Pros: A convenient, consumer grade drive cage. Definite advantage over in-the-case drive installation. Easy drive swapping. LED lights indicate which drive is in use. Space saving: install 4 3.5" drives in only 3 5.25" drive bays. Fan helps keep drives cool. Inexpensive compared to similar alternatives.

Cons: Drive sleds are all plastic. Might not stand up to hard use. Power and SATA ports are on the wrong side of the unit. I use a "Y" molex connector attached before installing into the case to give access to power supply cable. I also attach the SATA cables to the unit before installing the cage into the case. the unit is deep so might interfere in smaller cases. These are somewhat minor inconveniences vs. the overall value of the cage.

Other Thoughts: I have 4 of these units installed in two servers and love them. I also have another brand without removeable sleds and realize that purchase was a mistake. With the Rosewill cages, swapping out one drive for another is painless. With the cage without sleds, it is a major undertaking. I will purchase more of this model to replace them. A definite keeper for the home user.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent hot swap bay!

Pros: Its the cheapest 4 in 3 bay hotswap bay I could find. Its not the best, but for the price you cant beat it.

Cons: I was planning on getting two more of these, but it looks like newegg discontinued it.

4 out of 5 eggsJust OK

Pros: Cheap. & It works. Put it in my WHS 2011 In a coolermaster 690 case. It does what i need. but, if I was to do it again I would spend more.. & get a metal one.

Cons: One of the LED lights for the drives don't work. Had to change the fan ( Too Noisy)

Other Thoughts: Cheap sometimes cost's more!

3 out of 5 eggsDecent product but needs better QA/QC

Pros: Same drive cages as used in RSV-L4411 server/rackmount case. Good rear layout, can run off 1 molex connector (provides two for redundant power supplies (i.e., when used in server cases)

Cons: QA/QC needs work. One drive sled came without one of the metal leaf springs that hold the sled against the side of the cage. The sled fortunately works without the missing leaf spring.

Other Thoughts: Inspect the unit carefully when you get it. The unit appeared fine until I pulled out the fourth sled to finally load a drive into it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat price

Pros: Low price when on sale.

Fan is relatively quiet, full size and easily replaceable.

SATA cables included.

Matches my black case nicely.

Cons: The HDD trays are plastic and a bit flimsy so some care is needed. It feels like if you jerked them open and shut without care you might break them.

Other Thoughts: Was looking at different options for my modest NAS, this one caught my eye.

When this is on sale, it's a great deal. Get a case with 9 or more external 5.25 bays and pop 3 of these in. Cheaper than similar cases with hot swaps built in.

Then get a MB with 10 SATA III connections like the ASRock Extreme6. Get one addon card with 4 SATA connections and you're good to go, you have a spare for an SSD and DVD/BluRay drive if needed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Price!

Pros: Great build quality and the price is hard to beat

Cons: Not tool-less trays

Other Thoughts: I have several Rosewill server cases with and without the hot-swap cages. When these came on sale for $30 free ship I decided to change out some of my non-hot-swap cages for these. It would be really great if Rosewill made tool-less trays for this cage.
