5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Cage!

Pros: -Comes with SATA cables and screws
-Fan included
-Price is affordable

Cons: Haven't found any yet! The slide out trays may seem a little cheap or flimsy, but if you use common sense and handle it gently there should be no issues!

Other Thoughts: This was a perfect fit in a 4u rack mount Logisys case with a raid 5 setup. Installation was a snap. The only thing I changed was the air flow direction of the included fan. Its default setup is to exhaust the heat from the hard drives. I tried that for awhile and then I switched the fan around to blow on the hard drives and it keeps them alot cooler this way.

I plan on buying a few more of these for the servers I manage.

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless

Pros: 4-in-3, simple yet effective design. Trays slide in and out without much effort. A big plus is compatibility with the RSV-L4000 server case and NZXT cases.

Compatible with 2.5" and 3.5" drives. Only needs 2 IDE power connectors to power all four SATA drives.

The 120mm fan is changeable. I used a Noctua NF-S12A FLX for silent operation, plus it already has a short cable so there isn't much extra slack lying around your case (nothing a little zip tie treatment won't fix, however).

CHEAP! Other backplanes of this size with similar features run much more expensive than this.

Cons: It's made primarily of plastic, but that's to keep the overall price as low as possible.

Other Thoughts: Used in an NZXT Phantom. So yes, it is cut to fit tool-less cases, even with guide rails.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: Price
basic features at a basic price.

Cons: LED cable could have been routed better

Other Thoughts: Installed two of these into an Antec 900 case with a Gigabyte 990FX main logic running ESX 5.1. One of these is connected to a PERC 6 raid card (4 SATA drives, RAID 5), the other is connected to the SATA ports on the mainboard supporting 5tb drives. No operational issues with either.

Mounted this with the drives flush to the front of the case to leave more room (normally they are recessed in about 1/2 inch).

Other reviews have complained that the connectors are on the wrong side (motherboard side) making it hard to reach the connectors once installed. The advantage to this is that the fans stick out the farthest. If those had been on the motherboard side, there would be a greater chance of hitting the main board.

INSTALL NOTE: There is a cable for the LEDs that runs from the back of the unit to the front. This cable has some slack and can snag things on install/removal (tabs on the case drive slots). You can temporarily pull this cable into the enclosure to take up this slack (pull the trays).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for adding additional HDD space

Pros: - Affordable
- Aesthetic
- Fan keeps HDDs cool
- Does exactly what you would need it to do

Cons: - Plastic
- Consumes a lot of real-estate in the case

Other Thoughts: This thing is awesome for adding that little touch to the front of a case. If you are often adding or removing drives from a computer, I highly recommend this for you if you have the expansion bays. More often than not, those 5.25" bays are a waste of space. Great way to put that space into something usable.

The only downside is the amount of space that this thing takes up inside the case. As the fan on the back adds a good 2" being extended into the case, it can be a tight fit in most mid-size cases. Had I not carefully managed the cabling in my server, this thing would have crunched into the RAM on the mother board.

4 out of 5 eggsRecommended!

Pros: Solid Construction
Fan cooled
Simple to install
Great price

Cons: Although its solid construction it would be nice if it were made completely of metal.

Other Thoughts: I built a home server to tinker with a few things and learn networking. Because I picked up a 24U server rack with a server case I wanted to put 4 of my 8 drives in a hot swap bay. I saw the prices of the higher quality bays and thought that I wasnt going to use the hot swap daily so I didn't view the all metal construction important enough.

This drive bay has worked really well and I use it about once every two weeks with my offsite backup drives. they are durable and just work well. This is perfect if you want to add hot swap bays to your computer or server and dont want to pay more for it.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: Cheap, efficient use of space, expands number of hard drives, easy access to hard drives

Cons: Front bezel a little hard to get to fit

Other Thoughts: I had to remove the front bezel of my computer because the bezel on the cage is a little wider than the rest of the cage so the lip that it created was catching on the front bezel. After some fiddling got it to work.

Some have complained about the heaftyness, or lack thereof, of the drive trays. They are more like drive rails than trays and as long as you are careful you shouldn't have problems.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: This is so superior to iStar BPN-DE340SS. I know you have trays with this and not with iStar. So What!!! At least it works where iStar is dead and this is working.

Cons: No complaints

Other Thoughts: The coiling fan is the best i have seen on this types of units plus having the good quality sata cables to come with the unit. The iStar units i have own which are many, the back planes will fail after a year of service. Just got tired of paying their high cost of ownership.

4 out of 5 eggsMy drives are caged

Pros: This is one of the cheapest hot swap drive cages I have been able to find. The fan keeps the drives cool my WD Reds are never more then 32C and they were running about 38C when they were deep inside the case. Something I noticed on the bays, they seem to be setup to hold 2.5" drives as well. Nice extra feature.

Cons: It is made out of plastic but it was what I was expecting when I bought it. It was a little hard to fully insert into my case as the face plate caught on the edges of the case. A little bit of sanding corrected that. Also, as others have said, the ports are on the wrong side. I needed to plug all of the ports in first and then put the cage in the case. If I did not do that first, I would have had a heck of a time plugging them in next to the motherboard. That being said since I connected all of the ports, I will never need to do that again.

Other Thoughts: The hard drive lights are a bit weird, at least for me. They are on all the time unless there is activity and then they blink off and they are a very bright blue.

I replaced the fan before installing since others have said it was loud so I don't know if that is true. It has a standard three pin fan header

All in all, not a bad cage for the price and it keeps me out of my home server. Most of my cons are just nitpicking.

5 out of 5 eggsRosewill SATA/SAS Drive Cage

Pros: A convenient, consumer grade drive cage. Definite advantage over in-the-case drive installation. Easy drive swapping. LED lights indicate which drive is in use. Space saving: install 4 3.5" drives in only 3 5.25" drive bays. Fan helps keep drives cool. Inexpensive compared to similar alternatives.

Cons: Drive sleds are all plastic. Might not stand up to hard use. Power and SATA ports are on the wrong side of the unit. I use a "Y" molex connector attached before installing into the case to give access to power supply cable. I also attach the SATA cables to the unit before installing the cage into the case. the unit is deep so might interfere in smaller cases. These are somewhat minor inconveniences vs. the overall value of the cage.

Other Thoughts: I have 4 of these units installed in two servers and love them. I also have another brand without removeable sleds and realize that purchase was a mistake. With the Rosewill cages, swapping out one drive for another is painless. With the cage without sleds, it is a major undertaking. I will purchase more of this model to replace them. A definite keeper for the home user.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent hot swap bay!

Pros: Its the cheapest 4 in 3 bay hotswap bay I could find. Its not the best, but for the price you cant beat it.

Cons: I was planning on getting two more of these, but it looks like newegg discontinued it.
