2 out of 5 eggsUgh... Loud, Heavy and power hungry

Pros: None

Cons: Heavy, didn't fit well in my case. Extremely loud.
sata ports gould have been spaced differently.
Required me to upgrade my powersupply to support it.

Other Thoughts: Would not buy this or reccomend to anybody.

2 out of 5 eggsAnother update...

Pros: -Still built well mechanically

-Still has ball-bearing fan (i took one apart...)

Cons: They keep revising it!!! (see my 2 previous reviews)

The last few times I ordered these I have been happy, but ordered 2 more and now they revised it again...

-NO TEMP/OVERHEATING ALARM! norco didn't even put the buzzer on the board ...

-NO FAN SPEED CONTROL! there is jumpers on the board but they don't do anything!

Other Thoughts: Seems like every other time I order these they have changed something- it always a surprise when you open the box to see what they sent you! pretty annoying actually...

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to previous review...

Pros: Norco seems to have fixed the items I had previously knocked them for, and overall the unit is still well built as it always was:

-FIXED: the fan is now ball-bearing as advertised(sacrificed one and verified) KENON MOTORS KMF08DHHD1B

-FIXED: the fan failure sensor is functional

Also FYI, the new trays have mounting holes for 2.5" drives(don't remember these present on the 'old' trays) but you will need to source your own 'M3' taper-head screws, since the screws included are '6-32' size for 3.5" drives

Cons: The drive trays over the last ~1yr or so no longer have sliding vent covers to block empty trays. Was a nice feature, but can live without it- I just use tape...

Other Thoughts: Probably the best quality hot-swap rack available in this price range, definitely recommend this unit.

If anyone is wondering about the jumper settings for the fan speed and fan-failure sensor(J1 and J2), they are actually documented on the side of the box.
J1: [Pin 1-2=Max Speed] [Pin 2-3=Half Speed]
J2: [Pin 1-2=Enable Alarm] [Pin 2-3=Disable Alarm]

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Appears to be exactly as advertised and then some. This whole enclosure is assembled using philips-head screws, making for very easy fan replacement/maintenance. The circuit boards in the unit are very clean and internal connectors are solid. The SAS ports look good and the board revision on my backplane is V1.2 which I believe should handle 6Gb/s just fine. I'll post more when I get my SAS drives to test it with.

Cons: My only complaint is the lack of documentation, and inconsistent parts. One box came with screws, one didn't (that I can tell) and neither came with any kind of manual. Not a deal breaker, but still strange.

Other Thoughts: I have very high hopes for these cages, they look great. The metal parts aren't super-precision, but they fit well enough and look like they'll have no problem being fully populated with drives.

5 out of 5 eggsNo complaints

Pros: * Fits perfectly
* Handles my 3TB drives
* Only needs 2 power connectors per bay

Cons: * None so far

Other Thoughts: Bought two of these to go in my Norco 4U rackmount case, and they're working great.

5 out of 5 eggsAnother good Norco product

Pros: Exactly what I wanted, SAS hot-swap cage. Sturdy, good design, easy installation.

Cons: SuperMicro makes cooler looking trays.

Other Thoughts: I tend to buy SuperMicro cans over Norco cans because of density, but Norco gear is consistently good. This cage went in a non-Norco can with 4 3TB SAS drives, works perfectly.

2 out of 5 eggsOk, for the price... I guess...

Pros: Hot swap is good.
Performance is as expected, no bios/OS issues

Cons: (Purchased two, so not just a single "defective one")
Green light overbearing (on) blue light dim (activity)
Assembly training issues?
Too few screws in one box, too many in the other (got lucky)
No manual. I see jumpers, and they do....??????

Other Thoughts: I have no idea what the posters are referring to when they said quiet. Both of the units I have sound like a lawnmower starting up. I can near them upstairs. Unfortunately it's not a nice consistent hum either (see next note). They did not really do a good job with ventilation planning, so the fans are working super hard to pull air through very limited ventilation holes. So add on an annoying hissing/sucking sound in addition to the fan noise. They also run about 5-10 degrees hotter than your standard drive carriage in most cases today, so be prepared for that. The green light is also quite bright (always on when a drive is installed) and the blue is quite dim so you have to look pretty closely (activity light). My bays on one of the units were smashed back into the case (1/4" too far), luckily it didn't damaging the unit. The box was in perfect shape, so this was clearly something that happened during assembly. One of the units was missing some screws.

3 out of 5 eggs1 out of 3 has issues

Pros: solid construction
easy to slide in and out
included fans are adequate and keep drives cool

Cons: i ordered 3 of these and 1 of them has a slot/port that doesn't work.
i get consistent read/write errors on my drive when it's in that one slot.
past the 30 day period for newegg to rma it, so i guess i'm going to have to contact the mfr for this one. great...

Other Thoughts: of the three i bought, two are working fine (so far, haven't completely tried one of them). they are solid units but all of that is nullified if it doesn't work properly.
