5 out of 5 eggsI love it!

Pros: After I purchased a dual drive enclosure I realized that what I really needed was raid1. I was manually copying data from one 2tb drive to another. Based on the reviews (and cost) I went with this unit. There were warnings about possible loss of data by using used drives. I backed up all the important stuff to another external drive I had and put my main drive as primary and my copy to drive as secondary. My thought was that the primary would be mirrored over to the secondary – and to my surprise it appears that is exactly what happened. My data was all there under a single drive. I recommend that you back up your data anyway before trying this, but it worked perfectly for me.

Cons: The unit didn't come with an RS232 port as pictured if that is important to you.

Other Thoughts: I found that it was helpful having both eSATA and USB ports. It's a very professional looking unit.

I like the peace of mind knowing that my precious family photos are backup up on two drives.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks in vmware ESXi

Pros: It's ready for RAID 1 right out of the box. Works like a champ in vmware ESXi, no need to buy an expensive RAID controller for redundant vmfs storage! Looks very cool with its LCD and the drive lights only flash during activity.

Cons: Im not certain why the manual is even included with this unit, it's pretty much useless.

Other Thoughts: I can't comment on noise levels because this is stored in my computer rack in my basement. It does take the unit about 10 seconds to boot up, but it's independently switched on and off so you just need to be sure to power it on first. Didn't try RAID 0, but I dont see any performance impact from RAID 1 using this device over a single esata external drive.

5 out of 5 eggsWhere's the 'That Was Easy' button

Pros: -Exceptionally simple to set up and format.
-Solid construction.
-Simple, clean design.
-Faster than the Roadrunner on eSata.
-Drive trays are interchangable with the trays used in Raidon's stand-alone drive enclosures.
-Bright status lcd and power led.

Cons: -Bright status lcd and power led.
-Fan is a little louder fan than I'd expected.

Other Thoughts: When in diskmgmt, instructions say just to click through 'next' until finished. Do it. Don't hurt your brain by attempting to puzzle out the differences between simple and spanned volumes, MBR vs. GPT, etc. Use the diskmgmt defaults and all will be well. I'm using Hitachi 5K3000 - 2TB drives...

5 out of 5 eggspeace of mind

Pros: Nice Look, Solid Case, Easy Setup, Plays nice Gentoo, Ubuntu and RedHat, having both eSATA and USB is a nice option. Temp, Fan Speed and HDD stats avail on front panel.

Cons: lights are a little bright with no option to dim, at least no option that I have found yet. but no big deal, nothing a small strip of electrical tape wont take care of if I want the room dark. (kinda like all the blinky lights anyway)

Other Thoughts: I wasn't looking close enough and used A/V drives in this. 4 Months later, they are still working fine, but have been returning an unusual SMART error code since i installe them. I believe this is because they are A/V drives (my own darn fault) and I am just ignoring until a drive fails.

5 out of 5 eggsNice RAID Drive

Pros: It is hardware RAID.
Easily transportable to another system.
Even Windows XP recognizes it without extra drivers.
eSata & USB 2.0 options.
Very small footprint.
Nice LCD status panel that is much more informative than other RAID enclosures' LED lights.
RAID1 is default. If that's what you are looking for, just pop in two drives and you are done!

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: We have been using a couple of these at my job for extra storage for a while now. Because I like the ones at work so much, I ordered myself one for personal use. It really is a nice device. I see other people's complaint about the trays being flimsy. They aren't server level hot swappable tray quality, but for personal use, I don't think I'll be pulling them out very often.

5 out of 5 eggsI now own 3 of These

Pros: I purchased 1 of these because my 4 port 3ware card was full with 4 2tb hard drives and I was out of space. I added 2 samsung 2tb f4's and it was literally plug & play, as long as you are running raid 1 there is no set up at all. Now I have had 3 of these running for 5 months, all work flawless and it added 2tb of redundant data array with no extra draw on my power supply. Also great because it is portable enough I can take it to work to transfer large files. I now have 3 of these, 1 connected to my work computer, 1 on home computer and 1 on my test computer. All work Flawless with not a single problem to date. Will for sure be buying more!

Cons: USB 3.0 would be nice, I use the esata connector to reach full speed, but USB 3.0 for a quick connection when transporting would be nice. No big deal though since I have never used the USB. Also tested it with raid 0 and does not reach the speeds of a raid card, but does give some speed benefit, but I use these mainly for 2tb Raid 1 for extra data storage and redundancy.

Other Thoughts: As more people acquire larger amounts of data, I see these becoming a necessity between computer builds to quickly add space without any modification. Good Job Raidon, this is a true winner!

5 out of 5 eggsThis RAID ROCKS!

Pros: Great looking, small, fast, GREAT COMPANY!

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: This is a nice unit. The speed is what you would expect for the price - solid performance on par with a single (internal) drive when using eSATA. 10x as fast as using Intel raid on the motherboard!
Someone here complained that there is no extra HDD tray for hot swapping and you can't buy them. Well, I emailed their support in .tw, they forwarded to the USA, and within 2 days I have an extra tray AND a leather carry bag on the way! This is a really great looking unit!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: - Box looks amazing with a nice front panel polish
- Easy to set up (took me 5-10 mins)
- Very compact fits nice in the living room
- Very quite
- Solid feeling unit

Cons: The blue lcd light is little to bright for my liking, other than that it's great. I usually cover the front panel lcd screen with something when watching a tv show or movie in a low light atmosphere.

Other Thoughts: I have it hooked up to my mac mini running snow leopard / plex in my living room. Everything works as it should. Great unit for backing up my HD movies.

Highly recommended... it's only been a week but so far so good. Love this unit.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent 2 Disk RAID System

Pros: - Works as described over USB and eSATA
- Nice LCD giving status of drives, fan speed and temps
- Small footprint

Cons: - No way to turn off the bright blue LED or blue LCD screen
- Rear fan has failed after about 1 year of continuous use
- Flimsy drive cages
- Poor alignment of rear SATA connectors with drive caddy on bottom tray. I often have to wiggle it around a bit to get it to go in.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a solid unit. I slapped in two 1.5 TB WD Black drives in RAID 1 and it has worked non-stop since I bought it. I haven't had a drive failure so there hasn't been a need to see if it rebuilds correctly.

3 out of 5 eggsDOES NOT HAVE RS232 PORT

Pros: -Clean
-seems well made
-no external power supply (i really like this part)
-alarm
-110-240v

Cons: device is not as new egg advertises! It does not come with a RS232 port as shown in the picture. No a huge deal, but i feel like i didn't get what i paid for. RMA isn't worth the effort.

additionally, the speed isn't that great see other thoughts

Other Thoughts: drive is in raid-0 with 2x2TB WD-Green drives. Using an on board sata controller each of these drives (NOT INSTALLED IN THE RAIDON) average about 84MB/s in NTFS. When placed installed in the GR3630 as RAID-0, they average 65MB/s NTFS
not so good. perhaps another partition format like ext4 or BTRFS would be better but i haven't tried.
