Pros: Great while it lasted.

Cons: - USB 3.0 never worked.
- Out of warranty repair charges are excessive.

Other Thoughts: Really disappointed.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible product and support

Pros: None

Cons: It loses connection to the computer every 2 to 30 minutes. Doesn't matter if its attached via USB or eSata. Tech support was non-existent, no repines after a week. Look elsewhere.

1 out of 5 eggsStill trying to get it working after 3 weeks

Pros: Looks good. Once you figure out to ignore the hardware dip switches (set them all to off) and use the software to configure, you get past the first hurdle.

Cons: I haven't got it to work yet. I want to configure RAID 5, but disk management fails to format after trying about 15 minutes. I tried the Large setting, which the instructions say is JBOD, but it's NOT, it's one large volume. I want to see four separate disks. And when I tried setting up Large, it installed some driver s/w which was totally unexpected. Also, the instructions are not very complete, I actually learned more by reading the manual online to the model 458 CineRAID.

Other Thoughts: First, some folks' motherboards may need new drivers to be able to format greater than 2.2TB, but since I'm using four 3TB drives, I successfully formatted one to the maximum size, so that's NOT my problem. Also Lebbeus is wrong when he says use GUID instead of NTFS. You have to INITIALIZE using GPT instead of MBR, but otherwise, you still have to FORMAT using NTFS. I've successfully initialized every time, and disk management sees all the drive space, but it fails at the format. Still seeking answers. :(

1 out of 5 eggscomplete junk

Pros: Uses standard RAID configurations, non-RAID option, USB 3 and eSATA.

Cons: Terrible build quality (even at this low of a price), it's like something out of the 1980's. "Hot swap" IF you can get your drive out with the really cheap plastic "rails".

Plus I was using this enclosure without the RAID and it corrupted two of my drives (which are perfectly fine in other enclosures.)

Going to the recycler, mad that NewEgg sells such junk.

1 out of 5 eggsnot good

Pros: Looks fairly good and I didnt think it feels that cheap like others have mentioned.

Cons: It of course will not stay connected.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to use it to store and watch movies, it will not last more than 15 minutes before it loses connection. I then thought I could use it to store and transfer a movie to my primary pc hard drive to watch the movie and it cant even stay connected long enough to transfer a 4 gig file. paperweight.

2 out of 5 eggsBeware!!!

Pros: -Hot swap 4 HD

Cons: -Keeps ejecting after about 30 minutes

Other Thoughts: Using it as a media storage on my Mac Mini.
I thought this was a great buy until I try and watch movies that are on a HD in this data storage. The thing randomly ejects itself from my computer making it impossible to watch a full movie or listen to music. Save your money DO NOT BUY!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome piece of hardware

Pros: easy to mount drives, includes 1 extra set if you want to swap. front panel is easily removed

Cons: none really, the handles for the drives might hold up better if they were metal instead of plastic. they haven't broke but would be a pain if they did

2 out of 5 eggsok unit

Pros: fits 4 drives plenty RAID combinations
usb3, esata
can help make plenty of storage available for me as a home user.

Cons: Seems to be built cheap.
Front plastic trim is in the way of the HDD drawer, I'm afraid the whole front will break one day.
It is hard to slide HDD in and out of it so I am really scared of shocks when hot swapping the HDD. Lucky for now I only have two HDD for it so no need for swapping.

Other Thoughts: I'm waiting to see how reliable it is because so far I think I payed way more then it is worth and I got it on sale for about $100.
These are my first impressions, I might update this as I play around more with it.

1 out of 5 eggsGood product, poor quality

Pros: Compact, easy to use and setup really plug and play, only need a little kwonledge to setup, therefore the manual is simple. Other reviewer may complain the front cover is filmsy and only secure by three magnets, but I think it is ok, works fine.

Cons: I have no luck, the first one I received was bad, USB connection was not working at all, even the front panel show no connection, but the eSata work, I email to their tech support to see if something could be done, no reply. After three days I call them directly, somebody answer the phone but no help , need some other tech guy to call me back, then no followup call at all. I wonder why some other reviewers could get technical advise and good service from them. The RMA replacement was almost the same problem. I cannot do the RMA full refund according to Newegg policy only the replacement. Then have to do the second RMA and I have to paid for return shipping charge too. Final the third one works, but already one month after the purchase. So this product is not worth for even it is on sale.

Other Thoughts: I wonder why some other reviewers could get technical advise and good service from CineRAID. They don't reply email and no technician to answer phone call, their home web site is so simple and not enough info to search usable data.
Some people said the technician guide her to setup the 3TB HDD, but it is plug and play, the machine will recognise it automatically and then you are done.
IF it works only for USB3.0 but not for 2.0, I think the one you have is defective.

5 out of 5 eggsEAZY PEAZY

Pros: Arrived on time, as usual with Newegg, Unpacked it put in my drives plugged it into USB and saw my drives instantly! Was concerned that it might not work like I wanted, due to other reviews, but not a hint of trouble from it.

I did have one question reguarding settings, so I called their Tech Support. who were very knowledgeable and nice and answered my question. Given the time of day on Friday that I called The Tech told me that they "wouldn't be around for the weekend so if I had any problems or questions be sure to call back soon" I thought that was conciderate in comparrison to other tech support.

There IS a PDF of a users manual on the CD which did give the answers as well. (Like most men...Manuals!?!? We don't need no stinking manuals!)

It works well as JOBD and you actually have choices as to how to array your RAID. It is a nice, compact, easy to use case. As my wife says "That's a sexy addition to your work space" :)

Cons: The only downfall, is that the quick start quide is almost too simple, not quite enough info to just plug and play. But Tech Support is exemplary so that made up for it.

Other Thoughts: Using it as JOBD, I am able to just plug in the unit to USB ports on pretty much any of my PCs and Laptops independantly. Runinng XP Pro, Vista Ultimate and Windows 7 Premium Home 64. And using my network hub I can access it just like you would a network printer or any network device.

Having the hotswap is awesome as well: Open the front pull the drive and replace! just like it should be!

I think I will get another though, so I don't have to swap.
