3 out of 5 eggsWorst Rebate Experience Ever

Pros: It works (I've not had any trouble with it, using it nearly daily).

Cons: Insanely slow rebate.

Other Thoughts: I would not have spent full-price on it; there were other docks at the time that were cheaper with the same featureset, but this one after the rebate was cheaper. I bought it in mid-November, we're now mid-February and no rebate. In case someone in their CS monitors these reviews, it's Promotion #59462, Tracking ID #23906133 & been sitting on "We have received your submission and it is being processed." for a month and a half. I know rebates take a while, but this is excessively long.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on Arrival

Pros: The advertised functionality looked great on paper (if the unit actually worked.)

Cons: The unit I received was Dead on Arrival (DOA). The power cord supplied with the CineRaid worked okay on my single-dock Thermaltake BlacX, so I know the power cord wasn't the problem.

1 out of 5 eggsVery unstable - I would not recommend to anyone

Pros: Good price on Black Friday specials. Dual dock.

Cons: I purchase this dual dock on Black Friday deals. It arrived in time. It was pretty simple to connect to my USB3 port. No drivers needed. My system recognized it with no problems. That were it gets a single egg. Now every time I connect a new drive to the dock I get a blue screen. I would reboot my system and it would work and I can even back up my system to an external drive. If I power it off and connect another drive I would get a BSOD again. I contacted Newegg and they replaced my dock with another one. Great, now I connected it to my system and my system would not even recognize it. I tried different thing and finally I tried a USB3 cable from my external hard drive and it worked with my cable. So a new cable that came with the dock was either defective or poor quality. Then after all I got a blue screen again. That was enough troubles for me I have send this dock back to the vendor.

I consider myself a computer professional with several IT certifications.

1 out of 5 eggsmine seems to be DOA

Pros: fair to moderate asking price for the features promised

Cons: Bought this at newegg (in June of 2014) because it had generally favorable reviews. I finally had need for it today (December 15, 2014 ) and took it out of the box and tried to use it for the first time only to find it was dead on arrival!

Actually, not 100% dead... I tried multiple disk-to-disk dupes in standalone mode; however, no matter what size or types of drives i use, the clone copy stops after about 10-15 minutes.

Instead, i tried copying data to and from various docked drives to multiple PCs via usb 2.0 and 3.0 ports. In all cases, again, copies start, but, after a few minutes, simply stop. (Then I need to power the unit off and back on again to get a PC to see it again. Which, isn't very useful, as it will just eventually die again if I try to perform another transfer.)

SO - I tried calling the phone number listed in the documentation, thinking maybe I could talk to tech support and/or get an RMA. But, that number has been changed. Thankfully, they do give you the new number and allow you to be transferred to it. But, when I call the new number, the answering system simply repeats the dialed number back to me and then beeps once. I assume I had reached the right company, but I have no clue if that beep meant I could leave a message or not. (Strange that in this day and age that they don't have a real answer machine or service. Heck, they could simply buy vonage or ring central or ooma -- something that basic that at least has an automated attendant!!!)

So, now I will have to try and email their support team and see how easy the are (or aren't ) to do business with... Will the RMA process for a product well-within it's one year warranty be simple and free/very low-cost, or, will it be long and painful and costly to the consumer?

I'll keep you posted....

3 out of 5 eggsCineRAID CR-H232

Pros: Price. Works well as external hard drive reader (2 3.5 drives).

Cons: Would not work to clone 2.5 HHD to SSD. Would start and hang up.

Other Thoughts: For the price, it works well as backup drive.

5 out of 5 eggsSOLID UNIT

Pros: Solid Unit. Excellent build quality and value for the price. If you want a longer cable, buy one. The provided cable is more than long enough to seat the unit on top of the chassis without having excessive slack. Easy Plug and Play (Windows 7). Extremely quiet. Ran standard hard drives and SSDs, easy. Has a VERY useful manual power switch (toggle) on the back. Various color indicator LEDs clearly communicate status. Clone feature works well. For more control I ran Acronis between the two inserted drives. Fast.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Wait for sale. Get a rebate. Paid about $22 all toll.

5 out of 5 eggsFast & Quiet

Pros: Fast data transfer, Quiet

Cons: Very light, USB 3.0 is too short

Other Thoughts: So I'm satisfied with its performance. It is very fast at 3.0 but I wish they provided a longer cord. I had to order a longer cord.

5 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 DUAL docking station

Pros: Good data transfer rates on my Seagate hard drive. On Sata3 I get 216 MB/s. With the drive plugged into this dock I also get 216MB/s. It does handle two drives at once, but you will take a performance hit if you do.

Cons: Will take a performance hit of about 1/2 when two drives are used in the dock. I was using two Seagate HD units as once and throughput went down to ~80MB/S for both.

Also tried one of my SSD drives in the unit. Normally it gets about 359MB/S on SATA3. It got 166MB/S on this dock.

Other Thoughts: All in all, it is a great unit. I also have another brands Esata and it also has reduced throughput if more than one hard drive. I will likely buy another for my other media PC. Beware that USB3 cable is not very long, it only reaches a few inches past the top of my PC tower unit, but then that is all I need for it to reach.

1 out of 5 eggsCR-H232 Not SATAIII?

Pros: Price and current USB 3 PCIe card as bonus.
Dual Bay
Independent cloning with out use of computer? This also means that there is no control on cloning process, it is strictly 1 to 1 clone.

Cons: According to user manual this unit only achieves SATA2 (3GB/s) speeds. "Supports All 2.5/3.5 SATA1/II/III drives up to 1 TB/4TB (SATAIII is running at SATAII speed)" If this is correct then this is really a SATAII dock. SATAIII has speeds of twice SATAII 660MB/s vs 300MB/s. Modern ssd drives can reach over 550GB/s so this drive will bottleneck your system. Nor does it meet USB3 specs therefore I think this is false advertising. It is not SATA3 nor USB3 if it cannot meet the specifications of the standards.

Other Thoughts: Spoke with Wade in Tech support for Cineraid who says they do not state it is SATAIII dock only compatible with SATAIII drives, all SATA drives use the same connector and are backwards compatible, so you still cannot advertise as SATAIII/USB3 if you don't meet specs. Wade also said that NO USB3 docks/drives meet USB3 speeds, this is not true. I think people should look for another company.

5 out of 5 eggsDesktop Drive Dock

Pros: Hooked up to USB 3.0 hub on my desktop and started testing it and it so far works better than i thought it would.I can put drives in to see what's on them or can add or remove files. It also makes it easier to test a drive to see if it's in working order.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: it took me quite a few years before i finally decided to try one of these docks. So far it works better than i had expected and has more use's than i would have thought.
