5 out of 5 eggsGREAT

Pros: Solid cabling and connectors. Simple operation. High compatibility.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I don't use the audio portion of the IOGEAR GCS632U so I can't speak to it's quality there. I own several of these, some for multiple years. Never had a problem with any of them.

2 out of 5 eggsSmall Home Office Setup

Pros: Does what it's suppose to do. I have it hooked up between an XP computer and a Windows 7 computer. Purchased these specifically for the handling of Windows 7. Keyboard, mouse and sound work fine, no complaints there.

Cons: Since purchasing this back in Nov. of 2013 I'm having constant irritable frustrating problem of the screen going blank for a few seconds whether it's connected to the XP computer or Windows 7. I contacted support and followed their advice but, nothing they suggested corrected this problem. I really like the compact size of this unit and was hoping I could suggest this product to several of my business clients. But, I cannot.

Other Thoughts: None

3 out of 5 eggsIOGear KVM is a decent piece of hardware

Pros: This thing is really reliable and has audio. I use this every day at work.
Knocked off one egg for scroll lock key issue and one for weird failure issue.

Cons: Uses scroll lock as the only possible key to switch between ports. I had a wireless Logitech keyboard that I had to switch out because it didn't have a physical scroll lock key. I even switched one of the custom function keys using the setpoint software and it would not recognize a virtual Scroll Lock keystroke.... sure it has to do with the fact that the key stroke is interrupted when it hits the machine and not the KVM switch.
I have had some issues with this KVM on Windows 7 where it appeared that the Targus optical mouse I was using caused the KVM switch to fail, but there were so many things wrong with the machine I was using I'm sure the KVM was either partially or not at all at fault.

Other Thoughts: Overall, this KVM is worth it for the low price. The majority of reviewers agree, and I think my experience is a very uncommon one with this KVM.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. Our KVM’s emulate a standard 102 key, keyboard and generic 2-button scroll wheel mouse. The reason for this emulation is to allow the hot key functions to operate. A side effect of the emulation is that in most cases the special key sequences required for gamming, and key programming will not translate correctly through the KVM, for gamming we recommend connecting directly to the computer.

Although our KVMs will work with most wireless keyboard mouse sets, we cannot promise an individual multimedia / programmable keyboard and mouse set will work through the KVM.

Due to the large number of manufacturer's and each manufacturer's wide range of models it is impossible to maintain any meaningful compatibility list. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is good KMV switch for when you don't want / or have a lot of space available.

Cons: Unfortunately I received this IOGEAR with defective cables. I opened the package to discover that the cables' plastic shielding were melted together and that the inside of the packaging had burn score marks. It almost appear that the IOGEAR was store in a hot! warehouse and that the rubber shielding were about to combust!

Other Thoughts: NewEgg were very helpful after I explained the issues and send me a RMA. This waiting however for the replacement.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The product should not behave as you described. Since the unit is backed by IOGEAR's 3 year warranty feel free to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: In the future if a problem like this is found please contact IOGEAR support at Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsdecent for the price

Pros: works for what you need it to do

Cons: NO DEDICATED BUTTON (suppose I should have read the specs better) The problems come when you want to actually customize how the KVM switches over to the other computer. It's defaulted to the "num lock" key being tapped twice. You can change it to be the "left ctrl" key being tapped twice. This could be really annoying since I've accidentally swapped computers multiple times while playing FPS games until I got used to it.

Other Thoughts: Would recommend buying ONLY if you need a cheap solution. Otherwise, spring another $10 and get a better one

5 out of 5 eggsworth the money

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsUsed all over my office

Pros: Does what it is supposed to and works great for many people in my office where there are two PCs at the desk because some people work from home some days and are in the office some days. This switches between PCs to allow the person in the office to switch to their PC for the monitor display. This works so well, I will be getting one for my home to switch between PCs, Linux and Windows. I "borrowed" it for a little while from the office at home and it worked almost flawless. The only problem I had is sometimes, in Linux, it would not recognize the USB keyboard. But unplugging it from the KVM switch then replugging it allowed my Slackware 14.0 Linux to see the keyboard and after that it's clear sailing.

Cons: Like I said above, sometimes I have to unplug and replug the keyboard in Linux.

Other Thoughts: It doesn't allow for gaming due to slow video response, but hey, it works and if you want that, you would expect to spend more money right? So, it really isn't a con. You get what you pay for, and I mean that in a good way, you get inexpensive basic, reliable functionality from my experience.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. Linux does usually require additional drivers for devises like keyboards and mice. In order for hot key operation and instantaneous recognition of the keyboard and mouse when switching computers, our KVMs emulate a standard wired 102 key keyboard and wired generic 2-button scroll wheel mouse. We can not guarantee the use of wireless (including Bluetooth), multifunction, gaming, integrated card readers, or programmable keyboards and mice. This KVM also requires a mouse and keyboard be connected to their respective console ports, so we cannot guarantee the use of docking stations, port replicators or USB / PS2 adapters. IOGEAR makes a wide variety of KVM's some specifically for gamming keyboards. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

2 out of 5 eggsNo Physical Selection

Pros: Easy to set up.

Cons: There's no physical selection button, the documentation on IOGear's site is poor and it doesn't seem to work with a Microsoft Sidewinder X4 keyboard, even with the Sidewinder X4 drivers installed (which are garbage to begin with).

I'll be buying a physical switch next time.

Other Thoughts: Don't get me wrong, I think it's a neat idea, but a physical switch is far better than the onboard controllers linking with your mouse/keyboard to switch between machines.

5 out of 5 eggsMakes Life Easier

Pros: Switching between a laptop and desk computer is real easy.
Just connect to your computes and turn them on as it is self installing , no software required.
I use my laptop to surf the internet and the desktop to keep to track of the weather radar.
Also instead of uing a wired mouse I was to use a wireless one.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Wish I had known about this sooner, makes things a lot easier than having to deal with two of everything.
