will this fit a regular desktop case? Like are the mounting screws the same?

I doubt it would. I had to remove a bracket on my server case because it is a different size. If I had ti do do over again, I would NOT buy this power supply. It is actually 3 500w modules; it does NOT provide real 1000w triple redundancy. There are other units available that are actually 3 redundant 1000w modules; I'd suggest looking for one of those. If I didn't find that out after putting the server into production, I would have swapped it out for the correct configuration. This is just not the triple redundancy I wanted for my production business server.

Question 2

What are the extra PSU replacements called? If I am understanding it correctly, one fails, the failed unit can be replaced?

500W Redundant Power Supply Module. Though I have not seen them for sale anywhere, you would likely need to contact the manufacturer in order to get one.
