1 out of 5 eggsnot what i expected

Pros: switches between 2 computers as stated. that's about it.

Cons: blue vga connectors a little too bulky which prevents getting good leverage to screw them onto the vga port on the pc. and the fitting was a little wobbly. i didn't want to mess up the vga port on my pc by the constant screwing. no remote button- can not hide it behind anything since the button or switch is near and not remote as on older iogear kvm switches.

Other Thoughts: i bought this because i really needed it to switch between 2 pcs that i'd previously had to unplug the monitor from one and plug it into the other. right away i noticed it didn't have the 4 usb connectors but 2. i thought that would be a problem - how would it pick up both mice and keyboards on both pcs if only 2 usbs and not 4 ?-which another reviewer nathan surely addressed and confirmed in his review. but this set up isn't any better because i found the vga connectors to be too bulky and not cut away slightly like other connectors so you can get a good grip and leverage on screwing the blue turn screws and it won't be so wobbly. but they're still wobbly even all the way in. i don't like that. did not make a good connection nor impression with me. also, it doesn't have a remote button like others so you can't hide the main bulky switch on the floor or behind your wiring with all your other pc stuff- out of the way and off your desktop or other nearby equipment. it has to be near you which created a little problem with me. to me since it doesn't create a snug fitting on the vga i'll have to agree with the other reviewer who said it has a junky feel to it. newegg you should have a zero star rating.

Manufacturer Response:

• Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. IOGEAR makes a KVM solution for almost all needs. The GCS42UW6 is a starter KVM used to share one monitor, one keyboard and one mouse between two computers. The customer KVM cable only has one USB connection. This will be used for the keyboard, mouse and power connected to each computer, even though there are separate console ports for the mouse and keyboard. Your comments will be forwarded to a product manager for review. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

5 out of 5 eggsIogear 2 port KVM / GCS42UW6

Pros: Works perfect and saves time. Installed with ease and no glitches whatsoever.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Switching between two computers saves me the time it takes to unplug and reconnect. I work with several computers and this little gem was well worth the money spent. Windows just needs the time to install the specific hardware drivers first then it's ready to rock.

2 out of 5 eggs33% failure rate

Pros: Useful design, works with wireless keyboad and mouse with dongle plugged in keyboard port on KVM, pretty sweet.

Cons: Purchased 3 of these at the same time, 1 of them failed after 93 days in service. Lights on KVM went out first, then immediately after total failure.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The product should not behave as you described. Since the unit is backed by IOGEAR's 3 year warranty feel free to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

5 out of 5 eggsperfect - does the job

Pros: simple install; reliable; easy to use

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: if you want a basic 2 machine kvm, this is it. no frills, no digital display to go bad. simple click button and you switch back and forth. Cords seem to be long enough on my average size desk to get to my PC stuck underneath as well as my laptop on top.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat switch

Pros: Easy to connect
no perceived lag for keyboard or mouse inputs
Easy button switching

Cons: Pressing a keyboard key will no longer 'wakeup' the computers. Need to use power button.

Other Thoughts: I only use the keyboard and mouse, no video.
I'm switching between my laptop (win7 pro 64bit) and desktop (win7 ultimate 64bit) and switching is pretty rapid.
I do wish the connections where all on the back so I can better hide/tuck my cables but that's very minor. I'm very happy with the function/price of this unit.

5 out of 5 eggsUSB switching works very well for a cheap KVM, haven't used video

Pros: Simple one push switching, no power needed (powered by upstream USB ports), compatible with many OSs (I used Win 7 and OS X), built in cables. 5 eggs because of the price.

Cons: No hotkey switching

Other Thoughts: First off, I do not use this for video switching, I only use it for the USB ports. I especially like this KVM switch (or KM in my case) because it's really a 2 port generic USB hub that you can switch between two computers with a touch of a button. Even though the two downstream ports are labelled with a keyboard and mouse icon, you can plug in other USB devices. I've tried another hub, a thumb drive, and even my iPhone, they were all detected. However, since it's a self powered hub, so it doesn't charge the iPhone (or anything else that requires more than a couple hundred mA). When you switch between the two computers, it's like physically unplugging the hub from one computer and plugging it into another, so you see see all the devices behind the hub disappear from one computer and then appear in the other. Depending on your OS and how many devices you have hooked up behind it, it may take a second or so for the OS to discover everything when switching.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks and Priced Right.

Pros: Fast machine switching
Small footprint
No software to install
Easy setup
One button_simple ! (it's MY easy button :) )

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: It works great if you work on computer at your desk and don't want to, A. Keep an extra keyboard and mouse on your desk or B. Don't like unplugging your current one to run the other machine. I find it to be a big time saver. I use a dedicated monitor off to the side and use the KVM to switch mouse/keyboard function. People that say it switches slow, well that depends on the speed of your machine. Toggling TO my main is 1-2 seconds, toggling from totally depends on the other machine and how fast it recognizes the change. No complaints. good deal for under 20 bones.

2 out of 5 eggsusb/mouse ok, monitor bad

Pros: plug an play, simple

Cons: doesn't support high monitor resolutions. I keep on getting invalid input problem on my monitor

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The Maximum resolution is 2048x1536 on the GCS42UW6. IOGEAR makes a wide variety of KVM’s to suite most specific needs and resolutions. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

1 out of 5 eggsCauses Blue Screen of Death

Pros: Has a button to switch between computers, versus having to use keyboard shortcut

Cons: This thing is a piece of junk! I fix computers on the side and when I initially bought it, it would very often cause BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) on my XP machine when I would switch back to my computer, sometimes after briefly working. Tested my memory, updated graphics card drivers, etc. and found no other hardware issues and couldn't figure out the cause. It still does the same thing even now that I'm running Windows 7. So finally instead of going out and spending money replacing memory and graphics card as possible solutions, I borrowed a Belkin 2 port usb kvm from work to try to narrow down the problem to kvm switch or computer hardware, and voila, the Belkin kvm works fine without any BSOD!!! (NOTE: Never had any BSODs on the other computers I had attached, but what good is this thing if it constantly causes them on my own computer!?)
