2 out of 5 eggsI really wanted to like it but....

Pros: Nice layout, convenient USB ports on front and rear. At least the rear USB Ports worked for 6 months.

Cons: I would have given this product a 5 star rating, IF it would have worked the way it supposed to. When I received the switch already the front USB ports for mice and keyboard where non functional. Because I used the ports located on the rear only, I thought "what the heck". About 3 weeks ago I have moved and had to pack up my workstations. I am very particular with my equipment and treat everything with the utmost care. Just mentioning it to exclude any malfunction due to mishandling. I put together my studio and to my dismay the rear USB ports also malfunctioning. Now I have got a product that is only switching monitors. Meaning I have to manually plug and unplug the tablet and had to use a second keyboard to make this process less painful. Ultimately I will have to purchase a new switch. No way around it because I use two workstations simultaneously. Like my title said: I really wanted to love the Aten switch and even "overlooked" the malfunctioning of two ports from the start, but now it became useless.

Other Thoughts: I hope to get it fixed because the "limited warranty" is still in effect.... we'll see.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent KVMP switch

Pros: Well built in metal enclosure with soft vinyl or plastic feet. Good manual and best of all good switching quality with no visible problems with DVI quality. Sits on top of one of my two Mac mini mid-2011 models, switched between HP 2311x LED display, Matias keyboard and Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse. Some consider it a bit high priced, but it isn't compared to older KVMP switches of some years ago, that were of similar quality, but much more costly.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: The feet design and weight of the product will prevent the heavy cables from dragging it off of something that you might set it on. Something that was a problem with an earlier KVMP switch housed in a light weight slippery plastic bottom case.

5 out of 5 eggsLIVES UP TO THE REVIEWS - BUY ONE - KEEP THIS COMPANY IN BUSINESS

Pros: Switches audio output seprately from everything else so you can listen to sound on one computer while working on the other. Worked well when I tested it. The way it works is by number of times the button is pushed. It's really simple to operate.

The switch is done fairly quickly, about 3 seconds.

Switches peripherals (printer, scanner), that's what the "P" in "KVMP" stands for (have not tested it at the time of this review). Note that there is only one USB connection used per computer so the KVMP switch acts as a spitter / hub to expand one port into four (two are on the front and labeled for keyboard and mouse, the other two are on the back for printer, scanner, or whatever).

Worked without much frustration hooking it up. Didn't need to read the manual to figure it out, it's pretty obvious how to hook it up.

Switches the digital video connector, not the analog one.

Came with two sets of cables. All you need to supply is one digital monitor cable between switch and

Cons: Not that big of a con, but the first time the KVMP switch is turned ON, or if you shut it OFF by unplugging it (it has no ON/OFF switch), then when you turn it back ON, the port-2 computer will not be sensed until you first turn the port-1 computer ON. After that you don't need to turn the port-1 computer ON again (as long as you never turn the KVMP switch OFF) for the port-2 computer to be sensed by itself. So I just leave the KVMP switch turned ON all the time.

Keeps the keyboard and mouse powered, even when both computers are OFF. This wastes energy, so you have to turn the KVMP switch OFF by unplugging it (there is no ON/OFF switch on the device) to conserve power. Then when you do that you are stuck with the problem in the above paragraph the next time you turn the switch on. So in use, it best to just leave the KVMP switch ON all the time, and gulp down the little bit of energy loss you'll pay for.

Other Thoughts: After reading reviews of other KVM switches, this one did exactly what I wanted and seems to do it well. I don't like the fact that I need to leave it ON all the time (see above) but I can live with that.

Though I have not done it, this switch can be used to create a very secure way of computing. What one would do is dedicate one computer for internet use ONLY using LINUX (live CD/DVD boot / remove all hard drives from it). The other computer will not be used on the internet at all and thus will not be networked at all. There will be complete physical isolation and thus no way to hack the offline computer from the internet. Any downloads would be transferred by USB drive. On the offline computer you will not need much security and thus it will be screaming fast. However you should turn OFF auto run features off the USB drive to avoid auto run form of viruses infecting your computer. The offfline computer should also be imaged for easy restoration after testing software.

4 out of 5 eggsGood One

Pros: Works fine for video and keyboard but see Cons. Did not test audio part.

Cons: BIOS doesn't see my USB keyboard connected through this switch. It may be just my mobo issue but I don't go to BIOS settings all too often and then I need to connect keyboard directly.

5 out of 5 eggsVery, very good

Pros: Featureful, well constructed, professional gear with rock-solid firmware. Absolutely zero loss in quality @ 1920x1200. High-end mouse works flawlessly after disabling mouse emulation mode.

Cons: I could say price, but there is nothing comparable that's any cheaper.

Other Thoughts: I've tried many KVMs, and am surprised by how few work at all. The eggs did not steer me wrong - this one is working 100%.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Good Switching, Great Video Quality. Easy Setup, Easy to flash.

Cons: FYI, by default it is set to run the mouse in a compatibility mode, which is designed for three button mice. If you have a 4 button or more it doesn't function properly until you do the NUM lock - key to enter the HMS mode and press the M key. Then all is well with the world.

5 out of 5 eggs2nd look

Pros: This thing works! It is switching between Win 7 Pro and Ubuntu without a hitch.

Cons: You have to read the instructions. A longer hold on the Auto Scan button moves the USB priority. I can't listen to music on the Win machine and print from Ubuntu at the same time. No biggy though.

Other Thoughts: I really thought I was spending to much money but, the reviews were good so I took a chance. I would have spent more knowing what I know now.

5 out of 5 eggsNICE!

Pros: It works as advertised. This thing switches audio (in and out), DVI video, and USB without a hitch (see cons). I am using a MS wireless keyboard and a Logitech wireless mouse without any problems.

Cons: The video, keyboard and mouse switch quite quickly and work properly. My USB printer and mass storage are a problem where Ubuntu is concerned. I may repost if I find a work around.

3 out of 5 eggsDVI switching works flawlessly...

Pros: Switches my HD monitor every time, without loss or issues.

Cons: Does NOT switch my mouse or keyboard completely. Now this is misleading, but it actually DOES switch my mouse and keyboard, but it randomly generates errors on one of my PCs and the BIOS post never sees the keyboard. It works...but it renders all the bells and whistles of my gaming mouse and my keyboard useless.

Other Thoughts: I've went to just using two different mice, since I can not customize my mouse settings using this KVM switch. And the keyboard works, but one of PCs indicates a motherboard error when using this switch. Basically, I paid over a $100 for a monitor switch...it's useless for the my input devices. Also, the instructions are lame...the one in my box was for the 4-port unit. Nothing matches. You can figure it out, but you are own your own. It's stupid to put the keyboard and mouse inputs on the FRONT of the unit. Although, I've found that plugging them in the rear ports produces the result. Sadly for me, it doesn't work correctly either way. If you want an expensive monitor switch, then I can recommend this...if you want a consistent, complete USB switch that works...then I can not recommend this switch.
