3 out of 5 eggsLittle under 4 years later - Other Comments.

Pros: Economical.
Front plates aren't terrible looking.
Data cables are sleeved in plastic casing.
Bonus USB 2.0 slot.
Black and Silver front panels included.

Cons: SD card must be inserted upside down.
Screw holes for mounting may need manipulation during installation.
Quality diminishes considerably over time. (internal connectors on SD slot.)

Other Thoughts: I've had this reader for almost 4 years, I only purchased this reader for the SD card slot and now find myself needing to replace it. it still reads, but I may have to fumble with the SD card to get it to read / connect. (Which leaves me concerned about data corruption)
It no longer rewrites/formats SD cards. I am positive that my write protect tab is set properly as my SD cards rewrite in a relative's computer, in my devices (Cameras) connected to the computer via USB and in my devices themselves.
(Used Command Prompt to clean/format/assign etc. while using the reader as well, still no luck.)
Which leaves me with it being a physical defect/worn out tab in the reader.
I like to use my SD cards for more than Cameras. (Windows installation discs, data transfer, etc.) And obviously cannot make bootable media through a camera.
For what it's worth, I paid about $14 for the reader and got about 2 years of SOLID performance from it. I didn't want an external USB card reader in fear of misplacing it/convenience So that is why I opted for this type of reader.
(But, I'll probably end up with a cheap external reader until I replace this one)
I originally gave this reader 4 eggs when I first reviewed it. knocked it down to 3 eggs seeing how it's quality degraded over time.
If you plan on using this for your SD cards on a semi daily basis (Or more)? Look for something of better build quality.
If you use your SD card on perhaps a weekly/monthly basis? this would suffice.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on arrival, no help from manufacturer

Pros: If it worked it would have been great

Cons: Dead on arrival. Set it up and while I could see it in the BIOS it would not show up as a device that was usable. The power light lit up and all the connections were good. I called the company and their basic response was 'why are you even bothering with such a cheap device? Just send it back for a refund." Very annoying since I needed the reader for a project.

4 out of 5 eggsnMedia All-in One Card Reader

Pros: Fits nicely in my Antec case with the addition of a 3.5 to 5.25 bay adapter. With the little testing I have completed (e.g. reading an SD card and testing the USB port) everything seems to be working as described.

Cons: SD cards must be pushed into the slot upside down.

Other Thoughts: This is more about adapting the Antec case to accommodate the card reader. In the 5.25 bays there are only screw holes on the left side of the case to mount any 5.25 device. It appears that the right side of a device is supposed to be held in by a friction fit. Doesn't work with the card reader as you must push the SD cards to seat them in the reader. Doing so pushes the right side of the card reader into the bay. Drilling several holes in the case on the right side so that mounting screws could be used solved the problem.

4 out of 5 eggs4 years old

Pros: Still ticking!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Item certainly shows longevity. It has been used in a media PC so it probably as had an SD inserted and ejected at least once a day for the last four years or so.

4 out of 5 eggsAbout a 10% failure rate.

Pros: Works great, when it works. I've purchased several in the last year since they're relatively cheap.

Cons: I've had about 1 in 10 die after 6 months or so in various customer builds.

Other Thoughts: Good for the money. If you're only buying one for your own system, I might spend a bit more and get a more reliable unit.

2 out of 5 eggsSo-so

Pros: Very cheap, and a bonus USB slot on the front.

Cons: Other card slots never worked, though occasionally it would light as having detected something.

Other Thoughts: Likely better off buying something different. USB slots are a dime a dozen. Price was right for a cheap addition, and I DO use it, but likely going to get something else to replace.

5 out of 5 eggsFits a Need

Pros: Works as advertised. I liked that it gave me a USB 2.0 port on the front to compliment my cases dual USB 3.0 front ports. UBS 3.0 ports have been reported to, on occasion, not play well with some older USB devices.

Cons: Not really a con given the price, but it does not come with a 3.5 to 5.25 inch bay bracket.

Other Thoughts: This reader works well if your case has only a single USB 3.0 header on your motherboard that you want to use for your cases own USB 3.0 front ports. The USB 3.0 multi card readers that I have seen, only operate in USB 3.0 mode on the reader's UBS port, while the card ports still only work in USB 2.0 mode.
So, why waste a USB 3.0 header on your motherboard if you don't need to, for a multi-card reader (unless you don't have other USB 3.0 ports on the front of your case..

4 out of 5 eggsDusty after no use!

Pros: Fast detection, bonus USB slot, and fits in a 2.5" drive.

Cons: 1. As everyone else has been saying: I need to put SD card upside down!

2. The card reader became dusty after two months of no-use; thus, unreadable. Here's my story: I inserted my SD card, PC asked me to format card before use (like card was brand new or something). This was strange because I knew I had information on the card. I took out card, and a a thick layer of dust covered the gold connectors. I had to blow the dust off the card and out of the device for everything to work. All in all, I would recommend preparing a can of air duster -- or heave a deep breath!

Other Thoughts: Excellent device, but I would prefer two USB ports in the front instead of one. In addition, please make them USB 3.0, which is backwards compatible with usb 2.0 and usb 1.1!
