5 out of 5 eggs$$ / Speed ratio is Awesome!

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: For the price I paid, this is WELL worth getting for simple storage. I own a Kingston HyperX, so my bar has been set pretty high when it comes to Flash Drives. Full USB 3.0 drive with no hidden gimmicks.

Read: ~104 MB/sec
Write: ~110 MB/sec

Cons: Gets a little hot due to the somewhat cheap plastic it's made of. The cap is next to impossible to open without feeling like you're about to break it.

Other Thoughts: If this thing is on sale, it is definitely worth getting being USB 3.0. Perfect for storing larger files ( under 4GB though if you keep it FAT32, in which it comes :) ).

2 out of 5 eggsJust plain doesn't work with some (not all) USB 2.0 slots

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: I bought this flash drive for it's large storage capacity and low price, I don't really care much about the speed. Thought I might as well get a USB 3.0 compatible drive, and at this price it was a steal, or so I thought.

Cons: From my couple of months of usage, this drive works just fine with any USB 3.0 port on any computer. However, I have plugged this drive into several people's computers to perform data back up and several times it has failed to load the drive at all. The light on the drive turns red and stays red and it cannot be found in disk management on windows or disk utility on a mac. Every time it has failed is while attempting to use the drive on a USB 2.0 port. It is extremely frustrating considering I bought this flash drive so I wouldn't have to lug along a larger portable hard drive, however since it doesn't load consistently I cannot count on it working. Big pain.

5 out of 5 eggs128 Gigs at your finger tips

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: USB 3.0 = fast transfer, no more carrying a portable drive for a weekend of movies and music with the girlfriend! The best thing the price, thanks Newegg!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I hope Newegg put them back on sale soon!

2 out of 5 eggs1 year Later

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: Capacity for price. It still works after a year. Relatively small.

Cons: After a year of regular use, my experience has been that this drive fails in two important areas - Performance and Design.
For transferring small files, the speed is dismally slow and frustrating. Transfers are not only slow, but they seem to stall at times. My backups take easily twice the time they used to on better quality drives.
After a year on my keyring, the drive is literally falling apart. I put a small ring through the existing hole in the drive to attach to my keyring, and because of the idiotic location of the hole, in line with the seam, the ring has split the halves of the drive and pulled out. I wrapped the drive in reinforced tape to hold the halves together, which worked for a while, but eventually the tape fails. Finally, I did what PNY should have done - I drilled a small hole from side to side through the upper corner opposite from the corner with the original hole, and put the ring through the new hole. The top part of the case is hollow, so the drilling does no damage to the circuit board. And now the ring holds the halves together rather than forcing them apart.
Also, the sliding cover over the connector has never worked smoothly, and it often opens from banging around in my pocket. When slid down, it does protect the connector from flexing, but there is no protection from dust and dirt. There are many other, much better, designs

Other Thoughts: Initially I thought that the trade off for high capacity at a low price was somewhat worth the trade off in speed, but after a year I'm ready to spend a bit more for something much faster. If you just use the drive just for static storage, or for only large files, it may still be worthwhile.
The physical design is just dumb. A better design wouldn't cost any more, and it would make the drive last longer and be more pleasant to use.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Drive

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: -Faster than USB 2.0
-Simple design

Cons: -Not advertised speed
-Kinda bulky for what seems to be no reason (lots of extra plastic and void space

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. This drive is inexpensive for a reason. You are paying for the storage, not for the case or the best speed. Looking at a real world usage of coping a single .mp4 file (~5GB) from my internal SSD to the drive over USB3.0, windows was reporting about 51MBps. From the drive to my SSD was about 105MBps. Not even close to the advertised speeds of 130MBps and 190MBps respectively, but good enough for my use. I am sure under some benchmark you could get the advertised speeds but I like to look at a real world case.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: I get 85-90 Megs/second on this baby. Way way better than the 1 Mb/s I was getting on my USB 2.0.

I bought this for $39.99 during the after christmas special with no shipping or tax.

Cons: I hate the sliding casing on this thing. Very difficult to open/close - need both hands. And it doesn't cover the actual USB contacts which makes it pretty useless.

4 out of 5 eggsPNY 128GB USB 3 turns into 32GB

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: Great when it works FIVE STARS!!! Just don't use it to create a “Recovery Drive” in Windows 8..1? It formatted it twice to 32 GB. At time thought was defective! I could not find any simple fix information on changing it back to 128 GB on PNY Website; hopefully now fixed or read below?

Cons: I have been frustrated for while with New 128GB USB Drive only showing up as 32GB even after re-partitioning it with NTFS, etc?. Checked PNY Website for a fix there was nothing even in Website search? Decided to call as last resort before warranty ends and considering leaving negative Newegg feedback on purchase? Bruce with PNY Technical Support called me this week and said it sometimes happens other program see and re-formats it as 32GB. Bruce did not say what program though showed easy fix and it works great now with extra 70GB of backup. I now would buy another very fast… These are the somewhat simple steps that PNY should list to fix it? Oops, after tried again creating a “Recovery Drive” with 128GB PNY USB Drive in Windows 8.1… Back to 32GB? I shall just use a cheap 32GB USB Drive now and I now know the fix… Thanks again Bruce...

Open command prompt as administrator (Admin)

Type: diskpart
Type: list disk
Type: select disk n (Where n is the USB drive)
Type: clean
Type: create partition primary
Type: format fs=ntfs quick
Type: active
Type: assign
Type: exit
Type: exit, close window…

Sorry Bruce if it causes you extra work, LOL. Martin

Other Thoughts: Reduced an Egg for PNY not listing this problem and simple FIX on their website; I have no idea why? I was close to giving you single egg negative feedback PNY! Thank you Bruce again

4 out of 5 eggsPNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: Received OK. 7 Days.
It works. It's fast. Copied 1.7 gb file in less than 10 sec.
So far, so good.
Don't forget, if you need to copy a single file that is larger than 4gb, you MUST reformat the flash to NTFS.

Cons: None, so far.

Other Thoughts: Good price.
I needed this to make installed O/S copies.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: Finally, no more carrying a bulky 2.5" SSD in your pocket. Read speeds over 100MB/s, writes are of course a bit slower. I have seen no compatibility issues yet, compared to the issues I have seen with the 32G/64G high-perf SD brand of flash drives.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: There is a "red" version of this that I do not own, but I see no benefits unless you like "red"
