4 out of 5 eggsSomething of a Bargain

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: Plenty of storage capacity and very good speed when working with large files.

Killer deal when on sale.

Cons: Pathetic 1-year warranty! Compare to other well-known brands who provide anything from 3-years to Lifetime warranty.

Small file performance (for example, many text docments and files needed to launch programs) is mediocre compared to how well the drive handles larger files.

Other Thoughts: For storing videos, photos, movies, and music this drive should keep you happy with its USB 3.0 speed. It's too bad they don't have enough confidence in their own product to provide a reasonable warranty. Should we be worried?

3 out of 5 eggsIs It Worth The Risk

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: High capacity
USB 3
My other PNY flash drives have had no issues (but see note below)

Cons: Much better price this month elsewhere after rebate
Numerous complaints of premature malfunctioning and possible compatibility issues with Windows 8.1

Other Thoughts: Thought I was ready to jump on this Shell Shocker item today, but don't think I want a real "Shock" within a few weeks or months. Carefully, research this product before hitting the "buy" button.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: -Sturdy
-128GB
-Cheap
-Usually fast enough for my needs (more on speed below)

Cons: None so far. Speeds aren't always as fast as I expect but it still flies.

Other Thoughts: The casing of this drive may look and feel a bit cheap (it is plastic), but I have no issues wit it. It feels sturdy enough to me. There's a hidden red activity LED in the middle, and the cover slides back to allow access.

While using this drive on a USB 3.0 port, I observed speeds up to 90 MBps. While using it on a 2.0 port, I observed speeds up to 40 MBps. However, ultimately the speed varies widely, and seems to be dependent on how many files I am moving and each file's individual size. Speeds sometimes also peak around the halfway mark of a file transfer and then level off towards the end. (I'm not sure how common this is for flash drives).

Pros: Those results were for my C: drive which is M.2
Here are the CDM results for the PNY.

Cons: Really slow. I must have got a bad one. Ran this in all the onboard (Intel and Asmedia) USB 3 slots. Results are consistent. The machine is fast and has 16 GB RAM.

Other Thoughts: Junk.

2 out of 5 eggsUnimpressed

This review is from: PNY 128GB Turbo USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128TBOP-GE

Pros: Fast

Cons: Doesn't last.
Had one of those for about 4 months, just RMA'ed it 4 days ago as it died completely (none of the computers recognize it). Well, stuff happens, figured I'd get another one (it's pretty fast - what I did like about it). This one is misbehaving right out of the package. Disconnects in the middle of writing to it, randomly (seems more stable in USB2 ports, but then it's way too slow for my use). This one is going back to Newegg and I'll be looking for a drive from another manufacturer.
