1 out of 5 eggsIT HAS DIED

Pros: THE SIZE AND APPEARANCE IS VERY GOOD

I WAS EXCITED ABOUT THE 64 GB CAPACITY.

THAT EXCITEMENT QUICKLY WENT AWAY WHEN IT DIED.

Cons: IT STARTED CAUSING ERROR MESSAGES , SAYING THE DRIVE MUST BE RE-FORMATTED.

I TRIED THIS AND IT WORKED FOR SEVERAL DAYS THEN IT JUST DIED.

MY COMPUTER DOES NOT EVEN RECOGNIZE IT WHEN I PLUG IT IN.

I HAVE TRIED IT IN SEVERAL OTHER COMPUTERS WITH THE SAME RESULTS.

1 out of 5 eggsStarting to fail

Pros: holds 64 gb
price tag

Cons: starting to fail already, only 8 months old.

Other Thoughts: First time trying a patriot product. Thought I would give it a try because of the price. Drive is slow as many of the others stated, only 2.0 usb. Which isn't the end of the world. But the drive is starting to get buggy and lose information on it already. Computer is having problems reading it and it is running slower and slower. This 8 month old drive is already starting to give me problems. Would not buy from patriot again.

4 out of 5 eggsok item has been reliable

Pros: smaller than some 8gb flash drivers.
Havent had huge drawbacks or memory loss yet, initially it did have but it got worked out by formatting immediately and no memory was lost. I run diagnostics on it via the windows context menu and no problems thus far since I first had some known error with this, that's why I deduced an egg.

Cons: gets hotter than anyone would expect any usb device to get.

blue activity light. It's not as practical as the engineers/marketers may think, or make them dim covered up in darker plastics, and save us the nuisance of radiant "ambient" light hitting the walls of rooms at night, and even during the day.

Cap does not stay on, but then again, this is not a huge con, only that you do have this blue light. Again this aesthetic is not horrible and doesnt affect my data, but it's worth mentioning, as there are a myriad of options available.

Other Thoughts: can get slow transfer speeds, this is your typical flash usb thumbdrive, and not the top of the line model, but still worthy of discussion. It bears repeating though. Did a bit of research on how to format the drive, but I guess it's just a slow drive. I think 24 mbs or so is what this gets, but I guess it could just be that I have a SATA II hdd, so it's not 100% the patriot's problem.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Flash Drives I've ever had.

Pros: All 4 were stolen in a break-in about a month after purchase.

Cons: Excruciatingly slow, each draws 500 mA, get way too hot, almost too hot to touch, would disconnect around a GB of writing.

Other Thoughts: I expected cheap to be slow, thought 4 in a RAID 0 would help that, but even a 2 amp USB hub couldn't keep 4 going, nor two even, and not even one once too hot.

Did achieve twice the speed using a XP/PC, but still was far too slow & dismounted or corrupted data when hot.

I have no idea if this is with all of them, or just a small batch. I'd assume Patriot wouldn't purposely release ones like mine.

3 out of 5 eggsLots of space but super slow.

Pros: It holds alot of data

Cons: Slow, I wanted to use this in my Kenwood DNX-6120 Stereo in my car. I thought I could have most of my mp3's on it. Kenwood uses the fat32 file system, so you are stuck at the 32GB size and you can't read half the usb stick. Just check to see if your device uses fat 32 first. I will have to find another use for it now.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheapest one at the time ($34), but looks like the price just dropped some more

One odd thing, definitely a PRO, but I would not recommend anybody trying this. I accidentally left it the pocket of my shorts, ran it through a full cycle (laundry detergent, soak, rinse, spin, etc) in the washing machine and the drive still works.

Cons: slow on XP - could be exFat issue or large size but my terabyte external HD runs faster.

speed on Windows 7 better than XP
- one time I spent 5 minutes opening a word document.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Some Higher capacity Patriot drives come formatted into exFAT.

Please refer to Microsoft’s website for a hotfix to enable exFAT support on Windows XP. (requires sp2 or higher)

3 out of 5 eggsSome problems

Pros: Cheap, large size

Cons: Not FAT32 formatted

Other Thoughts: I got two of these and planned to use them on several different systems, some new and some old. I had some problems because the drived came formatted with the exFAT file system and not with FAT32. The partitions were tagged as NTFS partitions. No doubt exFAT is better than FAT32, NTFS certainly is. However older Windows NT systems without all the current updates don't understand exFAT, and will claim the drive is unformatted. Because the partition is tagged as NTFS, they will also refuse to format it as FAT32. I used some 3rd party disk management software on a Windows Vista system to change the partition type to FAT32 and reformat as FAT32. This seemed to fix all problems. The unusual formatting is probably what is causing most of the problems reported here, especially for those who use several different computers.
