5 out of 5 eggsAstounding speed

Pros: I ran a complete backup on a new Mushkin 32GB USB3 flash drive 5/16/13, formatted for NTFS. I bought the drive to replace another brand that has been backing up at a max 22-23 MB/s rate. This was only slightly faster than a USB2 drive, which copied files at a max 17-18 MB/s rate. The new Mushkin did the job at an amazing rate that at times spiked as high as 90 MB/s. The entire backup took 9 mins and 19 seconds (559 seconds). The total amount copied was 9.09 GB. So the copy time was 559 seconds for 9.09 GB. This is an average 16.65 MB/s.

I then reformatted the old flash drive I had been using to NTFS and copied my entire My Documents folder. This took 16 minutes and 45 seconds (1,005 seconds) for 11.3 GB. This is an average of 11.5 MB/s. This was a larger amount of data because some files in that folder have been deselected and are not included in my regular backup program.

Both runs were made in the same USB3 port. I found that with both flash drives, some types of file formats copy faster than others. I don't know why. The older flash drive never showed a copy rate higher than 23 MB/s. The Mushkin flash drive would spike as high as 90 MB/s.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Windows 8 Explorer will show you MB/s speed as you are copying files. But this new drive was copying files so fast, it could not give me that speed unless the file was fairly large, giving it time to do the calculation.

5 out of 5 eggsAs advertised

Pros: Fast, consistent, transfer rate as advertised.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: The separate-cap design, while elegant, makes it likely that you'll lose the cap at some point in its lifetime. An always-attached design will probably win Mushkin a few more fans.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: This drive is so much faster than my old corsair usb 2.0 drive. When I plug this into my usb 2.0 slot, the speed is close to 25mb write speed (constant). When plugged into my usb 3.0 slot, the speed shot up to a constant 55mb with burst speed of 67mb.

Cons: Not a con of this flash drive but a con of FAT32 - I hate the 4G file limit

Other Thoughts: I did lots of research before i bought this drive to find out which was the fastest without breaking the bank. This one does not disappoint. I have seen faster usb 3.0 flash drives out there, but they are double or more in price.

Side note: the usable space is only 29G (FAT32 and NTFS)

4 out of 5 eggsGood drive

Pros: It's a fast drive. I can transfer multiple gigabytes in minutes, to and from. I've formatted it multiple times, usually using NTFS, and it works fine.

Cons: Sadly, it's got a big red flashing led that lights up every time access occurs. I wouldn't mind if Mushkin managed to make the led light stay on constantly, or a make a dim one, but it just flashes. All. The. Time. And again, I probably wouldn't mind if I just used this for my computer, but I plug it into my Blu-ray drive to watch videos, and I have to cover up the light because it's too annoying.

Other Thoughts: I can deal with covering up the led - it's not a deal breaker. But still, I tend to think that bright flashy leds are stupid. I really don't need a big red light to help me figure out that my drive works.

5 out of 5 eggsBuilt to last

Pros: Fast, lots of space, and it really lasts. Definitely the USB drive I've ever owned.

Cons: I guess the cap could fight a bit more snug on the back so it doesn't get knocked off as easily, but I haven't lost it yet.

Other Thoughts: I accidentally put this through the wash today after about a year and a half of use and it still works just as well as ever! (Please do not take this as a recommendation to put it through the wash)

2 out of 5 eggsLoose Cap

Pros: Nice Transfer speeds. Fast. I love the fact that the casing is metal

Cons: The cap is a very loose fit. I used the thing once, put it in my pocket, then the next time I pulled it out, the cap flew off and was never to be seen again.

Other Thoughts: I bet there are usb 3 sticks out there every bit as good that have snugly-fitting caps. I am a stickler for such things (I don't like dust on my contacts), and I work in manufacturing, so dust is commonplace. There were cheaper usb sticks out there, I bought this one because I thought it would be high quality, and would protect against the dust... now I'm cap-less in a dusty environment...

5 out of 5 eggsEven USB 2.0 is faster

Pros: This is very fast. I have Windows 8 Pro on an x58 machine. This windows shows the data transfer rate. I have used many flash drives and usually the transfer rate is 5 MBS. This drive routinely has a 20 MBS transfer rate for writing to the thumb drive. I do not have USB 3.0 on this computer. This is four times the transfer rate for the USB 2.0 interface. I do not know if other USB 3.0 flash drives are also this much faster.

Cons: This is not a con. Just something to know. The computer said that there was not enough room to transfer a file. The file was 20 GB and the flash drive had 32 GB. That was an incorrect message. The flash drive was formatted as a FAT32. The biggest size for a file in FAT32 is 4 GB. Reformatting the Mushkin to NTFS fixed the problem.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast and large enough for my needs. Slim design is great for some tight USB ports.

Cons: Slim design: it's easy to lose.

Other Thoughts: USB 3.0 is great but many machines at my work don't support it. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with this.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 32GB. Blazing fast. Mushkin quality.

Cons: It's a bit bigger than I expected. Less compatible with my keychain than my old flash drive
