1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy It/Get your Money Back

Pros: Looks Cool, but thats it.

Cons: It has never worked. Windows XP 32 bit Dell Desktop- does not work. Windows 7 64-bit HP Laptop - does not work. Corsair support is slow to respond, but after a few months I got a replacement. It never worked.

Details: The drive freezes the computer. Computers cannot boot when the drive is installed. Probably the most annoying this that can happen to a USB stick that is not your fault.

1 out of 5 eggsUSB failed and lost all data - 0 Bytes - Invalid Specifications

Pros: Very solid construction. A well protective mono cover that kept contaminates out. Had a firm connection where the male portion of the USB met the frame.

Cons: Thickness of protective casing interfered with other devices when using some dual USB ports. Causing both devices to bend, thus causing wear on the connection joints.

After owning for 1 year and 5 months I decided to format the drive using standard windows 7 NTFS method. Drive FAILED.

Symptoms:

Drive Name: XXXXXXX U167CONTROLLER USB

Clicking the drive letter in Windows Explorer returns the following error message:

Please insert a disk into drive X:.

Attempting to format the drive returns the warning:

There is no disk in drive X.
Insert a disk, and then try again.

The drive properties show:
Type: Removable Disk
File system: Unknown
Used space 0 bytes
Free space 0 bytes
Capacity 0 bytes

The Volumes tab shows:
Type: Removable
Status: No Media
Partition style: Not Applicable
Capacity: 0 MB
Unallocated space: 0 MB
Reserved space: 0 MB

I tried doing file, partition, and external card recoveries but to no avail. Nothing could "connect" to the drive.

Finaly after loads of research, mad forum posters, recovery tools, ect. I finally found one program that did work to format the drive!!!! Pen drive repair allowed me to access the drive again!!! No more flashing light. Would open in explorer!

But my data...my misfortune of having only a month old backup. I have lost allot of important data. Very complex CAD/CAM drawings and CNC code. Hours of work. There was no way I was going to, without any hope of recovering my data, send this back to CORSAIR which has been ramming RMA responses to everyone. I should have backed up more but I had a false sense of quality. I have almost all my jump drives to this today in great working order (unless I have physically broken by accident) and a few that have survived the washer!

I took the most care and protection of this drive because of its contents. I am disappointed in this product, but my greatest dissatisfaction is the lack of technical support from CORSAIR. At least helping your customers try to resolve this with a little of your own research. From my business perspective this saves everyone, no? Faster resolution, no shipping and handling, higher satisfaction, a sustainable product.

Other Thoughts: It was great while it worked, but for the 10's of hours of work lost. Much less the hours of time spent trying data recovery programs and doing research to revive my situation. I give this 1 egg.

I wanted to provide this summary of my research for someone that will need it.

5 out of 5 eggs5/5

Pros: This flash drive is very sturdy. Speeds are consistent and this device is reliable.

Cons: The shell is a little big so you might encounter a situation where other usb ports will be blocked from this usb key.

1 out of 5 eggsUtter Fail

Pros: Was inexpensive, seems durable

Cons: Died within 6 months. The very common issue of just flashing the LED. No system detects it. Huge number of reports of this behavior. Worse yet the RMA process sucks. For the price I just threw it away and will not be buying corsair again. My 1GB voyager is still going strong, so this unit particular unit is just a bad model. Unfortunate.

5 out of 5 eggsCorsair is excellent!

Pros: I'm on my 4th (I think) Corsair flash drive. I keep filling them up and need to get a larger one. Every drive has worked flawlessly! I buy them to hold everything - mainly all my work in education (backed up on other machines) but this is my daily use drive. I cart it everywhere and plug it into several machines on a given day. I've never had a problem. I filled up a 16 GB and now need more space.

I like the rubber case - the weight and feel make it obvious unlike some of the hard plastic ones.

Cons: If anything... I've lost caps. But Corsair has always been excellent in replacing them.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked well ... for about a year

Pros: While it worked, it worked well.

Cons: During the last couple of months, I noticed it wouldn't always be recognized right away when first inserted into a USB port and would need to be reinserted. Tonight, it stopped working; while plugged into a USB port, it slowly becomes hotter and hotter.

Other Thoughts: I purchased it from newegg on 5-19-2012. It lasted two days shy of a year. Is that long enough? I think not. Sure, USB flash drives can be fickle devices, but if it doesn't last at least two years then it's a waste of money.
