4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-128GB

Pros: Clean design, nice casing materials, and fast transfers.

USB 2 read/write: 20-34mb/s
USB 3 read 150mb/s

Burst transfers up to 250mb/s or more.

Been running great for 4 months now.

Cons: Case is too wide, which I could thankfully tell before purchase, so had to buy small extension cable to be sure it can easily fit in all of the different computer port sizes I need connect to. Also helps with hard to reach spots.

Had some trouble with speed in the beginning, and I'm not sure how or why, but this thing literally had to get "warmed up" before it functioned properly, and reported correct transfer speeds....

Copying, deleting, formatting, changing cluster size, and working with Corsair tech support on and off for over 2 weeks trying to understand why the transfer progress bar would only move after a new file started, or 45sec+ passed. Write speeds on USB 2 were also low, 10-14mb/s.

Finally after about 3 weeks of usage and testing in random computers, bam! all of the sudden ut started to fly like it should, and progress updates functioned normal again. I've near seen anything like it, and have to dock 1 egg due to the hassle of all the troubleshooting. Thankfully all has been fine since.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat...

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-128GB

Pros: Speed - big files like movies
Read 500Mbps+
Write 100Mbps+
Transfer 3GB movie in just few seconds

Cons: Speed - random small files, like power points
Read 80Mbps+
Write 40Mbps average
Backing up a documents folder takes a little time because of little files

Other Thoughts: Seems to be really fast at large files, but on the slower side with random little files. I have the same model in 64GB as well, and it behaves similarly.
Overall, worth the money!

5 out of 5 eggsHUGE flash drive

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-128GB

Pros: Never thought I would see a 128GB flash.
Write and read speeds within specs.
Low price.
Trusted brand.

Cons: None, need newer hardware to get the 3.0 benefit.
Long term use not certain.

Other Thoughts: This unit is my first 128GB flash. Out of the package speed and memory tests look great. I am a bit leery or putting so much data on a portable device. Easy to leave in a port. I will update when I have more time with this unit.

3 out of 5 eggsHot Deal may be too HOT

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-128GB

Pros: The price was a very good value($30) for a 128GB flash drive.

Cons: I use this drive for backup as I imagine most would. During my initial backup to the flash drive, I transferred over 100GB of data. Transfer rates were normal for a flash drive, i.e. relatively slow, so the entire initial data transfer took several hours. After the transfer was complete, I removed the drive and noticed that the drive was very, very hot to the touch, particularly the metal usb plug. I noticed during other large data transfers(10-20GB), the flash drive exhibited similar heating. Given the excessive heating on sustained writes makes one wonder about the long term viability of this flash drive.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-128GB

Pros: Decent speed, on USB 2.0 ports I see about 32MB/s. On USB3.0 ports I see about 53MB/s.

Cons: There are two cons, and why I give it 4 eggs. First the drive is thick. The USB ports are too tight on my Asrock's MB to plug in this drive with another USB device above or below it. Sure you can force it, but its way too tight. If you plan to plug in another device right next to this drive, you might want to look for another drive. Also the drive can retract while trying to plug it in. This can be annoying while trying to attach this drive it a tight spot behind a tower. I have to use my finger to prevent the drive from retracting while plugging it in. Not super difficult, but an annoyance.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Drive for Blu Ray USB

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-128GB

Pros: Decent speed drive, definitely not the fastest but fast enough for $30. I can put a lot of movies on it which is why I bought it and 5 yr warranty for peace of mind.

Cons: For someone to carry around on their key chain this is not for you. But, to keep in as a drive for a computer, laptop, TV, Media player then your in business.

Other Thoughts: It was on sale for $29.99 and 128 GB just what I was looking for. My first USB 3.0 so I hope it last.

4 out of 5 eggsCompetent drive at good price

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-128GB

Pros: -- activity light
-- self-closing cap

Cons: -- no lanyard
-- end of USB port still open

Other Thoughts: There are 3 things about USB drives important to me: form, size, and speed.

Form: this drive is physically big compared to many. It’s thick plastic case is sturdy enough, but may block closely spaced USB ports beside or above it, especially on thin laptops. Although I dislike separate caps, this oversliding snap cap cover enlarges the dimensions significantly. The cap goes over the USB plug, but the end stays open to dirt and elements. A subtle blue light tells when activity happens. (Although I like the slim, metal drives from other vendors, I do miss the activity light on those.) It has a lanyard ring, but no lanyard. It would not fit on a thick key ring or carabiner.

Size: it comes with a single blank partition, only exFAT formatted for compatibility. In 10 seconds it reformats to NTFS for large files to backup (like movies). For the size of a small SSD hard drive, it holds a lot! “Corsair” pops up immediately upon plug in. I like manufacturers giving these non-generic names to separate from other devices.

Speed: It works well, but the performance is average. This drive averaged about 45MB/s reads and writes about 25 MB/s on my system. The Corsair GTs are much faster at double the cost.

Corsair makes excellent memory products that should last a long time. It has a 5 year warranty. It also costs less than an external 128GB SSD and is much smaller/lighter to carry around.

4 out of 5 eggsPackaging needs improvement

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-128GB

Pros: Electrical performance is up to spec, fast and easy to format and use. USB 3.0 speed makes this flash drive fine for moving large files. The performance can't be beat for the price.

Cons: The slide retraction mechanism has poor detents, the drive tries to retract when you plug it in. The hole for a key ring is far too small---don't these folks carry their flash drives with their keys?

Other Thoughts: Good electrical performance spoiled by poor packaging.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat bang for buck! Weak slider lock...

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-128GB

Pros: High capacity! Fast!

Cons: Slider moves easily when inserting into USB port. Not formatted NTFS/exFAT out of the box for large files. Thick body - it will block adjacent USB ports!

Other Thoughts: Great capacity per dollar! Rubberized grip really gives it a nice, premium feel. I like that its a slider - no cap to lose! However, it is too easy for it to slide out while pushing it into a USB port so watch out for that. Also, it comes formatted FAT32 by default; not exFAT or NTFS so if you want to load up files that are larger than 4gb (i.e. blu-ray rips or game installers) you must format it first!

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 1.5 years of light use

This review is from: CORSAIR Voyager Slider 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model CMFSL3B-128GB

Pros: You'll see my initial review of this drive back on 10/2/2013 (Justin E.)

It was great while it lasted.

Cons: plugged it in this morning to copy some files and it isn't recognized. Nothing happens when I connect it. I get a standard hardware detected notice, but no disk.

Luckily, everything was backed up elsewhere but this is pretty unacceptable.
