2 out of 5 eggsSlower than Expected

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/16GB

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Seems to write @ ~1/2 spped of Gen 3 USB 3 16BG Kingston stick. Tried on 2 Win7 PC's on mult. ports. Maxes out @~10MB/s writes where Gen 3 averages 18~20 MB/s on same large file writes. For example, copying 6 1GB .VOB files on G4 takes 10 minutes vs <5 for G3. Same for 2 sticks.

5 out of 5 eggs100% Reliability

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/16GB

Pros: I work in the IT field and this drive was purchased for moving files that range in size from 50MB to 14GB (programs and virtual machines) from PC to PC for diagnostic work.

The drive has not failed me yet, and I foresee several years of continuous, reliable use, before a replacement thumb drive is needed.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Today, thumb drives can be purchased for incredibly cheap prices; there have been a couple of times that I regretted not purchasing a larger drive (128GB), however, if you need a dirt cheap thumb drive with not so dirt cheap qualities, look no further than this thumb drive.

Kingston has been making great, reliable products for years, and I look forward to purchasing from them in the future.

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/16GB

Pros: It was recognized.

Cons: Couldn't get it to work in any of our computers. It says it needs formatted, cannot format because it says it is copy protected. I Googled and tried a couple of fixes and still can't get it to work.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the DTIG4 flash drive. If clearing the read-only attribute and reformatting the drive fails, than there is most likely something going on with the drive that is preventing it from being written to producing the write protected error. We stand by all our products and can replace the faulty drive under it's five year warranty. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

5 out of 5 eggsGood art medium

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/16GB

Pros: I ordered multiple of these drives, all arrived within technical specifications and proved satisfactory.

The white external shell of these thumb drives was chosen specifically for artistic purposes. The guts were easily removable from the cover, so more "heavy duty" treatments such as polymer submersion could be applied without risking the electronic components.

Cons: ABS polymer isn't great as a bonding substrate for some artistic media. For poorly bonding paints and glues, surface roughening and pre-treating was required. Not a con per se, just something for other creative types to keep in mind.

Without the metal USB A male connection, the head is prone to pop off (which is annoying when you have it dunked in a jar of polymer). It is recommended to support the insides with clay or something similar to prevent this.

4 out of 5 eggsKingston DataTraveler Generation 4 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/16GB

Pros: -Works great
-Fast transfer speeds , transferred my exe files in a blink
-Good size
-Cheap

Cons: -The Cap I can see getting lost over time as I`m sure it will
get loose and fall off
- Had to try and make a con , that's the best I could do at
this time.

Other Thoughts: make sure you format it and change from Fat32 will transfer faster at NTFS
Overall I`m happy with my purchase I think the hardware itself will be perfect for what I need it for
Thank you Kingston >:-)

5 out of 5 eggsLow Cost, Works Great

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/16GB

Pros: I tried several inexpensive flash drives to provide for my customers. Most were junk. I needed something dependable to create Recovery Drives. These work great. I reorder a few every couple of months.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsNot Reliable

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler Generation 4 16GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model DTIG4/16GB

Pros: Not super small or overly large, fits on a key ring (lanyard).

Cons: Large files (9-10 Gb) become corrupt. After running into the issue once I thought it was a fluke, tried formatting and coping several times to the first bad drive, no go. Second drive didn't initially have a problem but after about 4 days quickly ran into the same issue. This model either has cheaper memory or a bad part. Either way would not recommend for anyone writing large files and is looking for reliability (remember this is 2 bad drives that I purchased). The file I tested with was a good file, spending the extra 20 minutes to write to a USB2 drive had no issues.

Other Thoughts: Kingston use to be a decent brand from what I remember, hopefully this product is just a odd ball.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Karl,
I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the DTIG4 flash drives. We perform 100% testing on all of our products to ensure quality and reliability, as detailed here: http://www.kingston.com/us/company/testing . The drives would typically come formatted to FAT32 by default and require reformatting to NTFS or exFAT in order to copy over a single file larger than 4GB. Outside of that there should be no issue copying and storing large files. We are here to help and can troubleshoot with you to determine what may be causing the issue. If needed the drives, can be replaced under their five year warranty. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for choosing Kingston as your upgrade partner.
