The Plextor M3 SATA 6Gb/s SSD series provides read/write speeds up to 525/445 MB/s in sequential mode and up to 70,000/65,000 IOPS in random mode. M3 SSDs uses the latest SATA 6Gb/s (SATA III) interface, Marvell’s server-grade controller, and Toshiba 24nm Toggle NAND flash. Also supported by the flash is a 1.8V power mode, providing the M3 with extremely low-power consumption making it a very eco-friendly product.

The M3 features exclusive firmware with True Speed, including Plextor’s proprietary Bad Block Management, Global Wear Leveling, and Instant Restore technologies that optimize performance. True Speed is designed to prevent drastic drops in read/write speeds that normally occur with SSDs after prolonged use or when data becomes heavily fragmented. True Speed technology will maintain the M3’ high performance and read/write speeds at like-new levels throughout the life of the drive.

Plextor strives to exceed industry standards with rigorous benchmark testing; before leaving the factory, each Plextor SSD is put through a 20-hour high temperature burn-in test and an intense simulation of real world environments. As a result, Plextor SSDs have a 0.59% average annual failure rate, which is one of the lowest in the industry. The M3 offers a perfect solution for businesses, power users, serious gamers, system integrators, and anyone who demands a drive with high efficiency and fast performance. The M3 is available in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB capacities.

Plextor's no-compromise customer policy includes a five-year ironclad warranty and the highest standards of customer support.

Using the latest generation of the SATA 6Gbps interface, M3 is backward compatible with SATA 3Gb/s and SATA 1.5Gb/s. 3 out of 5 eggsGood drive, but eventually failed

Pros: - Fast, easy to install.
- 256MB has been plenty of storage for Windows apps and a few games.
- 5 year warranty (hopefully they will honor it).

Cons: Failed after 1.75 years. Waiting on warranty replacement.

Other Thoughts: I know this model is outdated, but figured I'd post it anyway.

Cons: Nothing.

Other Thoughts: It has been utterly, completely, 100% reliable, fast, and stable right out of the box. No updates necessary, nothing.

5 out of 5 eggsMUST BUY

Pros: I have had multiple SSDs from intel, OCZ. But this Plextor is amazing. Its very fast, my samsung 7 series laptop shutdown within 10 seconds, and starts in 12 seconds. There is no lag. Instant launch. I love the fact it has a 5 year warranty. Its thin for people who wanna upgrade slimmer laptops/ultrabook.

I love their firmware concept of true speed, its so far seems to work well. I am getting sustained read of atleast 485mb/s, and write is variable averaging 380mb/s.

Its cheaper compared to other ssd, specially intel. I had a intel i got for 200dollars back in 2010, but it failed within 1 month. Plextor actually tests their ssds before they ship it to a retailer. And looks like its true, their faliure rate is very low compared to others. I am sure new intels are better than old generation intel.

Recommended buy!!!!!!!!

Cons: None so far, specially if you compare specs on paper vs real life performance.

Other Thoughts: Some people might be like 550MB/s on paper, but when it comes to real life, those SSDs don;t live up to those numbers.
Plextor actually sustains those speeds it claims under load or long term use.

5 out of 5 eggsFour month follow up review

Pros: Solid and reliable SSD. No issues at all in the four months since install. Still maintains its speed, so steady state performance is great. Installed in the PC I built for my parents--see Other thoughts for the specs. Pretty killer system for a couple of 70 year olds, huh? My Dad is in love with it. He cannot stand the idea of using a HDD ever again.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Rig installed into:

Gigabyte GA-Z77MX-D3H, F15 BIOS
Team 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 RAM, 1.5V, XMP
Core i5-3570K, default clock
Plextor M3 256GB SSD as primary and ONLY drive
Sapphire Toxic Edition Radeon 6950, unlocked to 6970
Seasonic M12II, modular 520W PSU
GE wireless keyboard and mouse, micro USB receiver
Cooler Master 430 case, and still using the blingy fan!
Biostar USB 3.0 bracket in 3.5" bay

System is running Win7 x64 OEM Home Premium Edition

5 out of 5 eggsPlextor M3 SSD

Pros: I have owned many SSDs over the past few years. This was my first SSD from a second tier brand. As with all my previous SSDs, everything works just fine. This one is installed in a mac mini running OS X and Windows 7. It is much faster than the Momentus XT I used previously.

Cons: Kind of on the expensive side. You can easily find a cheaper one.

Other Thoughts: All in all, very happy with this drive. Will buy Plextor again.

5 out of 5 eggsSecond One - Still Solid

Pros: Plextor stability, speed, and dependability. How could I go wrong? This is my second one of these!

Cons: Zero

Other Thoughts: After using my first amazing Plextor ssd, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy a second one that was on sale AND came with a rebate! I cloned my first Plextor to this one using EASUS ToDo Backup, the cloning time for these two ssds was 43 minutes! All is good!
