4 out of 5 eggsI <3 my IronKey!

Pros: The IronKey is an excellent flash drive for anyone concerned with the security of their data. The construction is solid (more so than any flash drive I have ever seen), the encryption is strong, and the little additional features such as the password manager are simply amazing. My IronKey, as part of my key-ring, survived tons of abuse including being dropped on countless occasions and submersion in water, all with nothing more than some scuffing. Customer service is fast and won't give you the run-around like some companies. My favorite feature is the on board Firefox. I am a college student and I use my IronKey on campus, at home, and at work every single day. By using the on board Firefox, I have been able to carry my numerous bookmarks and passwords with me wherever I go.

Cons: After a year and a half, my IronKey glitched and destroyed all my data, presenting it in an odd encrypted form. I reformatted the secure volume, which made it work flawlessly again, but a week later my data was again mangled. I contacted IronKey, and with very little hassle they shipped me a new drive and I had it in my hands only 2 days later! Bottom line, as with any storage device, REMEMBER TO BACK UP YOUR DATA. Also note that the on board Firefox is slow, you will particularly notice it on Flash heavy websites. IronKey is usually a bit behind on updates, and it took them forever to get to Firefox 3.0, but face it, do you really need the newest version on your flash drive right when it comes out? I, for one, am happy to wait.

Other Thoughts: I have recommended IronKeys to many of my friends, and I would recommend them to you. An IronKey is the best solution for carrying your important data with you, while ensuring that it is secure. The on board web browser and password manager will forever alter how you use the Internet, wherever you go!

2 out of 5 eggsStill does not support FireFox 3

Pros: Good encryption; fairly speedy data transfer rate; good construction

Cons: I have owned the 2gb version for over a year now. I have a few cons: 1) Although the drive has performed well in general, there has been a visible lack of recent software updates. Although Firefox 3.0 has been out now for almost a year; Ironkey still lacks support for it. The comment posted on their support FAQ that advises not to upgrade, its dated June 2008. For a USB drive that costs this much, it should support FF 3.0 by now. This is perplexing, and leads one to question the technological capability and basic foundation of the device and the designers. 2) Although back up files are encrypted, the file names are displayed in plain view on the back up media. This is a little bizarre, and at first I didn't think much of it until I went through my backup and some of the filenames gave away more info than I was comfortable with. This too should have been addressed by now. 3) You now only get 1 year of secure browsing in included...previously this was free lifetime

Other Thoughts: Overall not a bad device, but suffers from lack of development through improvements and updates that enhance functionality. May be best to purchase a cheaper drive and fully encrypt it with software such as TrueCrypt.

4 out of 5 eggsNot perfect

Pros: Seems to be fairly secure and fast for a flash drive. Since you only get ten tries, it is a good idea to keep the MD5 hash in a well hidden location (not their website) so you can get an infinite number of tries just in case you don't remember it exactly—don't forget too much or you will be here past the end of time trying to figure it out. Fashionable as well, and has survived some rough testing, including immersion in alcohol.

Cons: The part that attaches to the keychain has literally eroded off. Given what the IronKey is made of, I am quite surprised that such a thing could happen under normal usage conditions. Also, I don't see anything here about a warranty or on IronKey's website, but I hope there is one. {{Perhaps a support person could answer this.}}

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Very solid build, software works flawlessly on XP with no need to fiddle with directory-level encryption. Fast. This is exactly what I've been looking for in a USB drive.

Cons: My only minor quibble, and it's really minor, is that this drive uses two drive letters (e.g. H: for the encryption software and I: for the drive itself). Other than that it's flawless.

Other Thoughts: I got the 4Gb version but would love to have had a choice of 8 or even 16Gb.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Includes a password manager that (usually) auto-fills website login pages.

Cons: Does not work properly in several computers I used. Lack of support for this condition.

Other Thoughts: For a product advertised to let you browse safely from any computer, it falls way short. Beware, will charge a restocking fee if you too have the same experience as I did.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well, expensive

Pros: A very tough drive, not afraid to keep it on a keychain. Decent storage capacity, and the password manager is great. The best part is the built in secure browser that can get through most firewalls. Great for being in public areas with secure documents.

Cons: Expensive... and not that much storage space for the price

Other Thoughts: Password manager gets confused from time to time, multiple entrys and such. Fairly easy to remove the entries though, and just go back to the page to re-enter the accounts again.

5 out of 5 eggsHow did I live without this?

Pros: As other reviewers have noted, does all it advertises on their web-site.

Cons: No handy mechanism to hang/attach cap when in use. Potential concern for space allocated for storing browser passwords.

Other Thoughts: Newegg could serve this product better describing more of its features under the Specifications tab. Does a lot more than just store and encrypt data files (e.g. secure web-browsing FREE for the first year and then [currently] $24/yr thereafter). I look forward to their support of Linux whose develop is underway.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Does everything they quote it to do. Its fast, very sturdy, pretty cool looking too. Easy to use, waterproof, runs all kinds of portable apps! ( I use this to cary around all my technical apps for a computer security and repair company I run. And I love the fact that if I were to loose it no compettitor would have a chance of stealing my apps and files from it. Secure TOR network browsing is great, and much faster then I've seen it on the public networks you get slower access to TOR. Backup options right from the key, reminders over email to update you password, emails if failed logins happen on your key with IP address of failure. I love it :)

Cons: Wish it was like 8-16 GB :) but its perfect for my needs as is. Wish the cap was on a lanyard or something. Cant really use it to boot any USB bootable OS like BackTrack due to the encrypted nature of all its files and no means (on the keys software) to decrypt them before or during boot time on a pc.

Other Thoughts: Get portable apps on this thing! you will love it! Take everything you use with you and keep all your settings! Leave no traces on other pc's!

5 out of 5 eggsironkey 4gb

Pros: excellent design.....memory chip lasts for more than 100,000 read write cycles.....(lesser chips commonly only last for 5000)

Cons: expensive....but worth it.....

Other Thoughts: I have had this now for more than a month.....impossible to save data that is not encrypted....(this is a huge plus IMHO)....will use this till it dies and buy usb I have ever used...

5 out of 5 eggsThis is a great product!

Pros: While some parts of their website will give you the marketing words like "military-grade" encryption the nitty-gritty technical details show this drive to be secure, fast and reliable.

I love the fast transfer speeds on my Ironkey, making it much more useful then my cruzer-micro.

Cons: No linux support yet, though they have promised that Linux and Mac support is on the way. Overall, this is not a show stopper.

Other Thoughts: I love my Ironkey and will use it until it dies or gets lost, then I'll buy another.
