5 out of 5 eggsGood Inexpensive NAS drive

Pros: 3 TB version large capacity
Simple to use
Easy to navigate to your drives
Ability to have multiple users from the household

Cons: Have to figure a lot of things out on your own.

Other Thoughts: This is a great network drive that all of my network devices such as Dish Hopper recognize and can play music or watch video or view photos from anywhere in the world. Also have GoFlex app on my phone and can stream anywhere I have service. I have the 3 TB version of this drive and you can increase storage just by adding a USB drive to the USB input. You can even connect a USB hub and add multiple drives or a printer. Very versatile. Newegg sold out but amaz** still has them.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid and Quick

Pros: I did not buy this for the NAS portion persay I droped another drive on the base. I pulled the drive and slapped it into my machine. The fastest mechanical hard disk in my rig. I have 2 of these drives and will get a third. 3 of these in raid 0 will most likely push well into the 400MB/s range. When copying from an SSD I see well into the 300MB/s realtime, not some benchmark.

Cons: None, still working like a champ.

Other Thoughts: Main O/S: Ultimate Edition Linux
Mainboard: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX TUF (The Ultimate Force) R2.0
CPU: AMD FX 8150 Bulldozer Eight Core Black Edition
Ram: 16 GB GSkill Ripjaws Dual Channel DDR3 2133 (un-ganged mode)
Video: ATI 7770HD GHZ Edition 1GB PCI 3.0 (main card) various others for testing
Hard Disks: Over 15 TB Mechanical and Multiple SSD's.
Raid: Onboard 10 sata / e-sata ports, HighPoint RocketRAID 640 PCI-Express 2.0 x4 SATA III (6.0Gb/s)
2TB X 3 Raid 0 / 3TB X 2 Raid 0 (custom software mirrored)
Monitors: 28" HannsG HH281, 28" HannsG HZ281, 19" Touchscreen
730 Watt modular PSU

5 out of 5 eggsVastly Under-rated

Pros: I don't normally rate items but when I saw the low eggs on this product I have to say that I've used mine for 2 or 3 years and find it fantastic. I use mine with a laser printer attached. I can access my data over the Internet from any computer or even my phone.

Cons: None really. I'm not sure if the current version are still USB 2.0 or not, if not 3.0 should be an upgrade.

Other Thoughts: A second USB port would be great allowing the user to add an additional drive and a printer (or two drives).

4 out of 5 eggsEasy to use

Pros: Easy setup and works well over most networks.
Fast and secure (if you want it to be)
Can be set up to access outside of your network.

Cons: Streaming media seemed to be a little choppy (a short pause ever 20 minutes or so) however this was not my main use. My network is good and even tried with a good 1GB enterprise class switch and still had some slowness with streaming.

Other Thoughts: After about a year i had no need for this so I installed ARCH Linux and customized it for fun there are some very neat things that can be done however you can also render the network dock useless with one wrong move (which i did). No worries, The 2TB hard drive inside of the plastic case is was removed and used as an internal drive for backups on my main PC.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid it

Pros: none really, since it constantly disconnects itself from my network or locks up.

Cons: the real issue with it is that it just won't stay connected to the network. It constantly locks up and I have to be power-cycling it for it to start responding again, and even then that rarely lasts the day. It is JUNK and I have totally stopped using it. 4 out of 5 times I need to access it over the network its not available. Even the seagate software that comes with it says "please connect the drive". Don't waste your money...find a NAS device that works.

4 out of 5 eggsReliable and Extendable

Pros: Very reliable. Owned for nearly 2 years now, and the drive has been running 24/7 except for between when the power goes out and I turn it back on. Thin Linux OS that is easy to gain root access and modify to your liking (additional/improved services, server protocols, transmission, etc.) Plus, it's prett cheap and has gigabit ethernet.

Cons: The DLNA server that comes with it is trash and needs to be replaced/updated out of the box. The actual Seagate interface through the web/android/etc is painfully slow compared to what you can do with a little modding (everything appears to initially route through Seagate servers nothing like cutting out the middle man to speed things up)

Other Thoughts: Think of this not so much as a complete product, but a cheap, power efficient, bare bones 2TB, 128MB ram, 1GHZ microserver. As long as you're not scared of a little command line work, walkthroughs are available for most of the mods/installs you'll want to do on the wiki.

3 out of 5 eggsGood value for $; not perfect; SW incomplete

Pros: Simple, cheap works well unattended after initial setup, USB port for printer and expanded storage. Only one USB port but you can attach a switch and plug in several items. It's a Linux device so a simple hack gives you direct access if you're so inclined. Don't know why others have had trouble, but it's worked fine for over year for me. It's a good device for simple home use and requires no technical knowledge. Also streams music and video. Caveat - it depends on your network - so if your network is slow and patchy, streaming won't go well.

Cons: Backup software is a nag version, constantly nagging you to buy more.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

Pros: Plug in. It works.
As cheap as bare 2 GB drive
Let me turn off a 100+Watt old box using as a NAS
Allows remote access to files.
Pretty fair speed for price using all wired intranet access.

Cons: Nice if could easily access linux system
too bad not USB-3 for added disk
A bit rigid in Folders/Shares, but for this price, who cares.

Other Thoughts: Got it locally for even less then egg price -- that doesn't happen often. Will update review if problems develop. Didn't mess w the software, just looked up router IP assignment and used browser to set it up. Have better backup software to use and files are just drag and drop. Files for sharing might be easier w their software, but segateshare site lets you select what you share. Obviously if it dies soon, I will not be happy, but after reading a fair # of not so hot reviews, I am glad I took a shot. Buying local got me free of any RMA and shipping concerns

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate 2tb goflex

Pros: none

Cons: The drive didn't spin up and was beeping. Checked software and with seagate. Read other reviews online you will find these drives fail all the time and mine was brand new and didn't work out of the box. I will not buy another seagate drive ever. I hardly ever review products but I had to say something about this since others had had problems and I decided to ignore their warnings. Read the reviews about this drive before buying
