This review is from: BUFFALO LS-WX1.0TL/R1 1TB LinkStation Duo Network Storage
Pros: Raid 1,0 support. Hot swapping of drives is allowed. You can upgrade these drive to 2 TB (1TBx2). This is what I did. Fast transfer rate, over ethernet from PC to linkstation about 10Mb~12Mb/s transfer rate. DLNA support. Shows up nicely as a DLNA device on the network. Quiet.
Cons: Was a little finicky about how you add new drives. This requires the HDDs to have a XFS files system installed. The utility buffalo provides is faulty. The current drives must already be in an existing RAID setup. First create a RAID array with the original disks if one has not already been created. Power down and ONLY put in one disk that you want to add to the system. Boot it back up and then go into the RAID setup and delete the existing array. When you do this it should format the new drive as well and then allow you to create a new array with these 2 disks. Now if you want to add another new disk you have to repeat the same procedure. So if you want to change the 2 500GB disks to 2 1TB disks, you have to do this procedure twice until you get both drives formatted and into an array.
Other Thoughts: Why buy the linkstation live when you can have redundancy here and replace the disks?
