1) Does it support iSCSI?
2) Will it accept 2 Tb disks?  I have four Hitachi 2 Tb SATA 3Gb/s 7200 RPM drives.

I installed 3 3tb WD SATA drives in mine and after the original auto config I just had to change to a raid 5 and it was very usert friendly to accomplish. 
I don't know if it will accept iSCSI but the SATA's will work and according to the spec's it will take up to 4 tb SATA disks.....

The list of supported drives is available on Buffalo's product resource page for the LinkStation Pro Quad - this is the same enclosure as seen here, but with hard drives already installed.
I can tell you that there are no 4TB drives listed on that document. However, I have a 1.5TB Western Digital Green drive installed in this enclosure that is not listed there either, but it is recognized and works perfectly fine.
Compatibility has more to do with the individual drive's controller than its capacity. If you can determine the controller used on the 4TB drive is shared by a drive on that list, chances are it will function normally.

What is a typical idle/active power usage? Is it possible to configure the drives spin down to idle when the data is not being accessed?

It is pretty flexible. You control it through the NAS Navigator front end. I have my desktop system set to start up when I start one of my office systems. Likewise it shuts down when I shut down the office. You can also set up times of the day for it to run. My server office they run 24/7/365. Make sure you have NAS drives running inside the box. I use Seagate NAS drives in my systems. The NAS navigator is browser front end. It's not too hard to use. Also keep the system cool, don't bury it so it can not breath.

The literature states "LinkStation NAS System includes µTorrent..." Can any user of the device confirm the utorrent software version installed supports proxy server connections?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it does support proxy connections. The BitTorrent client is a bit older, and is embedded in the device's management UI - it opens in its own tab in your browser. It has all the features of the native client, but in a web-interface. I don't see any version info for the BitTorrent client, though. Looks like it's only a few minor revisions behind the most current. (I don't use it, though)
Additionally, I'm running RAID5 with 3TB drives in all bays, and it's been excellent so far. I think this is well worth the price, despite the minor shortcomings of the user manual and other issues people have mentioned.

This from the data sheet online. I do not know if it can be upgraded. Some folks said it is hard mounted to the board. You may want to e-mail Buffalo to confirm this. I am running two of these units, no problems so far.

I've had it for about a month so far, and have not had any problems. I'm only running 2 drives in JBOD currently until I'm confident there will be no data problems. Looks good so far.
I will review once I've had more time to test, but here's some key points:
Any drive added to the enclosure will be REFORMATTED - you CANNOT add drives with existing data.
Uses XFS which will be virtually invisible to most users, but may be unfamiliar to some tinkerers.
Administration and Web Access user interfaces are a bit dated and clunky - but functional.
Sleep/Wake timer is partially broken as it is hard-coded to a particular time-zone. You can work around it once you calculate the time offset from your own time zone. I've also read some complaints that it doesn't reliably sleep/wake even when you figure that all out, but I haven't tested this myself.
Runs very cool and quiet.
Solid build quality. Feels a bit better than the average consumer-grade device.
Well worth the price when on sale/promo.

- What kind of HDD needed here?, 
- Can I use 4 PCIE SSD so I can maximize the speed?

You can't use PCI SSD's in this, it would require 2.5in standard SSD Drives. Even then, It only has 1 gigabit of bandwidth through it's network interface, which in the real world will be around 110MB/Sec, so it's hardly worth using ssd's at all.

This is really designed for large capacity spinning disks.
