Working great
- Pros: I've had it for 2 months on my network and it has about 1TB used out of 1.3t (4x500g Samsung in XRaid). FTP has been working great as has the gigabit lan. Not a single minute of downtime that I didn't intentionally or accidentally cause. No errors reported. I rarely hear the fan.
- Cons: Even though I don't have it set to spin down the drives, every now and then when I first connect to it, it can take a few (10-15) seconds to respond. After that it works fine until I leave it alone for a while.
- Other Thoughts: Easy set up and share creation. I think I may add some more memory (using the default 256). That seems to be the only speed bottleneck on large file/quantity transfers.
Better than nothing
- Pros: My second Infrant ReadyNAS NV+ unit. Easier than building your own file server and better than other Home/SMB NAS solutions on the market.
- Cons: Not as flexible as building your own server. Unit arrived with loose memory chip. Very small window in which to setup disks. Don't let system use it's defaults since disks will not come online. Always force unit to factory default to setup drives as you want. Can be very tricky to setup.
- Other Thoughts: No stars for Newegg this time. Newegg shipping is fast but anyone can slap a Laser printed shipping label on a vendor's unsealed box and hand it to UPS. Didn't find anything missing in mine, but shame on Newegg for shipping a $$$ device without putting it in a plain brown box.
Good, solid product
- Pros: Very easy to configure.
Very easy to secure. Very easy to manage.
- Cons: Throughput on Gbit LAN is slower than I'd like at ~7MBps, but I sling Terabytes of multimedia data across my network. My throughput across my LAN can, and has exceeded 45MBps (sustained), but not to this unit.
- Other Thoughts: For what this product is, and what it does, and the ease of use of it, the cost is easily justifiable. I spend 10+X this on high perf systems to achieve high performance bandwidth and throughput. I'm using 4 500GB Seagate drives in a RAID5 array as an online backup system. It just works - its performance is it's only negative.
