Great for HTPCs
- Pros: It actually works before the operating system loads, so you can use it in your BIOS (if your BIOS loads USB drivers). You don't even have to install the software as long as your OS supports standard USB HIDs.
If you do install the software, you now have a Bluetooth dongle that you can use with up to 7 devices at a time.
Excellent range (works 20+ feet through a wall).
Keyboard is THIN as paper. Comfortable contoured design.
No discernable input lag on keyboard or mouse.
Doesn't include numpad, to save space on your desk!!
- Cons: Takes up nearly the same space as a standard keyboard ANYWAY, even though it has no numpad.
Keyboard has "Navigation Pad" that works in two modes: Touch mode and scroll mode. Neither modes work very well to move the cursor around, but I suppose they're adequate when sitting on your sofa.
It seems that not all keyboard buttons are reassignable using the software. Perhaps fixable if MS provides updated software?
You can set off the touch-sensitive function keys without actually touching them.
There is no dedicated Insert key; you need to hit Fn+8. Yet, they made the Delete key twice as large as it needs to be.
Mouse should have more buttons.
You must place the mouse on the charging station, which means you can't use it. They should just have a small port on the front of the mouse that you plug a cord into, so you can charge it and use it at the same time. But the battery lasts several [work] days per charge, so it shouldn't be an issue.
- Other Thoughts: Comes with 4xAA alkaline batteries for keyboard and 1xAA NiMH battery for mouse. There are power switches on the underside of the mouse and keyboard, but I never bother with them. I'm sure they go into standby mode when you don't touch them for a while. MS says the keyboard lasts 4-8 months on the alkalines.
Keyboard lays flat; it does not have legs to tilt it. I am not putting this as a con because I promise you that flat is a more natural position (just raise your chair higher).
Mousewheel scrolls very smoothly; it does not "click-scroll". That means you can forget about using it as a weapon selector in your games, unless you're a fan of "The Big Wheel" from The Price Is Right. Again, a matter of preference.
Looks Great, Works Great
- Pros: - Thin comfortable keys
- Comfort Curve design - Bluetooth - Long range - Media Controls work with WinAmp - Many extra keys to play around with - Touch sensitive F keys / Esc - DPad on the right can also function as a touchpad with full tap / tap + drag features! - Mouse is very comfortable, and the docking station is very convienent.
- Cons: - Windows key is put in the very bottom middle - Function key takes its place in lower left. A little useless?
- Uses FOUR AA Batteries. Why dont they just make a docking recharging station like they do for the mouse that it comes with, except it hooks up to the front? And when I hooked mine up it said the battery was 33% on the keyboard! These were NON-Rechargeable batteries! - Mouse comes with 1 AA Rechargeable battery, was not charged at all... - Mouse did not work with my IceMat (black with frosted glass layering), yet my Razer Copperhead works beautifully. - As with all wireless mice, the weight is a downside.
- Other Thoughts: Overall, for the person that wants to use this set in normal day to day work probably wont have any problems and will like it a lot, since it has many media functions. Will probably get even more use out of it if you are using it for a HTPC setup. I would only say NOT to get this if you do not like having the comfort curve design / thin keys. The polish on the keys is very smooth, not textured like most keyboards. The 8000 Desktop is supposed to be released soon, which is basically this same set but instead it has BACKLIT keys. Definately look forward to seeing how that works/looks.

Awesome HTPC keyboard
- Pros: Fantastic for HTPC use. Bluetooth means that a direct sight-line isnt needed
- Cons: No bluetooth WMC remotes yet. Not good for general computing. Trackpad/scroll bar is kind of flimsy
- Other Thoughts: Downright a fantastic keyboard for HTPC use. Very versatile. Picked up for 20 dollars at a garage sale!
Works great for HTPC
- Pros: Fantastic range: I never have problems connecting to my HTPC in my living room. Battery life: The same AA battery has been in the mouse for over a month, and it shows no signs of weakening.
- Cons: The keyboard has a weird look and shape, I would have preferred something more plain, but I get over it because I can sit on my couch and type.
- Other Thoughts: I used to own a wireless mouse & keyboard set that were not Bluetooth, and they did not work more than 4 feet from the reciever. This works from as far away as I can get (I don't have a huge house, so I'm no where near the 30-foot stated range.) I am very happy with this. The keyboard does not have flip-out feet on the back, so if you like your keyboard at an angle on your desk, you'll have to set it on something. I prefer this because it is thin and fits onto a shelf in my coffee table.
Works great for HTPC
- Pros: Small thin keyboard with built in mouse pad makes navigating from the sofa easy.
- Cons: I had some initial issues but isolated it to Windows 7 RC not agreeing with drivers. Reset to Vista and XP MCE and everything works great
- Other Thoughts: Wish it worked with Windows 7 RC
