4 out of 5 eggs120Hz Backlight Strobing

Pros: This screen can do 3D if that's your thing.

What it does best is 120Hz refresh rate and built in backlight strobing (think nvidia lightboost hack), via the 3D mode menu (Frame Sequential mode)

This makes it superb for 120fps, 120hz gaming with almost zero frame latency. This means you can clearly see movement and fast movements can be viewed accurately with no blur from the screen

Cons: Discontinued - No longer in production

Some screens have the issue where the display drops out (this is due to faulty displayport cables feeding the screen 3.3 volts from the GPU - a proper displayport spec conformant cable will fix this)

Other Thoughts: It's a shame that Samsung decided to discontinue this monitor. You'll either have to find a used one or locate some unused stock, or display model.

3 out of 5 eggsSo far so good, but....

Pros: Colors can be pretty good after a little calibration, and in 60hz mode the monitor is quite responsive already. The base is really heavy and the monitor doesn't wobble like my last samsung did because of this.

3d is decent on 60hz, but still just a gimmick that is really useless to a competitive gamer.

Cons: Where to start...

No real adjustments to the stand. The backlight bleed is horrendous out of the box, and there are black screen uniformity issues.

No MiniDP to DP cable included and no HDMI included.

Glossy screens aren't the best thing.

Other Thoughts: The fact that samsung only included a displayport to displayport cable with this monitor shows how ridiculously cheap they are. I can not name a single piece of equipment that uses full size display port connections. Everything that uses DP uses MiniDP. So include the cable and get an egg back samsung.

So for anyone keeping score the monitor loses an egg for the horrible accessory bundle and for the backlight bleed.

Most people buying a TN panel will be expecting that, and it can be largely corrected by turning the monitor's default backlight setting from 100% to a much more sane level like 40%.

Perhaps when I get my MiniDP to DP cable in the ability to actually use the monitor in 120hz will sway my review. $450 bucks and they couldn't include a few $5 cables. I can't believe how badly they cheaped out.

1 out of 5 eggsSamsung sucks now

Pros: It's a 120hz monitor. That's the only good thing about it.

Cons: You can only get that 120hz on the displayport input, I had to upgrade to a evga gtx 570 hd. Not long after a lot of small blue dots appeared on the screen. And at random moments the screen would turn black, for no reason. I've tried turning it on and off, unplugging the cables, nothing.

Other Thoughts: Gone back to using a Samsung EX2220 but only temporarily. Samsung's quality seems to have gone downhill recently, LG is starting to look good. I will not be buying any made by Samsung again.

4 out of 5 eggsMixed feelings

Pros: 1. Great looks
2. Great picture
3. 3D is awesome (when it works, see other thoughts)
4. Works in 3D with Playstation 3 seamlessly!

Cons: 1. PC setup is a mess. Looks like the monitor itself is great, but 3rd party software TriDef and its compatibility with video card drivers introduce a lot of inconsistencies.
2. Should I be mentioning tech support again?.. They have no clue how to fix this and "product specialists" are almost impossible to get to.
3. Glossy screen is very bad for 3D. May be one of the factors for eye strain - reflected image on top of frame sequential 3D is perceived as "out of this world" which gives brain troubles.
4. Minor: would love to see a dedicated button to turn 3D on/off. Existing 3D button shows menu and it takes several steps in the menu (with couple of seconds for mode switch between them) to actually turn it off.

Other Thoughts: This is my follow-up review. After 2 months of back and forth Samsung took the monitor for repair and fixed it. This is the second device, so I guess it's fair to submit a new review.

As others mentioned 3D is great. But it doesn't work out of the box. In my setup (HD 6770 + 12.1 drivers) it would always go for "split screen" mode for both HDMI and DP no matter what. And I always had to switch the monitor into 3D manually. Installing latest TriDef from their website enabled frame sequential on HDMI/60Hz in SW, but monitor wouldn't show it. And still no luck with DP. After a lot of googling rolled back AMD drivers to 11.5b and latest TriDef from Samsung site. With old drivers things started to work, but with some weirdness - HDMI now automatically switches to 3D, while DP requires manual switching (Sammy says it should be the other way around). 3D in HDMI is great, but 24Hz makes it choppy. With DP 3D is really smooth, but with a lot of cross talk.. So always needs tweaking.

5 out of 5 eggsGlossy but yes, 120 is amazing

Pros: 120hz
Includes TriDef Program
Includes 3D glasses
3D
Includes DisplayPort Cable

Cons: No DVI (not an issue for most ATI cards)
Glossy screen
No VESA mount
Cannot rotate monitor into portrait mode (minor con)

Other Thoughts: All I can say is wow. I play BF3 quite a bit and the smooth rendering is amazing. I’ve had this monitor for almost a week now and it would be hard to go back to 60hz. Just for testing, tried my old monitor with the same rig and it just looks choppy in comparison. (System is i5-2500k@3.8 2x5870 crossfire).

The first thing I noticed going back to the old monitor is that I kept overshooting my targets. I realized that I always had to slow my mouse movement to wait for the frames to settle before I shot. It is a huge difference.

3D: Well it looks amazing (really enjoyed DoW2 on it) but can only play about an hour in 3D due to eye strain. To be honest, the games' UI are not designed for 3D (not the monitor’s fault).

Colors seem great to me (better than my previous monitor) but I do not have a color calibrator to verify.

Glossy screen makes it impossible for me to use for work, but fine for home.

Did not see any edge light bleeding others have mentioned.

5 out of 5 eggsGood enough

Pros: Solid monitor
Solid aesthetics
Solid cost

Cons: Wish it was bigger
3d is nice but sometimes hard to distinguish if actually 3d

Other Thoughts: 120hz for this price is good enough, the 3d is a bonus.
Make sure you use display port if you want the 120hz

2 out of 5 eggsShoddy manufacturing process

Pros: Great compromise for the more expensive 27" ones out there
Good for gaming, very responsive
Colorful

Cons: Manufacturing flaws - transparent dark spots (about the size of a finger print) in both corners - about the clock and start button. Bought 2, same thing on both
Second monitor had white spot in lower left hand side of screen. Will be returning this one too. 3 times a charm, eh? Think I might be spending my money on a different product very soon.

Other Thoughts: Notes:

Haven't even got to use the 3D, as I need to find one that doesn't have a screen flaw first.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst experience with Samsung

Pros: Looks are goregous, nice 2D picture
Will submit another review when/if I get the device to work..

Cons: Ordered this monitor right after Black Friday hoping to spend almost a month off playing 3D games.
On the last day of my supposed-to-be "gaming vacation" (01/08) I have no more patience postponing this review.

1. Poor quality control
2. TV and Monitor glasses are not compatible
3. Horrible support!
4. Some visible bleeding on the edges.
5. One broken pixel :)
6. HDMI/DP only
7. Didn't have chance to try but manual says 120Hz full-HD 3D only works with DP which pretty much limits selection to AMD video cards

Other Thoughts: 1st unit came DOA, which by itself very disappointing indication of quality issues in high end products. NewEgg's RMA worked ok.
2nd unit works in 2D, but 3D never works. NewEgg offered another RMA for the whole package, but I decided to optimize (my fault) and seek help from Samsung.
Samsung support is incompetent and in many cases rude. Looks like noone there knows about existence of these products, but worse is that they don't think. Kept sending me to TV department, suggested random ideas (like use different cable). Finally got to talk with product specialist, who was able to at least listen and understand. He identified that glasses included were from TV, not monitor. Fine, I ordered a replacement for a different model. Lost a week, got another pair of the SAME model. Again hours on the phone with clueless support. Chat helped as they were able to just copy/paste my requests. It's already more than 5 weeks since the order and my ticket is still in "waiting to be shipped" state.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy

Pros: Good contrast, color, and clarity. Nice menu system.

Cons: It says this monitor is 120hz. It is only 120hz if you use the DisplayPort connection. I have a new Geforce GTX 570 with 2 DVI outputs and 1 HDMI output.

The monitor doesn't come with any sort of converter to DP from DVI. I bought a separate cable DVI->DP, still doesn't work.

I don't understand why the HDMI input can't function at 120hz. The Manual has a chart showing that only the DP works at 120hz. The advertisement specs DO NOT convey this information.

I was replacing a 120hz LCD with this LED-LCD. I'm very mad that they can advertise the monitor at 120hz and say it has HDMI/DP. It should say that the 120hz is only available through the DP.

WHO HAS A DP CONNECTION ANYWAY?
