Love This Thing
- Pros: I love this monitor. I had one for a year and just got another one. It's conspicuosly clear, bright and vibrant. This monitor can be tweaked/calibrated in many ways and to fine tolerances. Looking at photos one can feel as if the monitor isn't even there. The stand is rock solid and wont tip. It looks nicer in person than in photos.
- Cons: The menu buttons are flimsy (but remote makes up for it - you can calibrate with remote and not have to mess with bezel buttons).
- Other Thoughts: The opticlear is no more reflective than a TV - just keep lights from being directly behind. The clarity will make it hard to use anti-glare again. Don't be fooled into thinking the monitor isn't a fine intrument because of the TV tuner and speakers. Those things are just extras on a monitor that is worth any price - extras or not.
I Totally underestimated LCDs till I saw this panel
- Pros: Note: I came from an old17" Samsung CRT.
Wow..I just recieved this LCD and dang was I scared because I haven't seen this thing in person before . I heard all these stories about ghosting, dead pixels, backlight bleeding etc...boy was I wrong. I looked at all the monitors in various (small and large) consumer stores before I ordered this an wow what a difference. The colors, the brightness, the whites and blacks-- just about everything about this LCD is spectacular. The best thing about this monitor is that it's fast; I dont notice any ghosting playing games because the monitor is 6ms which is really really good for an S-IPS panel (most have 12ms and upwards). Even my brother who has a two grand 40" HDTV was jealous of my LCD.
People who are weary about the gloss should think otherwise. I don't even notice it unless the monitor is completely off.
- Cons: I havent looked at everything yet but I noticed at some extreme close angles theres some gold effect (hard to explain but imagine backlight bleeding but its a slight gold color). Its not bothersome because I only see it when the screen is black. This is mostly from the panel what I heard, being its an S-IPS.
Also, I haven't tried many games out but you may need to put V-sync on but that doesn't affect anything so it's nothing to worry about.
- Other Thoughts: This panel is S-IPS meaning it's the best of the best. The money you pay for is guaranteed to be a good investment. You can compare this monitor to a cheap, inexpensive TN panel and you'll see the difference in worth. You definitely get what you pay for (Considering it was double the cost when it was released).
This LCD is now out of production and its the last of its kind. There are no more good consumer S-IPS panels except for the really expensive Apple monitors or the Dell monitors that have a panel lottery (look it up if you want to learn more). This means that Newegg's got the last ones available so if you want the best 20" monitor out there, GET IT NOW!
Great Display
- Pros: Awesome display. The one I received is flawless, zero dead pixels, no back light bleed. This is the best looking LCD I've ever seen. Great colors, very crisp text, bright, good blacks, great viewing angles, not ghosting in games. This is all thanks to the beautiful AS-IPS panel NEC used which is far superior to the cheaper TN panels found in most LCD displays.
It replaced a 19" Sony G420S Trinitron CRT that I loved. I put this next to the CRT and the only thing that looked better on the CRT was the blacks, and not by much. Text is so much clearer on this LCD, it makes my CRT look blurry.
- Cons: I wish came in a 24".
I couldn't afford two of them.
- Other Thoughts: If you lock the audio output to the TV tuner, you can watch TV in a PIP window with sound. The only disadvantage is it outputs the TV sound all the time, so I just turn the volume all the way down when not using the TV.
It doesn't scale on the PC inputs but I found an acceptable solution for NVIDIA cards. The NVIDIA driver has a setting to preserve the aspect ratio, outputting 4:3 resolutions with black bars on the side. If you use a 4:3 resolution of 1400x1050, it matches the native vertical resolution of the monitor and the driver adds black bars to the sides without stretching the image. This looks great in old games that don't support widescreen properly.
