LED, SUPER ENERGY SAVING, IPS PANEL

The LG IPS224V-PN combines the wide viewing capabilities of In Plane Switching (IPS) technology with the superior picture quality of LED backlighting. So it is an advanced display that produces precise and vivid colors with spot on detail even from different viewing angles. Full HD is taken to new heights with exceptional contrast ratios and brightness levels that bring out subtle color differences as well as the deepest and the most difficult shades of black.

It also seeks to be an environmentally friendlier product earning the highest EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) Gold rating.

Consuming less power than the previous LCD models, LED technology also limits the amount of halogen or mercury used to manufacture each unit.

  • newegg IPS Panel The LG IPS224V-PN has a super viewing angle of 178 degree. It provides consistent color tone and response time throughout the screen, precise color matching with the original image in reality.
  • newegg LED Backlight Featuring the LED backlight technology, the LG IPS224V-PN provides increased brightness, enhanced color saturation with less power consumption, minimizes eye fatigue and is more eco-friendly to the environment containing no mercury. LED backlighting also reduces the number and overall size of components for an exceptionally thin monitor.
  • newegg Superior image quality The LG IPS224V-PN features Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, expressive 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 250 cd/m2 brightness for lifelike image.
  • newegg EPEAT Gold EPEAT is helping transform the marketplace for green computer products, and the LG IPS224V-PN is one of them which meet the required criteria.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect side monitor

Pros: Cheap, IPS, Slim and lightweight, Good colors, Great viewing angles.

Cons: Lame power brick and a super cheap stand. Both do the job though, so I can't complain.

Other Thoughts: Bought it as a third monitor to keep extra applications on screen. Doesn't have the response time I would want for serious gaming.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good

Pros: I'm using the monitor now as secondary display with my laptop - using the DSUB cable supplied, for primarily vieing text. The display is sharp enough and the colors and brightness out of the box are just fine. It's not too big, which is what I wanted. Wide viewing angles, the main reason why I wanted IPS. NO dead pixels and don't expect any to appear soon. The unit is very light. Has all the inputs: DVI, DSUB and HDMI. Low price I paid, especially for IPS.

Cons: As others have said, slightly wobbly stand. Only a DSUB (VGA) cable supplied, but not really a con for me. I wish it would pivot (landscape to portrait), but I realize I would have to pay a lot more for that feature.

Other Thoughts: IPS monitors are coming way down in price. But right after I bought this monitor, the price went up 25% -- BUT Newegg just announced a special "sale" on IPS monitors -- 10% off IPS monitors with a promo code! Really Newegg??

5 out of 5 eggsSpecial Monitor

Pros: I have the 224T version of this monitor and it is, to say the least, stunning to look at. The colors are intense and vivid without being garrish or overwhelming.

Perhaps most importantly, is the clarity and sharpness of this IPS Monitor. Black text is clear and sharp with no blurring and excellent detail down to very small font sizing.

And this view is not just my own, everyone who has seen this monitor uses these same exact terms to describe it: "Sharp", "clear", "vivid", "amazing", and "stunning".

Cons: If anything its a tad on the bright side. I had to turn down both the monitor's brightness and contrast controls, and the video card's brightness and saturation controls.

Other Thoughts: I got this monitor to replace an otherwise good Hanns-G monitor whose text had lost its sharpness and which had taken on a griany appearance. This monitor is worth every penny I paid. It is simply the best monitor I have ever owned.

4 out of 5 eggsPicture Great - Delay from sleep not so

Pros: Not a bad monitor for the price. I'd recommend it for the money, provided you can get over some of the relatively minor issues. HDMI nice to have for the money. HDMI Audio port an interesting option for some environments.

Cons: This monitor takes 2-3 times as long as my Samsung and Viewsonic displays to start from sleep. It is long enough to make you wonder if it is working (we are talking several seconds, not mins or anything) The Red power light is bright, you can turn it off, but then combined with the long-restart you would think the monitor was off. The stand wobbles easily (not a big problem, but might speak of build quality). Finally, I think they really cheaped out by not providing a DVI or a HDMI cable. I think they could keep their VGA cable at this point.

4 out of 5 eggsFantastic bargain IPS for multi-monitor rigs.

Pros: My cons list is a litany of issues, but most of them are actually pretty easy to cope with. In exchange, you get an eIPS (6-bit) display that, outside of the slight edge bleed, has excellent uniformity and is able to produce excellent, reasonably accurate color. Once calibrated, the IPS224V can reproduce fine detail in video very well. Very few monitors in this price range feature VESA mounting, but the IPS224V has 75mm mounting holes, making it a great choice for multi-monitor mounts. After experimenting with other brands, I'm pretty sure LG is as good as it gets for bargain eIPS.

Also, don't be put off by the 14ms stat, I found ghosting to be minimal and better still, input lag is comfortably low. In Bioshock Infinite I was able to do distance head shots relatively easily and consistently, and in MechWarrior Online, PPC fire was easy to line up.

Users interested in surround displays may actually find that a trio of smaller 21.5" panels like this one are more ideal than larger displays, at least in landscape, as larger displays may start to stretch past your periphery.

Finally, some people may find the trio of inputs and dedicated input switch button to be very useful.

Cons: Calibrated color gamut is just 65% of AdobeRGB1998 and 86.6% of sRGB. Minor edge backlight bleed can be distracting. Stock stand is pretty lousy and wobbly. Wall wart power brick. Only includes VGA cable. Power LED is *bright* and blinks aggressively in sleep mode; it can at least be disabled while the display is powered on, though. Displays will blank on an all-black image, which can be minorly irritating.

Other Thoughts: I picked up three of these for a triple-display setup (video editing and surround gaming) and for the most part I'm pretty happy. I'd've liked a thinner bezel to improve spacing, but the trio of inputs and *especially* the VESA mounting sealed the deal.

Given the price on these displays and their general performance, there's really no reason to buy TN panels anymore.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: - Price
- IPS screen - awesome viewing angles, bright colors
- Thin bezel

Cons: Only VGA cable included, screen is wobbling on a stand
Power supply with short cable and poorly designed (takes 3 holes in my power extension)
14ms GTG response time

Other Thoughts: has hdmi, dvi and vga ports, audio 3.5mm port will work with hdmi connection only

5 out of 5 eggsLG IPS224V-PN 21.5" Review

Pros: Although I don't use the monitor for anything too intensive, I do play a few video games and watch plenty of movies on it and have yet to have a problem. The quality is great although I've only used the HD input and have yet to use the VGA/DVI hook ups. Very little set up was required, as well, as I haven't strayed away from the original setting at all. Definitely a solid purchase.

Cons: Delivery left the box outside of my garage (250 feet from my front door) in the rain, luckily no damage occurred!
