5 out of 5 eggsExcellent touch screens

Pros: Purchased for a point of sale system they worked out of the box as expected I really was impressed that windows picked up drivers and the touch screen worked without anything to download windows 7 pro. Well constructed and very sturdy.

Cons: none

2 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor.. for 2 years ago

Pros: Inexpensive, easy to setup, looks good and gives basic touch capabilities. My first impression is that it is sturdy, and 24 out of 25 taps register properly. Good for Windows 7 or basic touch kiosk applications.

Cons: Its already dated looking compared to modern, Windows 8 compliant screens. The screen supports two touch, but its not very accurate for non-touch optimized applications and the bezel keeps you from completing some Windows 8 gestures easily. I had this monitor for less than 3 days and I had to return it for having a dead pixel which looked like a piece of dust you couldn't ever clean off the screen. I ended up spending some more money on the Acer T232HL which has a lot better, more modern features and it works 300% better.

Other Thoughts: If you can afford it or want to use it for Windows 8, spend the extra money on something like the Acer T232HL , or at least find a monitor that does not have a bezel, which causes problems with trying to complete some Windows 8 gestures.

5 out of 5 eggsNice, stylish monitor.

Pros: Newegg's login cookie expired while I was uploading the video for this review, so it lost my review.

Basically, this is a nice modern, attractively and uniquely styled monitor with a very nice display.

Cons: - Difficult to change the volume if you're using the built-in speakers (takes half a dozen key presses or more... there are no dedicated volume buttons).

- Difficult to use Windows 8's edge gestures for things like opening the charms bar because it's difficult to swipe from the very side of the monitor (this is true of any monitor with a bezel, so it's really more of a design problem with Windows 8 than a design issue with this monitor).

Other Thoughts: I tried uploading a video with my review, but Newegg's video uploading is broken, then the website timed out my login cookie and lost my entire review.

If you want to see the video I made demoing this monitor go to YouTube and search for "Planar PX2230MW Touchscreen Monitor (w/ Windows 8)".

5 out of 5 eggsXP users fear not!

Pros: Excellant image, contrast, and viewing angles.Extremely responsive optical touch...Yes! Even in XP!! Hands down best P.O.S.touch panel for the food industry I've seen.

If you run XP like large number of commercial systems do today, this screen works perfectly using this driver package found from Planar directly under PX2230MW Windows XP

Cons: I found none...Most touch panels cost twice as much as this one and only offer 15"-17" size and still have lousy pixel response and viewing angles. This panel is just awesome for $269

5 out of 5 eggsCompletes my PC

Pros: This is an outstanding monitor for the price! The touch is very responsive and works perfectly with Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows 8 Release Preview- no setup or drivers to install. It comes with a stylus and has both VGA and DVI. The full-HD has outstanding detail and clarity! The 5ms response time is perfect for gaming. Lastly, the screen is a hard plastic, not a matte, so it is very hard to scratch. With the various things I've used as a stylus, it still looks good as new!

Cons: It doesn't track two points simultaneously as well as a capacitive touch screen, but most people probably won't even notice the difference. It does well enough for pinch-to-zoom and what not. Also, I run mirrored monitors with this and my HDTV so I can watch movies, and the color/contrast looks slightly better on my TV than the touch screen. This is probably to be expected, and the Planar still looks better than most monitors I work with. Lastly, I wish it was brighter.

Other Thoughts: I'm probably just being too picky with the cons, the brightness is the only thing that ever bothers me (especially in Minecraft). I love this monitor, and I may buy a second one for college. The touch screen completes my gaming PC and my friends love it. One of them even went and bought the same model after playing with mine. In fact, I decided to buy mine after playing with the one my teacher bought for the classroom (same model). I guess it is viral, haha. I love using it with Photoshop, and it has allowed me to truly experience Windows 8. Buy this monitor, and I guarantee you will never look back.

4 out of 5 eggsTips...

Pros: Optical multi-touch, inexpensive

There are 'advantages' to optical touch screen technology; however, if a person is expecting the touch technology to act like a capacitive technology (i.e. iPhone), they could msis the benefits.

Optical screens can be brighter, because there is no layer to provide the touch on top of the screen. They are also more durable, as even a crack in the screen itself, doesn't impair the optical tracking of touch points.

They also are not limited to needing a human finger like capacitive technology. This allows for use of a stylus, any object, as well as the ability to wear gloves. So they are a great option for kids with messy fingers, a craftroom, or workshop where you have damp hands or gloves on.

Cons: Doesn't force users to fully setup the screen to work best for them. This is more of a general lack of information available, than a problem with the technology itself.

Other Thoughts: It is very important to take a moment and setup the monitor and Windows 7.

1) Touchscreen Calibration Tool in Windows 7

2) Learn the Windows 7 touch features. (Right Click, Gestures, Flicks, etc) There are some videos on the Windows 7 site or even YouTube.

3) Windows 7 is EXTREMELY customizeable, take advantage of this.

-Display - Change Text Size (This will make things larger)
*Use 'Custom' and Turn Off 'XP Style Scaling'

Window Color - Open Advanced Appearance
Change the Title Bar, and any other items
to a larger size (Makes Buttons easy to touch)

-Open any Folder - Make Icons Large
Hit the 'Alt' key to see the menu, and select Tools -
Folder Options - View Tab - Apply to Folders

If you want iPhone/Android experience also:

-Folder Options
Single-Click to open an item
Use check Boxes to Select Items.

2 out of 5 eggsVery Disappointing

Pros: Touch input works well. Optical touch screens don't require a physical 'tap' just to get almost to the screen.
Full HD

Cons: Accuracy is very bad, clicking radio buttons is an exercise in frustration.
VGA input is very flawed, vertical lines from two laptops using two cables. DVI shows no such distortion.
Horrible viewing angles in portrait mode, colors disappear at 25 degrees. Office lighting causes glare and very bad reflections in glass.

Other Thoughts: This was intended to demonstrate, on a small scale, how touch screens displays can work in a retail setting.
This product fails in every way, small viewing angle, low precision, and flawed input
I gave this two stars because in a dark enviorment in landscape the display is decent

3 out of 5 eggsCareful - Windows 7 only

Pros: good value for the size, multi-touch

Cons: Windows 7 only

Other Thoughts: I should have read the fine-print more carefully - was going to use this to replace an Elo on a Point of Sale system that is running XP
